CHAPTER 37

CHAPTER THIRTY-SEVEN
“Are you okay Avy?” Gina called out from the other end of the door, “I heard a faint noise coming from this direction, so I came to check up on you. Is everything okay?” She knocked quietly again.
Baron remained calm and shook his head subtly as he stared at Avyanna, signaling her not to give up his presence in the room.
“Erm… “Avyanna said rigidly, “I … I am totally fine. I just dropped my phone mistakenly.” She lied, looking at Baron who just slowly nodded his head gently in her support.
“Well, do you need my help?” Gina asked, twisting the locks as if she wanted to open the door gently and poke her head into the room.
“No! I am totally fine. Do not come in please.” Avyanna said immediately in fright, stopping Gina from entering the room.
"Are you really sure you're okay?"
"Yes I am fine. Thanks for the concern."
“Okay. If you need my help I am just a few rooms away, okay?”
“Totally.” Avyanna replied. A few seconds later, she heard the receding footsteps of Gina, walking further away from the room as the sound of her footsteps faded away until it was no more. The absence of the sound of her feet walking the silent corridor was the proof that they needed to be assured that Gina was no longer in close proximity and could not hear what they said.
Avyanna even wondered if Gina had heard Baron’s voice in the room before she knocked. Even if she did, would it be really bad? That day she was talking with Gina about how she was attracted to him, would seeing them together really change things?
Avyanna looked at Baron, searching his eyes for an answer but he said nothing. He acted like nothing happened but deep down, he wasn’t comfortable with his sister knowing that he was in Avyanna's room just on her first day at the territory.
They stared at each other briefly in uncomfortable silence before she spoke, "You think she knows?"
"Knowing my sister, she probably suspects I'm here. You were so obvious." Baron smirked.
"Are you mad at me?" Avyanna asked sternly. She wasn't sure how to react in such a situation.
"No, I just don't care." His grin grew wider.
"Then why did you act like you didn't want ... Know what never mind." She pursed her lips.
Another silence ensued, but this time it was Baron that broke the silence, "Everyone here is aware that anyone that I bring into my home will be protected by me, no matter what."
"So to you, I am just some weak and helpless damsel you have to have to protect?" Avy protested in slight disgust at his sentence. "I am just here for you to own?" She began doubting her decision to kiss him. She wanted to be away from him but not yet, she wanted to hear him speak as much as she secretly wanted his presence.
"That's not what I mean. You're so touchy." He giggled with a vibrating bass tone. It was one of the few times he giggled genuinely and as Avy looked at him, she wasn't sure how to feel. Maybe, just maybe, she actually misunderstood him.
"Then what do you mean, because I don't need saving. I ..." Avy began.
"Shh. I mean that no form of ill treatment will come your way from the members of the pack, not even my sister." He stared into her eyes until it made a lot of sense to her.
She couldn't even say a word in response. For a moment she felt ... Safe; contrary to the way she felt with Ericson. Gosh, the mere thought of the name almost ruined the moment she was having with the Lycan Alpha.
As they stared longingly at each other, Baron could no more control his urge to kiss her one more time. He let himself get taken over by his urges and he rammed his lips into hers once she gave him that inviting look.
She was taken by surprise and she instantly enjoyed it. She grabbed his shoulders as her mouth ravaged his and she felt the thick hard sculpture he had for a body. She felt herself want him the more she kissed, and the more what she was doing felt wrong, the better she enjoyed it.
Baron's urges almost caused him to lose it all completely and have true carbal knowledge of the Luna so he stopped himself. He withdrew himself from the kiss gently and stroked her cheeks.
"I will protect you." He said with a serious face.
"Even if it's from Us." Roy continued.
"Not now, Roy. I'm in the middle of something." Baron pushed Roy away.
"You know you need to tell her the truth." Roy resurfaced again.
"I will but I don't think this is the right time for that." Baron argued with his wolf.
"Okay." Avyanna smiled, being assured and feeling much better that she was after the weird dream. She wondered why she would dream of rogues and especially, who exactly was the large wolf haunting her nightmares.
After a few minutes, she said, "I think I'm feeling sleepy again." She didn't want Baron to leave the room, but she couldn't bring herself to say it; not then, not ever.
"Okay then." Even though she didn't want him to leave, she was indeed feeling sleepy. She was so sleepy, once her head hit the pillow, she fell asleep.
Baron stroked her hair and watched her fall asleep, until the next morning; when she woke up and didn't see him anywhere.
By morning, the Luna woke up alone in bed, in almost nothing but her thin short night gown and the thoughts of the previous night.
She had a huge smile pasted on her face as she stretched and yawned. Her nightmare was a distant memory and all she could think of was the kiss she shared with Baron.
Avyanna went to the shower and cleaned up carefully. She made sure that her mani and pedi were on point. She didn't even mind making her nails beautiful, because she knew that she was almost coming to terms with the fact that she might not change to Katie any time soon. She knew she had to smell good and be really refreshed because she was meeting the Lycan Alpha again.
After Avyanna emerged from the shower, a maid delivered her breakfast and she munched her meal in delight, savoring every taste. Yes, she was that upbeat that morning.
She then stayed in her room for a few hours, preparing some documents and a talk about the main purpose of her visit: her divorce with her husband, need for women to lead and the separation of her pack from that of her husband's. Avyanna carried the documents and went to his office that Gina had shown her the day earlier.
Upon entering, she saw Baron's Beta Steve who was already walking out with a forced smile on his face.
"Morning. Have a seat." Baron was abnormally stern to her and it automatically made the huge smile on her face sizzle out. She nervously rolled her eyes across his office as she sat gently on the chair.
Avyanna just cleared her throat and greeted him back, "Morning." Then she thought that Baron might be acting such stern way because Steve was still in close proximity, so she waited until Steve's footsteps could be heard no more.
She looked up happily again, trying to incite a conversation with him, but it didn't work. He just gave the same stern stare and asked, "Are those the documents?"
"Yes." She handed it over to him, and returned her straight serious face.
All through the while that Baron only looked at the files, he avoided Avyanna's gaze and focused totally on the files she presented. He would ask a question every now and then, but it was totally related to work and not about what they shared. Not what Avyanna was eager to talk about.
When Avyanna was done, she left the office with a lot of thoughts going through her mind. She felt like she had just been played and she had fallen into the grip of another man who was worse than her soon to be ex- husband. They are always very cool at first.' she scoffed to herself.
Avyanna walked through the very busy territory that had almost every Lycan busy with preparations for her welcoming feast. She couldn't even get the attention of Gina or Rania, besides she couldn't discuss what had happened between her and the Lycan Alpha to anyone, so she just went back to her room, sad and downcasted.
Avyanna collapsed on the bed in mental exhaustion. Rania had dropped a note on her pillow to inform her that her welcoming Feast would be in the evening.
When it was almost time for the party, she summoned enough strength to leave her bed. She would have been eager of what she would wear for the party if the Lycan Alpha was atleast talking to her especially after what they shared with each other last night. If she had an option, she would have cancelled the Feast. The last thing Avyanna wanted was to be in the midst of people.
Avyanna had not decided on her outfit for the welcoming Feast because it wasn't something she had thought of before coming to the Lycan territory but as she opened her wardrobe, she met a great surprise.
