CHAPTER 35

CHAPTER THIRTY FIVE
The only thing stronger than the memory of her nightmare was Baron's grip on her soft chest.
She couldn't wrap her mind around what was happening, but she slowly came to the realization. She could feel him warmly breathing down on her neck as his hand clutched her. His hands were just below her breasts but it seemed like it was really on her skin because of the thin nature of the nightie she wore.
The silky negligee was so thin, Avyanna felt naked. Despite her feeling, she didn't feel repulsed by Baron. She allowed a moment to entertain his grip, but then it occurred to her that he wasn't supposed to be there. He was supposed to be in his room. Baron was shirtless and always fond of flexing his muscles unconsciously.
Had he been sleeping beside her all along? Was he somehow the cause of her dream? Or was he watching her through a camera to know when to run to her safety; such questions plagued Avyanna's mind before she could bring herself to ask him, "What are you doing here?" She sounded faint and she was still catching her breath, in recovery of the nightmare.
"Isn't it obvious? I'm here to help you." He still gripped her and held her very close to him, their bodies touched. His abs rippled with muscles, and his perfectly sculpted chest was an attraction to Avyanna. She immediately casted her gaze away lest she lusted for the Lycan Alpha.
"Help?" Avyanna thought to herself. "Help me with what? For what?" She sounded confused but didn't shrug away from his grip. Matter of fact, she secretly enjoyed it.
His breath gave her warmth, his hard hairy body gave her solace, his deep voice speaking in the semi darkness sent vibrations through her body that aroused her, his scent engulfed her sense of smell. She was so immersed in the presence of the lycan king, she was more comfortable than she would have been.
"You screamed. No one screams that way when they are safe with me, unless it's a dream or something mental happening to them." Baron strangely pacified her as he kept on holding her closer to himself.
"I had a nightmare. I didn't mean to shout and disrupt the peace." Avy whispered.
"What was your nightmare about?" Baron asked like he was going to get into her nightmare and save her. Like it was something physical he had control over.
Avyanna didn't know how to feel about this. "It's okay, you can let go of me now. I don't need saving, besides you're not saving me, you're just clutching my breasts."
Baron was not the least bit embarrassed, he just dashed a smooth smile at her as he withdrew his hands from her chest. "If I didn't hold you that tight, you would have fallen from the bed. Who knows what else would have happened after that?" He smirked. "What did you dream about?"
"Ah just forget it." She scoffed silently, for she didn't know how to disclose the disturbing nightmare to Baron. "You wouldn't want to listen because..."
"Now, why would you think that?"
"Yeah. Nevermind." She buried her face in her palms as if to rub her eyes.
"Okay then. I understand that you would like to keep things private." He got up and moved towards the door, about to leave the room. Avyanna wasn't sure she wanted him to leave anymore as she looked up and saw him holding the lock of the door. Baron didn't want to leave the room. He didn't even plan to. He just closed the ajar door and walked back to Avyanna and lay beside her.
"What are you doing?" Avyanna asked, surprised by the change in his action. She was so sure he was about to leave her but no, there he was lying beside her with a huge shameless grin on his face. He lay with his face up and used his interlocked fingers as a pillow.
"I'm neverminding, until you decide to tell me your dream. If you're not, you might as well get to sleep because you're safe now." He was almost stern, if not of the permanent grin on his face that lightened the atmosphere.
He lay there and she sat up on the bed. She was slightly uncomfortable with him just laying there not doing anything, she would have even preferred it if he was gripping her like before. This led to an uncomfortable silence. They could hear each others thumping heart beats, and feel the heat that was caused by their heavy breaths. Even though they didn't feel each other, there was an undeniable tension that just made them want each other so bad, but they were pros at controlling themselves whenever it came to that. Baron was a pro but, he was almost losing himself. How much longer could he control himself from giving in to the urge to have her.
"Do you have nightmares often?" He asked, breaking the silence.
"I ... I ... I'm not sure." Avyanna thought so hard before she answered. She thought about her past life and how the thought of it always felt like a very real nightmare. Before that, she rarely had bad dreams, but she did have them; they were just not often. After she was saved by the moon goddess, she wasn't sure about anything anymore, especially not what happened when she slept.
"Not sure, like you think your life is a nightmare?" Baron asked sarcastically, but he ended up saying what was on her mind; making her feel seen.
"Yes." Her emotional wall was almost penetrated. "I ..." She thought about telling him about her past life but she couldn't bring herself to do it. "I ..." She didn't want to risk anyone knowing, besides who would even believe her except Gina of which she was still suprised about. That was the only person that could understand what she was facing at the moment.
Baron elevated himself from his lying position and sat up to stare into her eyes as she struggled to find her words. He seemingly moved closer as his wolf urged.
Through the soothing darkness in the room, she found his glowing eyes and stared into them as he did same.
"It sounded like you were screaming for help in your nightmare." Baron said.
"Was I really that loud?" She gasped when he said what she was doing in her dream.
"Why do you think I came to help? Now I'm not leaving until I'm sure you're safe." He didn't take his eyes off her, neither did she. They just let the magnetic pull of lechery do its work and it did a perfect one.
Baron boldly took his fingers to her cheeks and caressed her lips with his thumb, until it slightly opened. Avyanna longed for his touch some more as she stared at his rock solid physique that made him look like the perfect mannequin. Every second his heart beat, he leaned closer to her face, going for her lips.
"This is not right." She whispered to his hearing.
"Probably not." He whispered back but they still pulled closer.
"I told you I wanted things to be formal between us."
"Recall that I also told you I have a liking for you and from what I am seeing here, the feeling is mutual."
"Baron you need to understand that I am not just ready for this right now in my life."
"Why? If I may ask. Enlighten me." Baron could not wait any longer as a low growl escaped his lips.
Their lips brushed gently against each other when it met. He passionately aroused her lips with his, before he slid his lower lips into mouth, then his tongue. The kiss was slow and titillating, until his primal instincts kicked in. He lost himself to the feeling of pleasure, and so did she.
He grabbed her waist; of course, the thin nightie that she wore made it seem like he grabbed her naked body, and then he pulled her closer to himself. She ran her fingers through his nape as she introduced her tongue into his mouth.
Baron found himself at the brink of getting past the kiss, to get into something more physical, and that was the same moment that Avyanna's wolf resurfaced.
"I think I need more time." Katie said weakly, almost inaudibly.
"Katie?" She withdrew from the kiss and stared at nothingness in shock. "What was that? Talk to me please." She was almost in tears.
"What is it?" Baron asked in concern.
"I just sensed her?" She said, wide-eyed.
"Who?" He asked like he knew who. Actually, it was obvious. He just didn't know why her wolf would need to be sensed.
"My wolf, Katie." Avyanna said happily.
"Then we should continue from where we stopped because I think of it as a good news."
Just as Avy was about to revel in the joy of hearing Katie speak to her, her phone rang.
When she looked at the caller ID and confirmed who the caller was, it all started making a lot of sense.
The nightmare, Katie, the kiss, ... all of it.
