CHAPTER 31

CHAPTER THIRTY ONE
In a bid to avoid colliding with the truck, Baron swerved his car furiously. Unfortunately, the swerve was too immediate and forceful, his car lost balance and glided off the road, tumbling and tumbling. The helpless fall of the car sent Avyanna and Baron flying lifelessly inside the disheveled metal box. The car somersaulted down the bushy sloped side of the road, until it crashed.
The final crash was loud enough to be heard from a mile away but no car stopped to check what happened.
Baron's ears rang for a minute before his sense of hearing was restored. Then, his sense of sight followed suit. His world seemed upside down before he realized that it wasn't his world, but the car he was in. He was bathed in injuries, but that didn't stop him from kicking the sealed doors of the tumbled car and free himself. He looked beside himself and saw a lifeless Avyanna.
"Dear moon goddess. She's dead, isn't she?" A pessimistic Roy exclaimed.
"No! No! You can't die on me." Baron fought his way out of the car and moved to the other side of the car where Avy lay.
Baron did not care about his injury, he knew he was going to heal so fast as a Lycan, he was worried about Avyanna. He dragged her out of the dismantled car, carrying her in his arms. He dropped her on the ground behind a tree.
"Avyanna are you hurt?" Baron asked as he scanned her body for any open wound or scar. He was never going to forgive himself of he had hurt her. Rather than driving carefully he lusted after her and he would have lost her in the process.
Just as he was drowning in worry, the Luna coughed silently, then blinked rapidly as she slowly return led to the land of the living.
"I'm... I'm fine. It was just so unexpected." The Luna stuttered. Despite the accident, she was very uneasy as the Lycan Alpha was touching her, it gave her butterflies that made not just her stomach flutter.
"I'm so sorry Avyanna, I thought I hurt you." Baron said with a worried look on his face.
Avyanna was shocked because the Lycan Alpha showed no pride in front of her. Heedless of the absence of her wolf, Avyanna felt safe and protected in the hands of the Lycan Alpha and she didn't understand why she was so calm after everything.
"You're hurt, let me take a glance at that." She drew her tender fingers along his bruised neck as his wounds slowly healed themselves. It must have been her touch that quickened the healing process, because the more she advanced her crawling fingers, the faster the injuries healed. Baron could feel the warmth of her breath on his open injuries, he could perceive her earthly scent of roses and bananas as she seemingly moved closer to him. He looked up and met her alluring gaze. Lost in a million emotion, he moved his face closer to hers then stopped when he realized what he was about to do.
"We should start leaving." Baron escaped from Avyanna's touch by standing up immediately he had the chance to. She had no idea how much he wanted to kiss her lips, feel her skin, listen to her hearts desires, and make love to her soul.
"The Lycan territory is quite far from here, how are we going to reach there?" Avyanna asked after realizing that they were stuck in the middle of nowhere.
"I can call Steve to bring another car but that would take so much time and we have to reach the Lycan territory before nightfall because these areas are dangerous at night especially now that the rogues are rebelling." That was a total lie Baron framed up. He didn't want a third party, Steve, to come in between them in this journey. He found this moment as an opportunity to get to know the Luna without being interrupted.
"Please don't tell me you want us to walk to the Lycan territory." She almost rolled her eyes in semi-frustration.
"I could carry you if you don't want to walk..."
"We should start going then, before it gets late." Avyanna cut in. She wasn't in the mood to play any mind games with the Lycan Alpha. She was angry that he had pushed her away when she was trying to tend to his wound but she couldn't tell him because it would hurt her pride.
Avyanna and Baron had not said a word to each other for about thirty minutes during their walk and Baron became fed up and decided to break the silence.
"Why aren't you talking to me?" Baron asked.
"I don't have anything to say your Majesty." Avyanna responded still walking along the route the Lycan Alpha had suggested to her as the safest.
"Whoa... Did I do anything wrong?" Baron was taken aback by the Luna's tone.
"I'm sorry, I just have a lot on my mind." She heaved a weary sigh.
"What really happened between you the Omega earlier today?" Baron decided to change the topic.
"That little br*t!" Avy cursed, "Pardon my french."
"It's okay," He smirked, "I can imagine how annoying she can be." He consoled.
"Can you imagine that she drew blood out of her own skin only to accuse me of wounding her." For some reason, Avy felt more comfortable telling Baron about what happened, than she was telling Ericson.
"She is such a sociopath."
"Yeah and I have to deal with that."
"How do you feel knowing that your husband is siding with her?" Baron asked, fishing for an avenue to further establish his importance.
"I think you're asking too many questions here."
Inasmuch as Baron was fishing, he also wanted Avyanna to confide in him. He wanted them to be more than allies at least till when he can tell her that they are mates.
"Are you afraid of telling me deep secrets about you." He asked.
"What exactly is your problem?" She cut him off.
"I don't get you. What do you mean?" He asked, putting his wrath aside.
"You've been too close and nice to me lately and please don't misinterprete me, I appreciate all the help and efforts but I feel like we should only communicate to each other formally since we are allies."
"You better start getting used to my questions if we will be working together." Baron responded nonchalantly as he kept on trekking on the path with Avyanna beside him.
"Please don't tell me you're serious." She wasn't having it. A part of her thought the Lycan king was joking.
"Well, sorry to disappoint you but I am."
"Your Majesty..."
"Call me Baron!"
"Baron, with due respect I don't really understand where all of this is heading to but just be assured that I am not interested in going to bed with you." She moved quickly, walking faster away from him.
"That's interesting. I love the challenge."
"I mean it."
"Avyanna, if I wanted to sleep with you, I would have made my intentions known to you right from the night of the Full Moon Feast." He argued. And he did make a point that Avy considered plausible.
"So what do you want? Why are you being extra nice and caring towards me? You said you were going to pick me up in three days but you came today." She asked all the questions that troubled her
"Well I guess you caught me then."
"You said you don't want to go to bed with me, so what do you want?"
"I like you Avyanna." Baron said affirmatively, without batting an eyelid.
Avyanna's mouth went dry, 'How could the Lycan king say such to me?" She thought to herself. She inevitably got scared and that changed her mood towards Baron.
"You must be kidding right?" Avyanna scoffed lightly, with hints of a suppressed giggled.
"I don't joke about such things." He maintained his affirmative nature.
"We are not even the same..."
"I know that it rarely happens and that's what makes us unique. You are a special person Avyanna, and you can't just let another man ruin your whole life just like that. There is more to see and know in this world." He raised an eyebrow, as if to ask, 'Am I not right?'.
"But you know I have a husband and nothing can work out between us."
"We are going to help you get that divorce to leave that hell of a marriage.". Baron said with confidence.
"So easy for you to admit that."
Baron noticed how discomfited the Luna became due to their conversation.
"Avyanna, I want you to understand that I would never force you to do anything that you do not want to do. We are working as allies but I would not hide the fact that I am interested and attracted to you and I would love to court you when all of this is over but that will only happen when I get your approval." He was serious when he spoke. But he was still able to show that he genuinely felt what he said.
Avyanna became speechless at the Lycan Alpha's confession. She had nothing to say to him because she didn't just know what to say about the entire situation. Her life was a mess and she wasn't ready to make another mess out of it. She was really amazed about the way the Lycan Alpha spoke his mind but she wasn't going to be influenced by mere words. All her life, she had imagined everyday with Ericson but it cost her everything she owned. What if the same thing happened to her with the Lycan Alpha?
Her relationship with Ericson was still hurting her so much no matter how she pretended to be okay and she wasn't sure she could trust another man and let him into her life easily. This was a second life to her and she wasn't going to waste it by falling in love.
As Avyanna remained silent, strolling beside Baron with her head down, she heard him say, "Welcome to the Lycan Territory."
Then she looked up, that's when she saw it.
