Chapter 101

Shakti and Archon’s past continued.

“Did you hear the news?” one God said to another at early morning training.
“I did, I mean how can you not with everyone talking about it” replies another god.
“I was told that this will be it for them” another adds
“I mean it isn’t like she helps out around here so I am not surprised that he called the wedding off” a goddess adds.
“Just the other day, she was asked to help with the morning patrol and she refused. I mean Lycus looked pissed” Athan adds.
As each god and goddess turned their head to look at the new voice behind them, each and God and goddess stopped gossiping and had equal looks of shock and terror on their faces.
“God Athan, we are s…sorry” a god replies and drops to their knees begging for forgiveness.
“Why?” Athan responds.
“We are gossiping about our new Queen” A female goddess replies also dropping to her knees.
“Yeah… and?” Athan replies looking at the other gods and goddesses in the group that were also starting to drop to their knees as well.
“We shouldn’t be doing this. We are terribly sorry” A god replies
“Yes, so sorry” a goddess adds.
“So, what I mean Archon isn’t a god that is petty and by all accounts you have not said anything wrong. So, I don’t understand what you are doing right now” Athan says while looking at his nails and then flicking his tongue out to graze one of his fangs.
“It isn’t right” the goddess that first dropped to her knees mutters before bowing at Athan.
“Mm, I see” Athan says as he walks away from the group.
As Athan continues to walk to the dining hall he notices that nearly everyone is talking about Archon and Shakti. The whispers that reach his ears are nothing short of the truth and really, he has to hand it too them at least if they are going to gossip, they are doing it with truths and logic.
As Athan enters the dining hall he walks past the tables and everyone is whispering in here as well.
“Athan” Archon calls out.
With a nod of his head Athan moves towards the King’s table and takes his seat next to Archon. Greeting the other gods and goddesses at the table he turns towards Archon and arches a brow.
“What” Archon asks exasperated.
“Where is Shakti this fine morning?” Athan asks as he reaches over to grab the jug of blood infused coffee.
“She is sleeping” Archon replies with a slight bite.
“Of course” Erebus mutters as he reaches for the fluffy bread.
“Where else would she be” Hekate mutters
“Sleeping when she should be patrolling” Lycus growl as he grabs a leg of lamb and starts tearing into it.
“Waste of time” Daimon mutters as he snatches a sausage link off of Erebus plate before honing in on Hekate’s
“ARGH!” Archon growls as he grabs his coffee.
“What? Are you annoyed that she is sleeping? Or are you annoyed that the gods and goddesses are whispering and gossiping? Or and I have to say this is my favourite. Are you annoyed that Shakti still hasn’t conformed to what you have asked? Because I have to tell you the gods and goddesses aren’t saying anything but the truth. It is embarrassing that she isn’t pulling her weight. It isn’t right that ninety of our warriors have been running after her day and night to make sure that she is a Queen in every way. Nor do I like the new goddess that has come she is mean and Athena would be so much better.” Athan says calmly.
“All of it” Archon mutters as he looks around the dining room hall.
“Maybe you need to really look at what she is doing and make a call, no mate is this useless surely.” Daimon mutters.
“She isn’t doing anything” Lycus mutters
“Too true brother” Hekate says as she shoulder bumps him.
“What are you all so against this?” Archon says looking shocked at each friend at this table.
“Yes”
“Totally”
“Don’t like her”
“Not a good fit”
“Selfish and that isn’t a Queen” They reply one after another.
“But she is my mate” Archon says as he looks at each of his friends.
“Is she?” Hekate says as she stares back into Archon’s eyes.
“Explain?” Archon snaps at Hekate.
“First, don’t take the tone with me, King or not I will still turn you into a toad for a week. You have to admit things are right, she isn’t displaying the normal Queen like grace and good will. Your parents died and the sad thing is the Old King was against this. He said that the Queen muttered something over the link before she died. But then you came and the King was just so happy that you survived. But he didn’t like Shakti, he was against the wedding and voiced that on the day of meeting her and then two days later he died and your getting married. I could never work it out because you agreed with your father to wait.” Hekate says as she continues to stare at Archon.
“That is true bro, you said that you would wait until everything settled down and then not long after the old King’s death you are up planning a wedding which took precedence over the funerals.” Daimon says as he too nods his head.
“It was strange” Erebus agrees.
“Strange, it was down right hocus pocus.” Lycus says as he quickly dodges to the right to avoid Hekate’s punch.
“Then new goddess shows up, and we all agreed to the wedding” Athan says as he continues to drink his coffee. He didn’t see all the eyes flick to him, and they all missed Shakti and Phoebe in the shadows bitting their lips as they look worried and scared.
“What are we going to do?” Shakti desperately whispers to Phoebe.
“I need to up the potion, it seems that it doesn’t last long on these gods and goddesses” Phoebe says as she reaches under her skirt for a vial of potion.
Shakti, watches as she empties the entire vial into the new jug of ambrosia giving it a quick swirl Shakti snatches it from Phoebe’s hands and walks towards the king and his friends with the biggest smile on her face.
“M..morning everyone” Shakti says shyly as she goes around and pours the ambrosia into everyone’s glass. Just as Phoebe was doing in the background to the other gods and goddesses.
“Lycus, I am sorry that I turned down morning patrol and I would like if you added me to the schedule as of tomorrow.” Shakti says with a small smile as she takes her seat next to Archon.
“Archon, can I please address the room?” Shakti asks quietly.
“Why?” Archon replies looking deeply into Shakti’s eyes. It’s not that he doesn’t care for her but for some reason over the last couple of weeks he lost the instant love he felt when he first met her.
“I would like to apologise to everyone” Shakti says earnestly.
“Oh, ok” Archon says as he stands and gets everyone’s attention. “Everyone Shakti would like a moment of your time”
