Chapter 50 - The Call He Made
The Call He Made
George's POV
"I think he is from their printing department"
"You think?" George slammed him over the phone
"Am sorry sir, he should be from the printing department, I got a call from the bursar that our dealer laid more business proposal"
"Is that what we discussed?"
"He lost both his sons in a terrible accident leaving his succession to doubt, he bargained for a seat at the table for the only thing that could tear down the company was you"
"Was that a threat?" George was shocked at the audacity he portrayed
"Those were his exact words sir"
"He could get himself another wife to have another son oops, I forgot he is barren, he should then adopt another as his son but No, he is a selfish beast"
"The manager needs your approval to sign the deal made with billionaire's son, he has been on my neck, I tried several times and ways to reach out to you but I couldn't"
"He has my approval" George said
"OK" he replied and made some clicks on his phone which George could hear
"Alright before you ask further questions which you should send to my email, I need you to check on someone for me" George went straight to the point
"Aye sir" he kept his listening ear really close, he didn't want to what had happened to him before to repeat itself
He was almost burnt to death when he misunderstood his information about taking the life of a man
George was a stubborn and furious man when he was younger, he took no bullshit and took no nonsense, others wondered how his wife and kids coped to him with his deep anger issues
"I need you to check on my first child"
"Racheal? Or Helsi?"
George paused for a minute, he knew he hadn't checked on Helsi nor Nancy for a long time and the feeling of guilt creeped in
He gave a deep sigh " I was referring to Racheal"
"OK, what information do you want about her?" he asked over the phone
"I've not heard from her for weeks and my wife is pesting my life about her silence, so I need you too" he paused
"Listen carefully, you wouldn't want what happened before to repeat itself" he continued
"Fully understood"
"So as I was saying, I need you to check on her and let me know why we can't reach her including her husband David, let him know that I would take his head off his neck if he doesn't respond to my calls or that of my wife" George sounded really upset when he spoke those words
"And one more thing, send those documents for the new products, I need to ship them off quickly" George added
"Fully understood sir"
"Good" George said and ended the call
George kept the phone at the left side of his pocket and picked his second phone to reach out to Helsi
After several calls to the man he reserved to watch over her, he threw his phone to the wall directly facing him, badly damaging it
"Goddammit" he said in a low angered tone, he didn't want his wife suspecting anything to avoid her never ending questions
"What the hell is wrong with everybody? Why would they not pick up their calls or messages?" he was getting worried rather than upset at Helsi
"Alright" he inhaled deeply
He was always told by his therapist to inhaled deeply several times especially when he couldn't get hold of his anger and that helped him alot
The thought of flying over to her country to see his daughter Helsi came to him several times but the risk
"God the risk!" the thought out loud
(Phone rings)
He hesitated for a little while but then picked the phone call
"Hey"
"Longest time" Janie said over the phone
"May I know who I speak with?" George didn't know he was onto
"You don't know me George, are you kidding me? Even from the voice?"
"How the hell who I know you by your fucking voice? Just go straight to the point" George thought to himself holding himself so hard not to say it out loud
"Please tell me" he said this time around
"OK" his tone changed like he had lost the vibes he had at the beginning of the call "Your old time friend Janie, we drank beer together in the beer shop when you got your first appointment"
"OK" he was still trying hard to remember, the memory was creeping in slowly but he couldn't until…
"I was the man that poured a wine on you for staring at my wife, you then hit me so hard that I fell unconscious" he laughed
"Ohh, Janie… Wow, it's been centuries, I clearly remember the wine you poured on me" George laughed
"Yeah, so how have you been?"
"Hold on, how did you reach me?" George was curious
"You told me about your new appointment to a company remember?, so I went there asking of you and that was how I heard that you are the current CEO"
"OK" George smiled
"You've grown a large man, how did you do it?"
"I worked hard and I'm good, how are you doing? Wife?"
"We are no longer together, we got separated about two years ago" he tone changed
"Why? What happened?" George asked
"She cheated on me, and I found out about it from my brother, she cheated on me with my brother"
"That's cruel"
"Yes, well.. Its already in the past so she can have sex with whoever she wants to" Janie said over the phone
George could sense his not caring attitude about his wife from his voice
"Very well then" George said
"Where are you, I want us to share glass of wine together like we did once a long time ago" Janie said over the phone
That was the least of the problem that troubled George, he was trying real hard to be as nice as he could to Janie but he was getting to his nerves
"I would check my schedules for the next few months and let you know when I would be available to a visit" George said over the phone
"Yeah, I get, you must be very busy these days, being the CEO is not a child's play" Janie understood his words
