CHAPTER 66

CHAPTER SIXTY- SIX

"Incoming!" A guard at the gates of the Lycan territory yelled as he saw an apparition approaching the gates.
His voice alerted the other guards until they all became alert.
"State your name and your business." A spear was poked at the apparition.
"I am Vanessa." She whimpered. She wore a cloak so it was hard for the men to see her face.
"Vanessa what!" the guard roared.
"I am the Luna's sister!" Vanessa took off the cloak like it would mean something.
"Never seen your face before."
"You don't know who I am?" Vanessa was a little vexed but she didn't care, all that was on her mind was getting into the territory to do what she needed to do.
"Wait here, we will get the Luna for you." The guard replied, ignoring her question.
Vanessa had ventured to the Lycan territory as Nancy wanted her to. But Avyanna was unaware of this. In fact, to Avyanna, Vanessa was harmless and pitiful.
In no time, Avyanna was strutting towards the gates to usher Vanessa in.
At first sight, Avyanna was happy to see Vanessa. She was happy to know that she was not dead, Avyanna tried to talk to Vanessa, but she seemed not to be interested.
“Where were you when the war started? I was worried that you got killed or something.” Avyanna asked, she only wanted to know if she was captured or not and wanted the information, so she could also trace the attack. She would not be able to know who they were without appropriate information.
“How are you feeling Vanessa? are you okay? where were you when the war started? I asked the guards to search for you, even before we left the kingdom, but we could not find you. It was heartbreaking for me to have left without you, Vanessa.“ Avyanna spoke to Vanessa tenderly. She felt her sympathy would be taken into consideration, but instead, Vanessa got angry over the question.
As Vanessa got angry, she realized that she needed to play it safe so that she would not be discovered as a spy, so then began her game of pretense and deception.
"I ... I woke up and found myself alone in the kingdom. Everyone had left me." Vanessa sobbed.
"Oh my, Vanessa I am so sorry." Avyanna moved closer to console Vanessa, but Vanessa used to opportunity to further prick Avy's conscience.
"Don't pretend to care about me. You never cared about my whereabouts. If I wasn't a good tracker, I probably wouldn't have traced the scent of the exodus and found this territory."
"Aw, Vanessa, don't be like that. I care about you. I really do. I love you like a sister." Avyanna forced a hug on the weeping Vanessa.
Vanessa's heart leaped for joy because her plan to emotionally get to Avyanna was working.
"I want to rest my head," Vanessa said. Avyanna understood her, she did not expect anything less than what Vanessa had done.
Avyanna was going to pay attention to Vanessa’s needs and wants because she felt that she failed Vanessa.
Avyanna continued to talk to her, she told Vanessa about the do's and don'ts in the Lycan territory, but Vanessa did not say a word back to Avyanna.
Avyanna was not ready to hurt Vanessa some more, so she allowed her inside the territory of the Lycans instantly. Avyanna stood there for a while and wondered what happened to Vanessa.
***
The night came and Avyanna was cooped up in her room, feeling the pressure of her world coming down on her.
Then she heard a knock on the door.
"Who is it?" She asked.
"Baron."
Avyanna hesitated before she said, "Come in."
Baron walked into the room and shut the door behind him.
"I can't sleep Baron, maybe you want to leave me to rest for abit?" Avyanna said, even though she craved nothing more than Baron's presence.
"Let's take this to my room then shall we?" He took her hand and guided her to his room.
There she couldn't say a word for the first five minutes. She just spent it staring at Baron.
Avyanna did not talk to Baron, because was running through her mind, she was not happy with how the events of things happened.
“Can you sit down Avyanna?” Baron said to her. She did not hear him, because her mind was occupied, and she felt lonely, betrayed, exhausted, and weak.
“Sit with me, let us talk, I know you are tired, probably exhausted, but you need to be strong, you need to stand and fight against all odds. That’s what Alphas do; we lead, we fight, we protect.“ Baron hated to see his mate in the way she was, he was not going to have her think about everything that had happened all by herself, he was ready to stand for her. Avyanna on the other hand was exhausted, she allowed herself to be disturbed by the events, she was not a weak alpha, but this time around, she could not do it alone.
“Baron I have tried all I can to fix, fight and build for my kingdom, Wales. But everything doesn’t just fit, the world is coming down on me and ...“ Avyanna lamented then paused to take a breather. She just wanted her kingdom to be a whole. She knew that if anything made it impossible for her and her people to agree, then wars they did not expect, battles she did not plan to fight would be brought to her doorstep.
“Avyanna, you are a great wolf, I have seen what you have done with the kingdom. I know you want to know the creatures behind your men’s attack, I know. But if I am being honest with you, that is not a priority now, you need to let them heal, they should be prepared and ready for any attack, if you need me or my men, we will be here.” Baron’s heart sunk, he could see Avyanna worried, he wished she would change the subject matter, for that had been her place to dwell for too long.
“Okay, what you have said is right, I would seek to make a routine for my people, especially for the days we would be in the Lycan territory. Thank you, Baron, you have taken away my anxiety on that matter, I can reason about other things.” Avyanna replied mildly, she stood up from where she sat, and she talked about how she was worried that women were not allowed to rule in peace, and how they struggled to remain in power. Avyanna talked about the opposition, and hatred female masters went through. Avyanna moved from the end of one wall to another, she continued to wonder about the mystery behind it.
“The craziest and annoying part about this, Baron is that some women do not even want to rule. They do not want to be in charge of such a responsibility, so they think the ones who then choose to be a part of it only want it for selfish reasons."
Baron was silent, yet paying rapt attention.
"Why are women so neglected? and why do I feel so alone in all of this? I know it makes no sense that I would feel this way because I had the best of parents, and I had a love one time, probably did not work well for me because we were not mates. I have had everything I wanted, riches, fame, name it, but yet I feel a void, I feel empty, I feel something has always been missing. Then to think of how Ericson died, makes me feel the Wales Kingdom has an enemy, an enemy that hates Ericson so much to kill him, and want to kill his people. I know he did not really care about me, he barely paid attention to my heart, he changed, and he was not concerned about anything that involved me, but that doesn’t mean, I would rejoice over his death. I wonder who killed him, and I wonder why, for what reason.” Avyanna continued to move in circles, she held the chairs, left them, she went for a book that she tossed side to side, Baron was not sure of which of the complaints he was to reply, he thought about it for a while, before he replied to Avyanna, he was not going to say a word about Ericson’s death, that was a touchy subject, plus remember how he wanted the whole depressed talk to end, this was his cue, he walked over to where Avyanna stood, he held her hand and spoke to her.
“Avyanna look at me, I want to be here for you, it hurts to hear you say you are alone. I have practically waited for you to say you would be my mate I want to love you, I want to take care of you, I want to love you, I want to fight your troubles with you, I want to know the reason for your smile, the reason for your happiness, I want to be here, all for you, never to leave you, never to back out. let me in Avyanna, let me take care of you." Baron looked into Avyanna’s eyes. They loved each other, it was obvious, but Avyanna was not sure if to go in or not, she did not want to make a mistake, just like she did before, but her heart had surrendered to him already.
Baron saw she was encapsulated by the mate talk, he held her chin up and kissed her. He had his hands wrapped around her waist, and his right hand went behind her head, Avyanna responded to his kiss, and she held him tighter with both of her hands, she needed that kiss, but she never knew she did. They paused and looked at their faces.
"Baron there's something else I want to tell you."
"What is it?"
"My wolf is back although it's not present."
"Are you serious?"
"Yes. It came out during the war and I felt so powerful but I didn't transform completely to Katie."
"What could that possibly mean?"
"I don't know, I feel like the Moon Goddess is trying to send me a message or a cue on what is about to happen."
"Does this mean you can sense that we share something together."
"Yes of course but it's not really that strong like how it should be."
"It's better than nothing.
"Baron, I am tired of the war, I don't know who is fighting against me but I don't want to lose anyone dear to me again. I just want a peaceful life."
“Let me take care of you Avyanna, let me love you” Baron carried Avyanna off the floor as he hugged her. He was ready to shut out all the noise and distraction she felt, he was ready to make her feel loved, all he waited for, all her wanted, was that she gave her consent, all he waited for was that she also agreed to his love, and loved him too.
Baron might have appeared to be one of the deadliest wolves, but yet he had a child in him, a child that wanted to be nurtured, a child that was also in search of care, a child that wanted to be appreciated. He knew he and Avyanna had a lot in common, but she had refused to see it, she had refused to see that they were the only force in the whole universe that could protect them from all of the terror and wickedness, all he needed was her approval, he was willing and ready to love her as the whole universe loved the Moon Goddess.
