CHAPTER 8

CHAPTER EIGHT
The tension in the room rose gradually as Avy's gaze at Nancy intensified.
"I didn't mean to take your position. I just came into the room and I didn't know where to sit." Nancy pleaded meekly before she zoomed to cower behind Eric.
Omegas were not permitted to attend the Meeting of the Royalties. It was an abomination for an Omega to do so; their duty was to serve around the pack house, without having a say in the decision making process, and they were properly fed and taken care of.
"Avy please take it easy on her, It is my fault, I brought her into the room when the meeting did not start yet. I am going to send her out once the meeting commences." Alpha Ericson said, his right arm up and shielding Nancy, from Avy's intense stare.
Avyanna disliked Nancy to an extent of gladly ripping Nancy's head off, if she was offered a chance to. In fact, Avy fantasized about ripping Nancy's head off and feeding on her flesh, while she stood and gazed upon Nancy and her Husband behave so disgraceful.
In the past life where Avy lost her life to Nancy, it was always Nancy taking all the pity and empathy from the pack while Avyanna would mind her business and not interfere in any affairs that involved the Omega. The pack perceived Luna to be a discourteous Queen, and the Omega was seen as the polite and well-mannered lady.
Avyanna swore to herself that she would not let what happened in the past to repeat itself; she was ready to give the people what they wanted. She subtly adjusted her stance in pride as she stood in front of Nancy, glanced at her husband, then turned to see stares from everyone in the room who were waiting for her to speak.
"No. I do not want Nancy to leave the room, she will attend the meeting with us." Avyanna spoke with a smile, maintaining the smile as she turned to look at her husband and Nancy. Ericson eyes widened in bewilderment because his wife did the opposite of what she was capable of doing in such a situation.
"Please my Queen, I will leave. I do not want to cause any trouble, I am so sorry for coming in here in the first place." Nancy pleaded as she fell on her knees again.
"It's okay Nancy, you haven't done anything wrong. Rise to you feet." Avyanna offered her hand to Nancy to aid her in standing up.
Avyanna could see the shock in Eric's eyes and Nancy being dumbfounded as she slowly placed her hands on Avyanna's and used it as a support to stand up from the ground.
"I want you to go and sit where you sat before I walked into this room." Avyanna said, maintaining the smile and pointing towards the seat. Mumurs and silent whispers engulfed the room.
"My Luna, nobody would dare take your seat among the Royalties." Jonathan the Zeta argued.
Avyanna raised her hand in the air, a sign to inform everyone to be silent. " There will be no need for any sort of confusion here. Nancy is my husband's mate and it is good for her to witness how things are done here since she will be by Alpha Ericson's side in the long run. I will take the other seat at the end of the table." She volleyed a stern glance from her husband to his mate before walking away to take the new seat.
Ericson persuaded Nancy to take the seat beside him. There was nothing to be afraid of, He was always in charge of everything in the pack house as the Alpha.
"Shall we begin the meeting?" Ericson said, and everyone in the room nodded their head in affirmation.
"Very well then," he cleared his throat before he began, "Fortunately for the pack, all the topics we discussed in the last meeting were treated right. Today we will be discussing new issues that will benefit members of the pack, if there are things anyone has in mind, feel free to say it. The floor is open for different contributions and opinions."
The murmur in the crowd that erupted was not loud enough to disrupt the peace. It was the silent whispers of the pack members forming a fog of sound that helped ideas generate effortlessly.
A few seconds after Eric spoke, Johnathan voiced out a suggestion, "I suggest that we should monitor movements outside the pack house and a roll call should be carried out weekly or monthly to make sure that everyone is complete in the pack house. With the increase in population, we barely have an idea of who is missing or not." The silence of the room was restored while he spoke. His suggestion incited another.
"I agree with that as well, we don't have enough information on how the wolf hunters attack, niether do we know why the rogues are laying low for now, it's better we take precautions before any bad thing happens." Will said, and the crowd roared in agreement
"Noted. I will look into that to make sure everything is done properly. Any other contributions?" Ericson looked around the room, waiting patiently for the Royalties. The meeting wasn't as lively as the preceding meetings; in the previous meetings, the pack roared louder and more suggestions and opinions were given.
Everyone in the room was aware of what caused the shift in liveliness, it was simply because an Omega sat at the Luna's seat. There were unsiad words of disagreement mixed in the murmurs but no-one could challenge the Alpha as he was the strongest in the pack.
Nancy slowly raised her hands in the air and all eyes were focused on her. Her hands trembled and when Ericson noticed how uneasy she was, he gently placed his hands on her shoulder to soothe her.
Avyanna shook her head and rolled her eyes in disbelief to the show Nancy was putting on.
"You can speak now Nancy." Ericson assured her.
"I know that I am not supposed to be here, I beg your forgiveness. I have been insolent and that is impossible to forgive." Nancy began.
"It's okay, you did it ignorantly and your stay here has been supported by both the Alpha and the Luna, so there is nothing to worry about." Vanessa intervened, looking at Avyanna, and Ericson, and back to Avyanna to confirm her statement.
"I was thinking that more attention should be given to the Omegas." The room went silent as Nancy began, everyone wanted to hear what she had to say, "Most of the time, after completing our daily task, we retire very late and we don't get enough time to check up on each other because we are already tired and exhausted. A lot of us are emaciated due to malnutrition and lack of sleep."
"Isn't that your duty as an Omega? You're meant to serve while we provide your needs and fight your wars!" Nathan one of the Royalties said.
"It doesn't matter, she is airing her opinion like we are all allowed to do." Ericson intervened.
"She is not even meant to be here, sitting down where the Luna is supposed to be sitting. She is even at ease and uttering nonsense." Vincent said.
"Mind your tongue Vincent!" Vanessa warned her younger brother. Ericson gave his brother a cold stare which made him shut his mouth.
"Nancy makes a valid point." Avyanna spoke for the first time since the meeting started. All eyes turned to her as everyone was shocked at her response. "In order to solve this little misunderstanding between us, henceforth Nancy would attend the meeting of the Royalties as a representative of the Omegas."
"What? She is not even part of us, we could choose another respresentative please." Vincent cried out. He was the only one saying his mind because everyone in the room feared Alpha Ericson and would not dare utter a word that would displease him.
"Vincent, one more word from you and you will leave this room!" Ericson warned.
"I'm sorry if I have said something wrong, please forgive me." Nancy pleaded.
"Our pack is different, you haven't said anything wrong. You are the Alpha's mate, it is your duty to bring contributions that will favour him and the pack." Avyanna said.
The Royalties kept wondering why Avyanna was in support of Nancy. Nancy herself was confused.
"Henceforth, Nancy will be representing the Omegas in the meeting of the Royalties." Alpha Ericson concluded the meeting.
One by one, the Royalties left the room save for Ericson, Nancy and Avyanna.
Avyanna finally stood up to leave, then took a bow before her husband.
"Avy, can I speak to you now?" Ericson asked, the tone of his voice low.
"I'm sorry, I have things to do right now besides your Omega needs you, she is still too weak to stay on her own." With that, Avyanna walked out of the room with a heavy heart.
Avy felt she had won a battle with herself because of the way she pretended to remained unfazed despite her husband choosing the Omega over her. She felt victorious, but deep down, she was hurt.
She felt so hurt, she nursed a sleepless night of tears without knowing if the morning would come with a reason to smile.
