CHAPTER 57
CHAPTER FIFTY SEVEN
The creatures of the night that flew at the peak of the very tall towers in the realm shrieked louder as Nancy approached the humongous front door. The very large bats looked like pterodactyls that flew through a time portal from a time where dinosaurs were an endangered species.
The shrieks penetrated Nancy’s eardrums intensifying the fear that she felt. The shivers ran through her spine down to her core and she felt sick in her stomach; like the butterflies in her belly were as venomous as the creatures that hovered miles above her.
The dark cloudy skies above gave the impression that it was a portal that led to a much darker realm. She couldn’t remember the last time that she felt as scared as she felt. She found it difficult to put aside her fear but she eventually did it after a long minute of focusing on the huge door in front of her.
The door was ten times her height. It was made of a thick gray mahogany wood and chunks of metal embedded in it. It was a door forged in the deep depths of the realm’s fiery workshop. The door couldn’t be opened by anyone, for it had a mind of its own. If it didn’t deem one worthy, then the said person would not enter because the door wouldn’t open up in the first place.
As Nancy stood before the door, waiting for it to open, she heard a proud voice speak beside her, “Hmm, Hello Trevor.”
She immediately looked at her right hand side and saw Alpha Thomas smirking darkly at the door, then dashing her a much prouder grin.
The door then creaked open slowly. The creaking sound was the loudest sound that could be heard through the realm. It even echoed into the pitch dark room that it led to.
“Thanks Trevor.” Thomas smiled, then he looked at Nancy and asked, “Are you coming in or are you going to wait and let Trevor slam himself in your face?”
“Thank you Trevor.” Nancy whimpered in subtle fear and scurried into the room, behind the brave Thomas.
“You never show fear before Trevor, or else you would be standing there for … well forever because time works differently here.” Thomas kept talking in pride.
“Yes! I am very aware. You don’t have to remind me everytime that we meet like this.” Nancy said.
“After all this time, you still get scared by Trevor.” Thomas cackled maniacally as he walked further, and Nancy walked faster to meet up with his pace.
The room was pitch black save for the fires that burned atop large sticks at every corner of the large room that they navigated. At the end of the room was the foot of an endless staircase that spiraled to the peak of the tower, and more fires were lit to keep the place bright to a literal fault.
The pair made their way to the end of the room and began a new journey; through the staircase to the top of the tower; their final destination.
“I can recall the first day you walked into this realm. You were but a young girl who was already in death’s claws before he saved you and brought you here.” Thomas began as he took the first step of the stairs.
“Yeah. I can recall you being very warm towards me.” She said sarcastically as she walked beside him.
“Really, I could have sworn I was very very stern to you.” He laughed, mocking her sarcasm. “I’m just kidding. So how would you say you have done on your second mission?” Thomas asked.
“I’d say I’ve done pretty well?” She answered, unsure of her answer, almost like she wanted Thomas’ opinion on how she actually did on the mission.
“Pretty well? Ha.”He said in subtle mockery. “Let’s see, the Alpha that you were supposed to use to get to the Luna is dead, and the Luna has grown stronger.”
“Whose fault is that?” She asked, not even ready to bear the responsibility for anything.
“Don’t look at me. I did my part in breaking her and splitting them up. You had to make the next move.” Thomas smiled peacefully. He knew that he was in no way to blame.
“Then he died unexpectedly.” Nancy spat out.
“You sure it wasn’t you who killed him?” Thomas just asked to get her riled up.
“No! Jeez! Why would I kill him? Even after we would have been done, I would have still used him for other pleasures before I did away with him.” Nancy revealed in agitated honesty.
“Oh well.” Thomas laughed silently, amused by Nancy’s words and fidgeting.
“That begs the question. Why did I have no idea about your affiliation with Ericson?” Nancy focused on Thomas, oblivious of the rip in reality that opened in front of her. She didn’t even realize she had walked through a portal.
“Oh dear, you have no idea about a lot of things.” Thomas smiled, replying directly to her question.
“Mm hm, that just sounds like something you say when you do not have an answer to a question. Explain to me how everything fits! Now Thomas!” Nancy requested sternly. She was kind of on a friendship level with Thomas even though he was years older than her, and he would playfully act like he was bullying her.
“Well damn. Okay. Ericson made a deal with the Devil, just like I did.” Thomas began spilling with the voice of a narrator of a mystery film, “The thing is, Ericson didn’t want to be His minion, he just wanted the favor…”
“Let me guess, the Master did not allow it.” Nancy cut him off abruptly.
“You guessed wrong. Master allowed it… for a while. Mu-ha ha ha.” Thomas chuckled.
“Do you have to laugh?”She scoffed, “What happened then?”
“I was the broker that was sent to keep tabs on him so I milked him for everything that he had while I kept his secret. I kept it until I had to let Avyanna know.” Thomas continued with his narrator voice.
“What is this secret? Quit being cryptic with me.” Nancy wanted her answers.
Thomas paused, not saying anything yet. He just grinned his same old psychopathic smile at her and said nothing until she tut-tutted in frustration. Then he laughed and resumed talking.
“Well, he is dead so this can’t hurt. Ericson killed Avyanna’s parents to gain dominance and I was the only one the Devil trusted to …”
“I can’t believe it… Well, I can believe it, it’s the master we are talking about here. But I can’t believe he did that. No wonder it was so easy to infiltrate the pack house and use my hypnotic powers to make him believe that I was his one true mate.” Nancy giggled wickedly, almost nursing pity for Avyanna. Then she remembered that Avy was her foe so she scoffed in spite.
“The late Alpha was a despicable and ambitious one. May his soul rest in eternal damnation.” Thomas bowed his head in sincere mockery.
Nancy laughed and said “I know that you were supposed to cause problems in this plan but I had no idea that you had ties this deep and your claws are deeper than mine in this unraveling.”
“We are here.” Thomas cut her off. They arrived at the end of their destination. At the top of the stairs, the end of their ascension, there was a very large room that was brighter than any other place in the dark tower. From outside the room, Nancy could feel the dark aura emanating from the room already.
“The stairs get shorter the more we climb doesn’t it?” Nancy said in surprise at the speed they used in climbing the stairs.
“Nope. We would have been walking for years. We walked through a portal.” Thomas said proudly, widening his eyes.
“You don’t have to always calculate the ephemeral time spent here in years, it is very misleading.” Nancy rolled her eyes.
“Ephemeral? Please.” He chortled, causing her to scoff even louder as they walked into the room.
The room had a very colossal round table at the center that took up eighty percent of the room space. There were chairs that were crafted with the bones of werewolves and other creatures of the night and were adorned with the skulls of wolves.
The round table looked like something that was built with the tower. There were claw marks on it and a map that indicated that it was a meeting point where diabolical creatures met to decide the fates.
Nine chairs and one surrounded the table. The one chair was adorned with multiple skulls and bones, and it was three times larger than the nine chairs.
Seated on the nine chairs that surrounded the table were three werewolf Alphas, two ancient vampires, one siren, one hybrid, Alpha Thomas, and Nancy.
Thomas leaned towards Nancy and whispered to her, “Do you know what baffles me?”
“Nope. I never always know with you, Thomas.” Nancy whispered.
“How did you know that I was affiliated with Ericson?” He asked.
“Oh dear you have no idea about a lot of things.” Nancy dashed a smile at him and winked at the siren at the table, Daniella.
“Damn it.” Thomas said in defeat. “She told you?”
“Yeah but not the details.” Nancy smiled wider.
Daniella was the only female at the round table, alongside Nancy. She was a siren who led a band of sirens who wreaked havoc through the kingdoms and settlements. They would sneak themselves in and make sure that that kingdom was ruined. Above all, her kind was an endangered species and she was their leader.
Nancy had gotten close with the Siren and the two had hit it off. Nancy often exchanged information with Daniella, even while she was at the pack house and she had to remain under the radar.
The round table went silent after Thomas cussed briefly and the beings sat eagerly, waiting for the one who would sit at the large throne made of skulls and bones.
Suddenly, the air in the room got thinner as the clouds above the tower darkened and thickened. There seemed to be a whirlwind forming at the center of the room, and out of the dark foggy wind emerged a creature in its full glory.
Immediately, all the royalties in the room got up and bowed humbly as the apparition that emerged from the wind floated slowly to his throne.
“All Hail Theseus, the dark oracle of the Nether Realm.” Thomas called out.
“Hail the dark oracle.”
The dark wind dispersed and a diabolical looking man could be seen sitting at the head of the table. He just let out a low growl in approval.
“Sit.” His voice thundered in the room.
