CHAPTER 29

CHAPTER TWENTY NINE

Avyanna shook her head in disbelief at Nancy's display of madness.
"What did you do!" Ericson yelled at Avyanna.
A throng gathered to watch the drama unfold. A bloodied Omega lay in the arms of the Alpha of the pack. The gathering was on the verge of believing that the Omega's state was caused by the Luna. Even as Ericson kept asking, "Why did you do this to Nancy!?"
"I did nothing to her, but I wish I did." Avyanna answered calmly, looking pitilessly at Nancy.
"My Alpha." Nancy coughed up blood as she sought the manipulated attention of Ericson. "I am sorry. I didn't mean to disrespect my Luna. I ... I am so sorry." She cried.
Ericson turned and thundered again, "I thought we had an unspoken understanding. Why would you lay your hands on her! Are you that jealous Avyanna?"
Avyanna scoffed at his words and diverted her gaze to the bleeding Omega. Avyanna crossed her arms and said to herself, "this Omega is insane." Avyanna was so done with being angry the more she looked at Nancy, fake tears and wails that sought attention. She just stood calmly and partook in the drama, knowing fully well that the Omega's stupidity was her vindication.
"I said I didn't lay my hands on her. My blood is not on her and her blood is not on my person, so how is it possible that I wounded her?" Avyanna remained ever calm. She didn't bat an eyelid in concern or pity for the Omega or her mate that was so blinded by the manipulative Omega.
"The Omega says otherwise." Ericson argued.
"Of course you would side with her." Avyanna rolled her eyes backwards and heaved.
"Do you have nothing to say?!" Ericson asked still holding Nancy up.
"What am I supposed to say?" She almost lost composure.
"At least show some pity for her." He said, sounding like he was ordering Avyanna.
"I am telling you. Your crazy mistress did this to herself!" Avyanna was so disappointed in Ericson. Not angry, disappointed. She thought that after all the years that they had spent together, he would at least offer up a listening ear to her, even as the world seemed to be against her. She was already getting used to his act of stupidity so she didn't bother herself in sulking on it.
"She says that you ..." Ericson began.
"I'm so sorry. I didn't mean to." Nancy kept crying and coughing up blood.
"Look at the way she is!" Ericson said. The crowd of the pack members that gathered started feeling pity for Nancy and gradually they started to send suspicious stares at Avyanna, thinking that she was responsible for the Omega's demise.
"I am a Luna; if I wanted to do this to your mistress, trust me she wouldn't survive it." Avyanna argued.
"So that is your intention!" Ericson growled, his eyes turned into a piercing yellow making Avyanna confused. She thought that his wolf would never show itself to hurt her but it did.
"I don't want to die. Please." Nancy cried harder.
"I am speaking from a logical point of view. There is a truth in what I am trying to say. If only you were not so blinded by her manipulation." Avyanna scoffed and looked away scornfully.
"She is hurting, we need to take her to see the pack Doctor. It usually takes days for an Omega to heal from such injuries." Rita suggested, moving briskly to where Nancy lay helplessly.
"We need to do so immediately." Jonathan said. He pointed at two men and said to them, "Hey, the both of you, come and take her to the Doctor to tend to her wounds."
The men rushed to pick her up. Just as they were about to hoist her up, her wounds slowly started healing, but not completely.
"The Omega is healing." A pack member pointed at Nancy's obvious healing injuries but Ericson protested.
He said, "I don't care! Take her to the doctor now!"
The men took a crying Nancy out of the scene. As they carried her away, Nancy sent a concealed and brief smirk at Avyanna. She smiled because her plans had worked but Avyanna was not bothered about it at all; she just shook her head in further disappointment because Ericson didn't even notice it. He just kept on guilt-tripping her for something that she did not do.
Avyanna was suprised that the Omega's wound was healing so fast. Omegas never had a speedy healing because they were the weakest. "What could be happening?"
"Rita." Ericson called out.
"Yes Alpha." Rita replied and genuflected subtly before the Alpha.
"You are in charge of the kitchen so I know you must have had an idea about what just transpired." Ericson didn't want to ask directly. He wanted to hear what he believed to be the truth and he was going to extract it from Rita.
"I don't know what happened between the Omega and the Luna, my Alpha. But ... I did hear something." Rita looked at Avyanna and quickly looked away because she felt guilty.
"Yes! What did you hear?" Ericson asked with so much enthusiasm.
"I just heard the Omega begging for forgiveness and I saw the Luna just staring at her. As soon as I walked away, I heard the Omega running out with wounds." Rita answered honestly.
"When you saw her beg, you walked away correct?" Avyanna asked like she was cross-examining Rita in a court of law.
"Yes I did." Rita nodded.
"As you were not so far away from the door, did you hear anything else after that?" Avyanna maintained her questioning method.
"No I did not." Rita confirmed.
"Good." She looked at Ericson and said, "Nancy, wounded herself to make me look bad and you, all of you!" She looked at the crowd that looked at her like she was guilty, "think that I am the one. I don't wound people, I have them for lunch!"
Her eyes glowed briefly and she felt her wolf again in that moment of anger.
"Katie?" She whispered telepathically, willing to stop screaming and start searching for her wolf again, but the crowd didn't give her the opportunity. They started hailing her and accepting that she is right.
"The Luna makes a very valid point." Vanessa said. Even though she never supported the Luna's attitude towards her brother's mate, she trusted that Avyanna was disciplined and would never be so petty to wound Eric's mate just to get to him
"Yeah, She does."
"I never trusted that omega anyways."
Words of trust and believe in the Luna sprang from the crowd and because the people hailed her and accepted her truth, it distracted her from searching for her wolf.
Avyanna looked at them and said calmly, "I trust you all believe me now."
"Yes. We do." Jonathan spoke on behalf of the crowd. He looked at Ericson and nodded, before he bowed and dispersed the crowd.
It was just Ericson and Avyanna left standing. He looked at her in regret. A moment of silence took the atmosphere, making it more intense.
"You really didn't hurt her did you?" Ericson asked slowly.
"You know what's crazy? You actually believe I would stoop so low to do that to someone beneath me." Avyanna tut-tutted before she walked away towards her chambers.
Ericson followed behind her authoritatively, trying to pacify her and start a conversation with her.
"Hey, I hope you know I didn't mean to yell at you that way." Ericson began as she climbed the stairs that led to her destination.
"I couldn't care any less about what you meant to do or not." Avyanna kept walking.
"I am sorry, okay?" Ericson said stiffly.
"There is no need to be." She opened the door to her office and walked in.
"I know but... I am. I was just so worried about her." He walked in behind her.
"Because you bonded with her last night?" Avyanna scoffed, with a little sarcastic giggle.
"Oh my! I ..." His nose became sweaty and he had difficulty finding the right words to say. "I ... You... I am sorry about that Avy. My inner instincts couldn't let me..."
"I really don't need an apology Eric. Trust me. I am totally okay. Have fun with your little mistress." A lot was on Avyanna's mind. First was her wolf that just showed up again, and the other was her imminent vacation to the land of the Lycans.
It was as if Ericson read her mind because the next thing he said was so unexpected and uncalled for.
"I have been thinking about your trip to the Lycan king's place, you know." He moved closer to her, showing care and concern.
"What about it?" Avyanna was expecting him to say that she can go and stay with the Lycan king because Ericson himself was already having sex outside the marriage. She really thought he wouldn't mind her not being with him anymore.
But no, he said, "I don't think you should go anymore."
"And why shouldn't she!"
The thunderous familiar voice sent shivers down her spine and gave her a slight feeling of ecstasy. The ecstasy grew as she comfirmed his identity. It was the Lycan king staring angrily at Ericson who was extremely shocked to see him.
"Speak of the literal devil." She thought to herself. Avyanna was surprised to see Baron because he said he was giving her three days to rest and it wasn't even three days yet.
"I turns out that I made a mistake when I said in three days time" Baron smiled, "This instance, perhaps."
He looked at Avyanna, waiting for a confirmation from her.
