CHAPTER 84

CHAPTER EIGHTY FOUR
Baron got up from his knees and stood opposite Avyanna for a while.
He remained silent not because he didn't have an answer but because he wanted the tensed atmosphere to loosen up abit. But it didn't. The more the silence lasted, the more intense it got.
The duo did not utter any words but communicated with their eyes. A communication that spoke volumes.
As Baron stared at Avyanna, his mind wandered and so did hers.
Before Theseus left the room, he observed the look on the Luna’s face, then the Alpha’s face, and he knew that Baron wanted him to leave.
After he left the room, he thought to himself; ‘What if I act a little bit nice again as a shield of protection to interfere with whatever the alpha has to say?’
Immediately, Theseus turned around and walked back to Avyanna’s office. He popped open the door and poked his head in first.
He saw Avyanna and Baron caught up in a staring contest that was immediately diverted to him.
“What? Why are you back?” Avyanna asked immediately, but Theseus just smiled. He looked up to Avyanna, walked close to her, touched her left palm and said.
“This will probably mean nothing, but I will advise you listen to him. Even if you do not want to give a minute or less, just hear him out.”
“Who is this?” Baron asked roughly, sensing the strong presence in the room.
“You’ll find out soon enough.” Theseus whispered to himself as he walked out of the office. He got to the door and turned around to look at Baron, then he dashed a very brusque smile before he left.
Avyanna was quite surprised to see Baron, but it still did not mean she wanted to talk to him. She wanted her things straight to the point, and she was sure Baron knew that aspect about her.
She would have been happy if Baron said whatever he wanted to say and leave, seeing him stand in the same room with her, at that given moment was not something she could endure, given the fact that not being sexual and free with someone she loved was not the type of self-control she had thought she would deal with.
“Please Baron if you have anything to say to me, now is the right time. I don’t have the time, to sit, and chat, with a heartless, annoying, unsatisfied, creature. You eventually had everything you needed… even me.”
Baron bowed his head in regret. Then he muttered some inaudible words.
“You had me, Baron. But you went around killing people who weren’t a threat to you. Ericson might have been a stupid and immature man who was not bothered about my emotional and physical need of love and attention, and he would never go around killing anybody for no important reason. He would never do that.”
“Avy … anna.” He sounded strict, “I am in the state of grief already by my act, I cannot and will not explain myself or give you any reason for being stupid, but Avy, I love, care and want to be with you. I cherish you. Please don’t hate me that would be the death of me. I have not been the best of all creature you have seen, and you will see, but I promise to be that one creature who would love and cherish you all the day of your life.” Baron’s body grew cold and he felt as if his pulse had stopped.
Avyanna had never spoken to him the way she did, she never belittled him or made him feel as though he had a fault, this was the very time she raised her voice on him.
“His grievance will rest on you, and you should have thought about what and what was not important to you. Before you went ahead with taking his life.” Avyanna felt how abrupt and brutal she was with her reply, but she was not going to blame herself for feeling hurt by Baron’s act for he had betrayed her. Even if Ericson gave no shit about her, she would have preferred him to die according to his fate, instead of being killed by the same man she had high hopes for.
She wanted everything about Ericson to be in the past for her, so she would know she had no connection with him or whatsoever, that was the very same reason she divorced him and separated her packs from his. But, here she was struggling with the same fate, not knowing how she was going to forget Ericson, knowing that a very important person in her life murdered him.
Tears were all set to take its journey out of Avyanna’s eyes and she sniffled a lot to hold it back.
“Why did you do it?” Avyanna questioned with her arms crossed, “You must have had some good enough reason to do such a thing, so why?!”
“He killed your parents Avy. He broke your heart every day. He was the enemy, and I had to eradicate the enemy.” Baron was firm. He had no remorse for what he did, he just regretted that it had such an effect on his relationship with Avyanna.
“It was never in your place to do what you did, or are you the judge, jury, and executioner now?” Avy kept sniffling, holding back the tears that were now on the brink of bursting through her eyes.
“He showed no remorse for what he did. He was going to keep manipulating you until he finally killed you. I couldn’t stand back and let that happen.”
“Baron… Ericson’s death was not your call to make. It never was.”
“If he was going to hurt you, then it was my call to make. If he ruined your life then it was my call to make.”
Avyanna paused for a moment, allowing a heavy silence to engulf the room.
“Baron do you want what is right for me?”
“Yes.”
“How bad do you want it?”
“So bad. What is right for you right now? What do you desire?”
“The right thing for me right now is for you to leave.” Avyanna’s tears slowly rolled down her cheeks.
“But Avyanna… I am not leaving until …”
“Please leave.” she was calm when she spoke.
Baron could do nothing except stare at Avyanna, despaired by her tears.
“I will go but please be careful. That man that was in here when I walked in is not a good creature. His energy was something else and he is not what he seems to be.” Baron spoke. He moved roundabout, feeling a bit anxious.
“What are you going to kill him too?”
“No… I … I am just looking out for you.”
“Well, thank you, but I don’t need it anymore.” The tears kept pouring out. Her lips uttered words that were alien to her heart.
Baron was not talking from a place of jealousy. He could tell with his heightened sense of perception that the man he walked in on, Theseus, did not have good plans for Avyanna.
Baron knew a whole lot of people but Theseus’ face did not ring a bell.
“I will go. Please be careful Avyanna. I know I have no right to judge anybody, but I know what I felt.” Baron took a couple steps back and bowed down. Lifting up his head he said.
“Be angry with me, but do not hate Gina or Rania. Especially Rania. If you need anything from me, I will be willing to offer. It is my fault you are mad, not that of my sister’s. My sister’s miss you and love you dearly, Rania has not been herself without you, please don’t hate them for my sake, they have good intentions towards you, please.” He walked out of the office, leaving Avyanna alone to her thoughts.
There was no doubt that Avyanna loved Baron. His words weakened her, but she had built herself not to listen to whatever he had to say to her. She was not going to fall for him again.
Avyanna missed Gina and Rania dearly, but what could she do? She sat down on the chair next to her and began to weep. Seeing the man that she loved walk away from her without a hug or kiss like the way he used to do broke her heart. She knew she wanted him, but that would be a disappointment and insult to the second chance the moon goddess gave to her.
The moon goddess gave her this chance so she could right every wrong but it did not seem to her that she had lived to up to that standard of no complacency.
Avyanna had to remember all the great times she had with Baron. He had been of help to her a whole lot of times, but yet she did not know if she was to bring him close or keep him at arm’s length.
Her mind was not at rest; What if he had evil intentions, not just for Ericson, but also for my pack.
Avy was a leader and because of that, technical decisions had to be made. She could not doubt the feelings she had for Baron, she knew it was real, but everything was so intricate, it enmeshed as day went by.
What was she to do? how she was going to do it?
Seeing Baron again, unlocked her eyes and tears of emotions kept flowing out. She cried but that was not going to originate any result for her, so she decided to console herself. She went into her room, had her bath and prepared herself for hunting.
She went under the full moon and howled until midnight. It seemed like the nightmare was not going to end. She wanted Baron badly, but she had fears, Nancy once told her that she did not reason and think her plans through, she felt that it was true, she did not want that to be he fate. She had the urge to visit Laruen hills, but that was not a wise idea, so instead she visited a bar.
She drowned her sorrows in Wolfsbane and enjoyed her moment alone. At least before dawn, she would walk out the bar a happy woman, who would basically tune into her powers.
