CHAPTER 41
CHAPTER FOURTY ONE
"Why would a werewolf kill her?" Steve asked with a puzzled look on his face. Nothing was making sense as to why Amanda was murdered in cold blood.
"When last did you check up on her?" Baron had given Steve the role of ensuring that Amanda was safe and sound, despite the fact that they were no longer together. His love for her had not faded but he could not face her anymore after what she had done to him.
"The last time I saw her was before the night of the Full Moon Feast. She was living a quiet low life yet a very comfortable one. I wonder why someone would kill her." Steve used the shock element to hide his incompetency and ravaging guilt that had disturbed his mind. He stared at the body and then he looked at the broken claw that Baron held with bloodied fingers.
"These are werewolf marks on her neck.” He said pointing at the wounds on her neck and fiddling with the claw he extracted from her neckbone. “Did she get into any fights with any of them?"
"I don't think so. After her cover was blown, she didn't want anyone trouble so she decided to stay alone." Steve focused on Baron as he spoke. If only he had been extra alert and present, he would have known how Amanda ended up dead.
"So why the hell would a common werewolf end her?" Baron growled in anger.
"Your Majesty, I'm not sure but come to think of it, the frozen prowlers were attacked and now Amanda is dead, do you think this is just a mere coincidence?" He searched within for answers, even as he waited for Baron to give a reply.
"What are you implying?" Baron sparked in withdrawn anger.
"I'm saying we need to be alert because something might be going on of which we are not aware of." Steve said, pacifying Baron’s rage at the insecurity, yet he was still angry at the fact that his ex was dead.
"Are you implying that all these things are done to get to me?" Baron asked sternly.
"I'm just suspecting because it's just weird. We might be feared but we don't look for trouble and we mind our business. Amanda is a Lycan and we have a super healing factor than the werewolves. Whoever did this, had planned it all along and didn't just stand alone to kill her. It was a team work."
"Just go straight to the point." Baron knew that Steve was holding himself from saying something that might annoy him.
"Don't you think all of this could be related to your alliance with the Luna?" Steve asked with a programmed tone that almost made Baron consider his claims.
"You must be kidding!" He yelled.
"Honestly pal, come to think of it, rogues attacked the frozen prowlers and now Amanda is dead with werewolf marks on her neck." Steve made a point but he was concerned about the Lycan Alpha.
"What you are saying is that my mate could be the reason why all of this is happening?" Baron wasn’t sure if being angry was the right thing to do anymore because Steve was making a point.
"I think so but I will carry out a very serious and careful investigation on the case." Steve assured the Lycan Alpha.
He was angry that Avyanna’s presence at the territory made him drop his guard and allow for danger to creep in. Even though he tried so hard not to be angry at her, he found himself being furious at her.
Baron wondered if the Moon Goddess sent his mate to come and destroy his life. If this was what would cost him from staying with his mate, then he wasn't sure he was ready for it.
"Just bring her body back to Asturias." Baron said, then he tossed the claw to Steve, “Make sure to find out who this belongs to and keep it under wraps.” He concluded before walking away.
"Where are you going? Aren't you coming back with me?" Steve enquired.
"Not right now, I need to clear my head." With that Steve left the Lycan Alpha on his own without further questioning because it was obvious that Baron wanted to be left alone.

They had gotten into a serious fight and they were expressing their feelings to each other in spite of Avyanna's anger but an ordinary person's death would never make Baron to walk out on her like that.
Maybe she was expecting too much from him.
Avyanna's welcoming Feast had come to an end and the people were dispersing to their different abode. All through the Feast, Avyanna could only thing of one name: Amanda. She knew that whoever Amanda was, she played an important role in Baron's life. She felt like she was a fool to think that she could be the one and only person that Baron would ever be seriously interested in.
Baron had told her earlier that he was controlling himself around her and that alone had convinced her that the Lycan Alpha cared about her even though she had acted stubbornly. Avyanna knew that this wasn't a time to like any man especially after what she went through in her past life in the hands of Ericson but there was something special about the Lycan Alpha she couldn't understand. Her stomach would flutter at the sight of him and she couldn't deny the fact that she had developed feelings for him as well.
Avyanna stared at the path Baron had walked out on her, hoping that he would return any time soon to apologize for such behavior but he never came. After the maids had cleaned up the hall that was used, Avyanna decided to go to her room and wait, hoping that she would wake up in his arms again like the other night.
After showering and dressing up in her night wear, there was a knock and her door and she ran to open the door, eager to see the Lycan Alpha.
She left the door open in frustration as Rania and Gina ran into her room.
"Avyanna! Sorry we didn't come earlier, we were trying to make sure everything is in order before Baron would make a fuss about his territory tomorrow morning." Gina said as she rolled her eyes.
"Avyanna you were so pretty today! The dress suits you perfectly, please wear it again next time." Rania cried out in excitement.
Avyanna thought of the word 'next time.' With the way things were going between her and the Lycan Alpha, she doubted they would be a next time but she couldn't say that to hurt the little girl's feelings.
"So, babe what's up with you? You're not looking lively." Gina noticed the worried expression on Avyanna's face.
"I'm just tired and I need rest. Can we maybe post pone this conversation till tomorrow?" Avyanna pleaded.
"Are sure everything is alright? Have you seen my brother? I don't think I saw him during the party." Gina asked.
"You know brother is not a fan of such things." Rania said.
"Baron left the party with Steve and I don't know the reason why, but I think something was up." Avyanna took this as the perfect timing to ask about Amanda. She knew she was invading the Lycan Alpha's privacy but she was too curious to know who Amanda was.
"What could possibly be the problem?" Gina pondered, searching Avyanna’s countenance and noticing a worried look. "Okay, I think it's time for the matured ladies to talk.” She said looking at Rania.
“It's past my bedtime anyways so I should be leaving. Goodnight Luna Avyanna, Goodnight Sisi." Rania sounded like her feelings were hurt because they didn’t want to include her in the conversation, even though she yawned sleepily as she spoke.
"Goodnight Rania." Avyanna responded with a smile.
After Rania had left the room, Avyanna gave Gina a look that explained that something was up.
"Did he tell you where he was going?" Gina asked Avyanna.
"No but the news Steve brought to him was serious." Avyanna whispered like an expert gossip.
"What was it about?" Gina keened into the conversation.
"It was about the death of a certain girl … Amanda." She called the name like the name had a bad omen to it.
"Amanda!?" Gina screamed.
"Yes."
"Damn, then I don't think he would be coming back anytime soon." Gina smiled and shook her head.
"Who is Amanda?" Avyanna was tired of the suspense around her.
"It's not someone you would know but she was Baron's first love." Gina spilled.
"Baron has a first love?"
"Yeah and I know he doesn't seem like one to have but Amanda was very close to him and she broke his heart anyways but that didn't stop him from loving her." She kept spilling.
"Oh. I understand now. My condolences, I should probably go to bed now." Gina didn't understand the sudden rush in the conversation and she wasn't ready to argue either. She thought she had said something wrong to Avyanna.
Avyanna had heard enough already. It was all she needed to know to understand where she stood in the Lycan Alpha's life. A sudden gush of jealousy flooded Avyanna as she lay, almost unable to fall asleep.
