Chapter One hundred and Two
I lay on the couch, my arm still hurt from the gunshot. I was in pain. The pain relief the doctors gave me made me dizzy most time.
"Would you like to eat anything?" Mera asked
"Just coffee"
"You need to eat something," she said
Mera had been super helpful. The vacation I wanted to go for was canceled because of this hit.
I thought about Arya.
"Was she safe where she was?" I thought
Mera came in with a tray, when she brought it closer she had not only made coffee, she also made me some toast.
"I thought I told you I wasn't hungry"
"You need it, boss"
"Where is Jade I haven't seen him today?"
"He went out, though you are aware of it." She said
"Not exactly. Get me, Keith, or Dole. I need someone to take me to the office"
"They too are not available. You gave them some time off remember?"
That was true, I had told them to take some time off.
"But that was before I was shot"
Logan had almost got me but he failed this time and this was going to be the worst mistake he would ever make.
"You need all the rest you can get, besides I have everything handled properly at the office"
"And everyone is saying get well soon"
Mera was right, the painkillers made me feel woozy most times, and going to the office will only make me slow and unproductive.
She made sure I ate the breakfast and then she took it away. Most times I wondered why she was being so good to me. She came back to the room.
"Would you want me to do anything else for you?"
"No. thank you," I said
"Alright" and she left.
I lay in bed most of the day and when I was tired of doing so I went down to the sitting room to play some games. It was difficult controlling the pads because of my arm.
Jade was still not back. I wondered where he had gone to. He never acted this way. He was mostly by my side what changed today?
I picked up his phone to call him and he didn't pick up. Something was definitely wrong because this was unusual.
I called Mera and she picked up immediately.
"Have you heard from Jade?"
"No I have tried reaching out to him but he isn't picking up"
"What about his house? Have you checked there?"
"No. Not yet"
"Alright. I'll go and check for myself" I said
Mera was about to protest when I ended the call. I didn't want her to stop me from going with what the doctor said.
I went back to the room and got dressed in khaki shorts and a polo. I walked to where the car keys were and picked them up as well. Then went to my car and got inside.
I drove to Jade's house. I often wondered why he got to this place when he rarely stayed there. He was always at my place. Then I remembered Mera. They both had a thing going and so I guess he wanted his privacy.
Arya came to my mind. She was my everything and she had betrayed me by keeping her identity from me. That was not acceptable. I wanted to be with her for the rest of my life and every chance of that ever happening was ruined when I discovered she was a siren. A bloody siren. Deceitful, evil, and wicked. They had ruined my life when they took my sister and my mother.
I wasn't going to give up my promise to my sister and mother for a siren. Never.
I got to his house and it was locked. I called out from the outside but there was no response.
"Where could he have been?" I thought.
Jade never leaves me without telling me where.
"Was he hiding something?"
I picked up my phone to dial his number again but he was not still picking up. I entered the car and drove back home. Something was really fishy.
I called Mera after some time to know if she had heard anything from him but she said no.
The painkillers I took had started making me feel dizzy again and so I relaxed my head then I got a call. I picked it up and I saw the name on my screen, it was Arya calling but I had saved it with a love emoji. I declined for as many times that she called.
"What the hell did she want from me? She should let me be"
I relaxed back on the couch, leaving my phone on the table beside me. It started ringing again and I picked it up. This time it was a strange number then I declined it again. The number called again and I picked.
Just as I had thought it was Arya.
"Please don't hang up". She pleaded
"What do you want from me?" I asked
"Please we need your help"
I didn't wait for her to say anything else and I ended the call.
Arya stopped being my responsibility the moment I found out what she was. I wanted to act oblivious to what she had said but I was still worried.
I didn't even know where she was. She had called me to save her.
A part of me wanted to jump into the car to her rescue but the other part was adamant to move.
"Her kind should save her," I said
And then I dropped the phone back on the couch and dozed off.
I saw Arya with blood all over her body and tears in her eyes. She kept shouting
"Please help me. Don't let them kill me"
Then the old woman I had seen at Kuja came and she had a hurt countenance.
"You are supposed to protect her. That is your destiny" and disappeared.
Then I woke up immediately. I quickly grabbed my phone and keys. I tried calling the line she used in calling me back but no one was picking.
And then for some weird reason, I decided to call Jade. This time someone picked it.
"Hello, Jade where are you?" I asked
It wasn't Jade who answered the call. Jade didn't do random women so who was this and this person was crying.
"This is Jean," she said crying
"What are you doing with his phone? Give the phone to Jade" I shouted.
"Jade was shot"
"What!! Stop joking and pass the phone to Jade" I said
"I'm not joking. They shot Jade and took Arya away" the woman cried.
