I Need To See My Lawyer!



Helsi's POV



Sunshine slanted through the window, gauzy and radiant, proclaiming the arrival of a new Day.

The bright sunlight woke Helsi up, sleep had not come until nearly dawn. She'd spent hours last night thinking about her baby and the mixed up situation she is in until at last she'd slept in sheer exhaustion. It would have been easy to remain where she was, to turn over and seek refuge in sleep anew, for what had she to look forward to? A day entombed in this tiny chamber?

Perhaps it was the sunshine. But she had no desire to laze about , for she was tired of being afraid. Nay, she decided, she would not waste away in melancholy pity.

Courage, she told herself. Courage and faith. The latter would not fail her, for she could not allow herself to believe that God would desert her.



Betty knew she would be worried about her predicament, but instead, she could only feel tired. And she was grateful. She hadn't been able to sleep more than an hour or two at a time since leaving Tom. Then again, she'd never slept well. Surrendering to exhaustion, the thought of her baby sloughed off her worries and flew out of the place where she was attacked to the oblivion of deep, dreamless sleep.


The fragile strands of consciousness lay just out of her grasp for Lord only knew how long. With a strength she hadn't known she possessed, Helsi clenched her fingers repeatedly to waken. She lay there a long time before she stood up


Her mind was blurry, she wasn't sure if she had swooned or fallen asleep. But she wasn't foolish enough to succumb to it again. This unnaturally dark, frigid cocoon frightened her.

She sat on her bed, stretching her neck to her back

"Today please be nice" she said with a deep sigh as she went for a shower

"Argh" she screamed in the shower, "Please" She cried as she knelt on the floor, water flowing from her hair to her thighs then down to the soul of her feet "I need you baby girl, I'm gonna find you and get you home"

"Is everything OK?"

Helsi could hear Joy asked over the door

"Yes" she said at the top of her voice, she didn't have to anyways, the bathroom took her echoes to Joy

She hurried, she had stayed long enough in the bathroom to cause worries. She came out, got dressed because she fixed an appointment with her lawyer later in the day

Helsi was stattled immediately she opened the door

"Jeez Joy" Helsi held her chest

"Are you sure everything is OK?" Joy asked

"Gosh Joy, didn't you hear me?" Helsi rolled her eyes, going downstairs

"I did"

"I you decided to stand at my door, you would have entered" Helsi found her behavior very funny

"Well, you were spending so much time showering, I just stood here so that I can reach out to you" Joy smiled, following her steps downstairs

"Is Lusi back?" Helsi asked, she noticed that no one was in the living room

She did not get any response

"I need to see my lawyer" she gave a deep sigh then she smiled "I'm really can't wait to see his reaction" she turned to face Joy "I couldn't even…" she stopped, she noticed her facial expression

"What wrong? You don't look so good" Helsi asked

"Lusi didn't come back in good terms with her mum"

"What happened?" Helsi came closer "Where is she?"

"She is back in her room, she is fine lucky for her" Joy said

"And my life just gets worse" Helsi ran into conclusion with laments, her emotions were messing with her already


"She is fine, don't get worked up already" Joy said to her

"What then happened to her that makes you look like this?" she points her face


She remained silent again

"What happened?" this time she screamed



Lusi's POV


"Mum" Lusi groaned "Get up, we have to go" she reached out for her hands to pull her out of the bed

"Who are you?" she asked as her eyes dozed on and off, being very clumsy

"Why did you get so drunk?" Lusi was getting upset "I told you not too, please just do me a favour and stand up, you have a large weight for me to pull you up"

"I can help" The lady who has been standing quietly behind said

"It's fine" Lusi wished she could punch her in the mouth so that she won't add to the anger she already had for her

"I… I don't want to go, please don't take me away" he mum kept saying "If you do, my daughter would come after you"

"I'm here mum, Lusi" She was so drunk, she couldn't open her eyes wide open

"You just cause health issues for yourself at this old age mum" Lusi was getting teary

"Lusi?" she strained her eyes slightly open "Is this really you?"

"Mum" tears rolled down her cheeks "Why do you keep doing this to yourself?" Lusi asked

"You father" Lusi's mum cried out this time "He made me like this" she cried even more

"Alright, let's get home then we would talk more about it"

"OK" she stretched out her hands "Help me out"

Lusi grabbed her hands to pull her out of the bed "Easy"

"Alright, I would see you guys later" The lady just kept getting to Lusi's nerves

"Could you just shut up?" Lusi slammed her

She opened her mouth wide open in shock to what Lusi had just said

"Oh my" was all she could say "I watched over your mum like she was-" she was interrupted

"I know and thank you for that, thank you so much" she gave a sarcastic look and forced a smile

"Thank you Saila" Lusi's mum said in her drunk voice

"Have a goodnight ma'am" Saila responded to her, throwing the most dirty looks at Lusi as ever
