Chapter Forty

I woke up to my breakfast already arranged beside me. It could have been no one else but Mar. He was so sweet and lovely.

I was such a lucky lady. I picked up the tray containing the breakfast. It looked so delicious.

Then I noticed a note just by a corner in the tray. I picked it up and opened it.


Good morning sunshine, I'd have loved to be there when you woke up but I had something to attend to. Enjoy your breakfast. Jade will take you wherever you want to go to today. Kisses.


I dropped it back and rushed to watch my mouth and then came back to eat.

Had my breakfast in a flash and took my shower. I got dressed. I was going to the orphanage to see mama. I needed answers.

I met Jade outside the house.

"Are you ready?"

"Yes I am... but I hope you taking me to the orphanage won't affect your personal plans"

"Not at all."


"Okay .."


We got into the car and he drove off.

"You seem to do everything Mar says"


"Not exactly but I try my best not to disobey him."


"You both seem really close"

"Yeah..... he saved my life and I owe my existence to him"


"That's strong... so you want it to tell me about it.?"


"Yeah... he saved me from the sirens, I would have been wasted and long-dead but he saved me and gave me a home and job"


"Wow, I'm proud of him... what are sirens though?"


"They are mermaids and they have the power to make any man or woman fall for them after luring them in with their voices and then they'll kill."

"I was lucky to have been saved by humans so I joined him as a siren hunter. He has so much hate for those species after killing his sister and has sworn to take his revenge"

At this point I was sacred, the creatures must be really evil. But did it have anything to do with my dreams. He had mentioned a mermaid and I had been having dreams of me being a mermaid. I decided to keep shut.


We talked about other things but the discussion about the sirens bothered me. I got to know about Jade.

We got to the orphanage and he stopped the car.

"Do you want to join me?"

"No ill wait in the car"

"Alright I won't take so long"

When I got into the orphanage, there was no one in sight so I simply went over to mama's room. She wasn't there as well.

"Where could she have gone to"

Then I checked the garden. And there she was. She was trying to take out the weeds and trim the flowers.

"Mama you shouldn't be doing that yourself"

And she turned to see me.

"Arie!!!" She shouted as she stood up immediately and came over to me for a hug.

"Yes mama" I answered as she pulled me in for a hug. The hug was a long and really tight one.


"I have been super worried about you. I hadn't seen you in a long while and I had planned on coming to the city to look for you, just to be sure you are okay."


"There won't be any need to do that I'm here now"


"You shouldn't stay this long before coming to see me again"


"Yes, I won't. I have something important I need to discuss with you"

"What's that? Are you sick? Is there any problem"

"None of that but I want you to promise me that you'll tell me the truth"


"What is it, Arie?"


"Who are my parents?"

"I do not know your parents Arie. I have never seen them before and I don't know where to find them."


"Mama please help me. I'm having a series of dreams and two men following me. I got lucky the last time, they almost kidnapped me. One even mentioned that I was just like my mother."


"I need to find my mother and know what this chase is all about and the dreams too"

"I don't know her"

"Okay.. who brought me here?"


Mama kept mute after I asked that question.

"Mama please tell me. This is the time for me to know my true origin. My dreams are getting scarier by the day and I need answers. They feel so real."


"Please tell me."

"Okay... you were brought in here by a blind woman. And since she dropped you here I haven't seen or heard from her"


"Blind woman?"


"Yes, she was blind. But she made us promise not to tell you till the right time. This seems to be the right time, for she said you will be plagued with weird dreams and you will seek answers. Then we should direct you to her"


"Where do I find this woman?"


"That's the problem. But I can remember she mentioned a place called Kuja"

"Where is that?"


"I don't know. But I don't think it is safe for you to go there alone"

"I have to find answers to all of these. I promise to be careful and I will check up on you from time to time. I have to go now"

"Please Arie, be careful," she said as she hugged me.

I spent some time with her and helped her to clear some of the weeds. I had completely forgotten Jade was outside and so said my goodbye and rushed to meet with him

I went to the car and entered. Then we drove off. I was tempted to ask Jade about the place Kuja but I was skeptical about it.

"I'm sorry for keeping you waiting"

"That's alright. Besides in your chauffeur for today," he said smiling and I smiled back at him.

"How did it go?"

"It was great. They were happy to see me and I was happy to see them too."

"That's great, do you want to go anywhere else?"

"No . I'd love to go home"


"Home it is"

Jade drove us home.

When we got home, the others weren't around.

"I'll go join the rest of the" Jade said and then left with the car.

I went up to see Laurie. I wasn't expecting to see her. We jumped into each other's embrace in excitement.

"Why didn't you tell me you were coming?"


"I wanted to surprise you"

"And you did a wonderful job. How did you get in here?"

"I met Mar and some other people and he said I could stay provided it will make his girlfriend happy" and I began to blush

"I was going to tell you, Laurie"


"Really? When?"


"You are here now and you already know"

"How did it happen?"

"Well he asked and I agreed"

"That's amazing.. and have you guys done it?"
I was so embarrassed by that question but Laurie being who she was would not let me rest until she hit an answer.


"Yes ... we have" and she stood up dancing.

"We have a lot to celebrate for Arya. I'm happy for you. Few weeks with me and you're collecting the D now. Wow"

We laughed together while we tried to catch up on all that we had missed out on.
