The Bitter Truth




Tom's POV



David opened the door, looking at Tom waiting for him to introduce himself and to say who he was here to see

"Who are you here to see?" David asked

"Sorry, it must have been the wrong door" Tom said as he turned to go

"Who do you want to see?, I can help narrow your options," David asked again

Tom turned to look properly at him, "I'm looking for Racheal"

"Racheal?"

"Yes, is everything OK?" Tom sense something wrong

"Give me a minute" David closed the door slowly, then changed his mind "What do you want to see her for?

"It's confidential, if she is in just tell her that Tom is outside, she would understand"

"OK, I would be out in a minute" David went back in

Tom could only hear whispers that seems more of a quarrel

"Who is he?"

"He is just a friend" Racheal kept her child on the bed

"A confidential friend?" David asked


"What do you mean by that?"

"He told me that you guys have a confidential conversation which he would rather speak to you about, what's the meaning of that friendship?" David was getting upset

"Calm down, let me go and know what he has to say, just stay here, I would be back soon"


Racheal heart raced 100km per Heartbeat, she was nervous, shaking, thinking of what to do. But nothing came out,

"Racheal?" he said, more of a question

"Hi Tom, what are you doing here? Why didn't you call or leave a message before coming over?"

"Who is that guy?"

"The one that came out asking who you are?" Racheal asked, she already knew Tom very well even though they've spent few times together,

"Yes, who is he?"

"A friend, what's this interrogation all about?" Racheal was getting nervous

David couldn't wait inside any longer as it seems the conversation she was having with Tom never seem to end

"What's going on here?" David stormed both of them outside

"David no…" Racheal said beneath her voice

"Who is he?" Tom asked again

"Yes, who is he, Racheal?" David

"I…. I mean, could you just come in so we can talk calmly?, the neighbours are hearing our voices"

"What is going on here?" David raised his voice and opened the door wider to come out

"OK, Tom or whatever you call yourself, this woman is my wife, we've been married for six years with a beautiful child, so the sooner you say what you are here for, the better for everyone" David said grinding his teeth

Racheal just stood there quiet, she couldn't say a word, she was caught guilty so there was no lie that she could think of to hide the already glaring truth

"You are married?" Tom faced her, looking as confused as ever

"I was going to tell you" Racheal said almost like a whisper "I… I…" she couldn't say anymore words

"Save your words" Tom said to Racheal

Tom have been having an affair with Racheal for the past two years and she never mentioned that she was a wife… a mother

This was the worst day of his life, he turned instructing his driver to turn on the car

"Drive" Tom instructed


David went in with anger immediately Tom left, Racheal stood outside for a few minutes, she wanted to process everything that had just happened and to think of how she would explain it to him

"Babe" Racheal called out immediately she opened to the door to come in

"Babe?" this time, more of a question

"What was going on between you and that guy?" David finally answered,

"There was nothing going on Dave, nothing, I… I promise" she lied "I mean, it just happened once but it never did"


"What just happened once?"


"Dave… we needed the money, Elsa was sick, do you remember when I told you that she was sick and I needed money to take her to the hospital?, that was when it happened"



"That was a long time ago" David slammed

"And it just happened that once" Racheal did not know whether she was a fool for going after her husband instead of Tom, greater things lies ahead with Tom but with David, the future is certain but blur

"I need some air, I would step out for a while" David carried his phone and left


"Babe please, I'm sorry" Racheal ran to him

"I said I need some air, and" he turned to look at her properly "And you would have to stop working at his company as a cleaner" he said almost like an order and left

"You know I can't" she said but to the door because he had already left


"What do I do?" She asked herself as she walked round her room with her hands on her head "This can't be happening" she couldn't hold back her tears anymore, she fell to the floor crying




Lusi's POV



"I don't know how it happened mum, but I want to go check on her now"


"Ohh, she must be going through a lot, should I come with you?"

"No mum, you don't have to and nobody died at least for now, please stop crying like that" Lusi said to her mum

"You know that she is like a daughter to me, it hurts me as much as it hurts her, Nancy works for her?"


"No, I don't know what happened or how it happened, but I would give you the details when I get back, I would just call to know where she is" Lusi replied

"Please do, I already left a message for her"

"Ok mum, that is very thoughtful" Lusi picked her phone to dial Helsi

She called her over and over again but she did not respond

"She's not responding" Lusi said "I hope she is Ok wherever she is"


"Just go Lusi, go wherever you think she would be, everywhere she has gone to, her favourite spot to clear her head" Mum suggested

"Of course mum, do you think I would just sit and wait for her to call back? I am leaving now"

Lusi grabbed her car keys and headed to the door "I would see you later mum, I love you"

"I love you too"

Lusi drove as fast as she could, first to Helsi's home

"Good day ma'am" Lusi has heard alot about her mother-in-law, and she wasn't ready for any bullshit she would spill out

"Who are you here to see?"

"I am here to see Helsi" Lusi responded

"That bitch?"

"Hold on, who are you referring to as a bitch?" Lusi asked

"Helsi, who else would I be referring to" she said with so much confidence


Lusi went closer "Don't you ever" she went further to pull her hair, Lusi had always wanted to do that to her, she have never seen such a woman that tormented another woman all because she married her son

"How dare you?" she raised her hand crying

"Don't you lay your filthy hands on me" Lusi slammed her and left

Lusi entered her car, inhaled deeply before starting the car
"What next now?" She asked herself before she drove off to her company

"Please be there" She said to herself referring to Helsi


She noticed the company closed from afar, pedestrians already had the whispers going through town, the police surrounded the company.

Helsi quickly stopped the car, to go down the company to get more information

(Phone rings)

"Hey Joy"

"How far, anything yet?" Joy asked over the phone

"Not yet, am getting worried about her, I just came out from her place but she wasn't around with her annoying mother-in-law"

"Have you gone to the company, I have been trying to reach her but I can't seem to reach her" Joy said

"I am at the company right now, the company is already surrounded by police and investigators, I want to go in and see how much information I can get" Lusi responded

"OK, I would keep trying her line, I already booked a flight so I should be there in less than two hours"

"OK babe, hurry please"

"Yeah, I will" Joy said as she hung up

Helsi walked further to meet the police
"Hi"

"You are not allowed to be here" The police responded

"I know but please I just want to know about the CEO"

"What about the CEO?" He turned to look at her with his eyes open. "Who are you?"

"I am a friend of the CEO, I couldn't get hold of her after the incident so I am worried about her that's why I asked"

"She is not here, could you leave this area now?" the police ordered

"I… OK" she changed her mind

Lusi went back to her car, thinking of another possible place Helsi might decide to go to clear her head
She couldn't think of anywhere else at the moment but her favourite bar, Connaught Bar.
