Chapter Seventy Three

It had been days since I ran away and truth be told. I missed Mar is much. I felt terrible for the way I left but I had to because of the circumstances.

Joan was so concerned about me, she made sure I was good before she went out to work every day.

"You should join me in the shop one day," Joan said.
"I'd love to," I said. "

I will make arrangements for that."

"What arrangements?" I asked. I was confused.

"What arrangement was she talking about?" I thought.

"A dress."

"Oh...thank you," I said.

When I came to meet her, I came with nothing. I had been putting on her clothes since I got here.

"Do take care of yourself, I will see you when I get back from the shop."

" I will and you take care too," I said to her and waved goodbye to her. While I was alone.

I thought of all Isla had told me and I knew my origin and now I wished I could unknow what I know.

Isla had told me that I was going to experience more attacks and I guessed it would be from hunters searching for my kind. I hated that position fate had put me in. The man I loved would hate me if he found out that I was a siren and I did not blame him for hating sirens.

They had hurt him and now I knew what I was, I could not change it and the best thing for me to do was to stay away from him.

I got all the messages he had sent and the calls but I could not bring myself to pick them up. I thought of my mother Pamela, she must be worried about me by now. I didn't have that chance to tell her about my meeting with Isla and to say goodbye properly.

Jean got back from the shop late in the evening and insisted we should go for a walk. I did not want to but after she persuaded me for a long time before I finally agreed.

We walked by the streets and people were walking to and fro too. I could see the lights all around. It was a wonderful view. Jean and I talked about various things and moments like this made me miss Laurie as well.

She had died because of me. I did not protect her the way she would have protected me. She had been my sister and friend.

"I miss Laurie so much"

"Yeah I miss her too even if I didn't spend so much time with her" Jean said

"We had to organize a quick burial. It was so difficult to say goodbye"

"I understand. I felt the same way when my mother passed on. Take care, Arya. You need to be strong"

"Thank you for letting me stay at your place"

"Come on. You are my friend and I'm sure Laurie would want me to take off from where she stopped." And we both smiled.

We walked a little further when I noticed some weird movements behind us.

I turned around but there was no one behind us. I ignored the movement and continued walking with Jean. I noticed another movement and turned around this time I noticed a swift movement.

"What is it?" Jean asked

"Someone is following behind us," I said.

Jean turned around but didn't find anyone.

"Look there is no one behind us," she said

"There is let's go home please" I pleaded

"No. we just got out here."

"I insist. We should go home, it's not safe out here. Someone was following us."

"If that's what you want, then let's head home," she said. We walked back home and I kept turning my head around to see if anyone was following us.

Mar was going to search everywhere until he found me. And I knew there were still bad guys out there searching for me.

When we got home, I took a hot shower and settled in bed. And my dreams were filled with Mar.  He held me so close to him as he caressed my skin.

"I love you," I heard him say.

I woke up very early the next day, I was going to the shop with Jean today. She had gotten me a dress just like she had promised earlier.

It was so beautiful. I thanked her so much for it.  This was the first time I was going to the shop with her.  Jean's mother had left the shop for her to manage after she died; she had been handling it perfectly.

It was not so big but enough to provide for herself and her family. I did not want to be a liability to her and so I felt working for her would be a good idea.

They had a lot of customers and they were nice and sweet. I assisted in arranging some of the new items that had come into the store and when I was done I joined Jean at the counter.

Joan got a call from Lance's school. It was an emergency call from the principal.

"Lance got into a fight with one of his mates and so the principal needs me," she said

"That is fine Jean I can manage by myself," I said.

Jean showed me some stuff and their prices and then she left me. I sold some items to a couple of people who came along and then decided to rest for a while.

Then a man wearing a red hoodie sweater came inside and then I recognized him. I had seen him somewhere. I tried to remember.

"Shit! it was Dole" One of Mar's men.

"What was he doing around here?"

I tried to hide behind the counter so he wouldn't see me.

"Did Mar have a clue that I was here?" I prayed for him not to get close to the counter or he would find me and fortunately for me he did not.

He left after scanning through the shop. I guess he did not find what he was looking for. I had to be extremely careful to disguise myself, so I would not get noticed. I wanted to save up so I could go far away from here where nobody knew me.
