Chapter Sixty

I know Isla could help me but she was proving so difficult but I followed behind her and persisted in her help.

"You need to do me this favor and I promise to repay your kindness"

"I can't let you do this Yara"

"I want to do this"

"Your papa and mana would be so upset with me if they ever found out I helped you do this, especially your father and I don't want that"

"I promise to keep this away from them. Please help me fulfill my wishes"

"Okay... I will help. But you will have to drink this bitter potion" she said showing me the potion and without thinking twice I snatched it from her hands.

"It had instructions you must follow carefully"

"I'm all ears isla," I said with so much excitement. I was gale I was going to spend some time with the human folk.

"You will stay close to the sea because the potion wears off after a while"

"Is that all?"

"No... That is the most important of them all... you must stay away from the water while you are with him"

"Why?"

"You automatically go back to your real form of you come in contact with water"

"Is that all now?"

"Yes it is"

And without waiting for her to say a proper goodbye I swam to the waterfront and then took in the potion. I looked down at my legs and there was no change.

"Did Isla trick me?"

I waited a little longer but there still was no change. I wanted to go back and query Isla for giving me a fake potion when o felt an electric shock around my body.

It was strong and I could not control it. It felt like o was going to explode. I wriggled around for a while and then I felt like o was drowning.


That was when I noticed a lighter movement below. I looked down to see the most adorable legs.

I walked into the cave and met him still sleeping. I felt warm by his side and from the atmosphere, it was almost dawn.

My papa and mama must have noticed my absence at home but that was the least of my concern. I wanted this full folk to come back on his feet.

I could not stop admiring my feet. I was scared to walk on it for fear that it might break. I had to crawl into the cave.

Isla had told me not to stay long and I had spent quite some time here. I put on the fire each time it went out. Just so he could remain warm.


I noticed some parts of my thighs turning back to scales. I wanted to go back into the water before I blew my cover. Then he woke up.

He spoke but slowly and calmly.

"How did I get here?" He asked

"You were in an accident ... you got hurt and I brought you here"

And then he slept back. I had to leave before I completely turned. And so I crawled back to the sea and swam back to my home.

And just as I had snuck out I snuck back in. And laid down in my tent.


When morning came my mama came over to meet me in my tent.

"Where did you go to last night?"

I was shocked she saw me because I made sure she and papa were inside their tents before I left.

"I didn't go anywhere"

"You are lying to me... I saw you leave last night"

"I went to think... I needed to clear my head."

"My child you are about to be the envy of the other sirens. You will be queen soon and I think you should not be going out on such walks alone"

"I do not want to be a queen and I do not want anyone to envy me. I just want to be a free and happy mama. Is that too much to ask?"

"You definitely will be when you become maithusa's bride"


I didn't want my mama or papa breathing down my neck over this topic and so I swam away from home.

"Let me be mama and please don't come after me" I warned.

I went over to isla. But she was not around and so o went back to the surface. Then I saw him trying to come out of the cave. I dodged behind a rock.

He was so handsome, his dark hair and brown eyes were like nothing I had ever seen. He had the perfect body.


I  got the portion and then my legs came out. The potion we not as electrifying as the first time. It was a swift change. I came out of the water completely.

He noticed me and then had a shocked expression on his face. I mastered walking on my legs within a short time although I wiggled like I was going to fall down. And then he rushed to my side to help me.

I watched him, he was limping. His thighs must still hurt.

"Why are you without a dress?"

That was when I realized why he had the expression earlier, but I didn't feel exposed at all. I saw a lot of people move around the land without covering up and so I felt it was normal.


He took me into the cave and covered me up with the shirt that he had taken off.

"You should wear this... it will protect you from the cold."

He was such a sweet person. And I wore it inhaling his scent. I had not said a word since I got there. I kept staring at him.

"Do you speak?" he asked

And I kept mute... "what's your name?"

And I nodded. He gave up asking questions and then started giving me signs.

I was amazed by what he looked like. I had never been this close to a full folk in all of my life.

Isla had told me it was impossible but here I was talking to one. Not talking to one exactly but listening to one talk.

His voice was a thick bass. And it sounded like music to my ears each time he spoke up.

"What is your name?" He asked again.

"Yara... what is yours?"

"Oh you speak... that's great. I'm Erick"
And I saw him smile, he had a perfect smile and I watched him with so much fascination.


"You are beautiful," Erick said and I blushed.


"How do you feel?"


"How did you know?"


"I brought you here. I found you by the shore" I lied

"Thank you... I feel a little pain by the side of my thighs"

And I touched it. He flinched at first but then stayed calm while I caressed it slowly.


"Thank you for saving me. But I have to go back home"


"Alright" I responded sadly as I pulled away from him.


"I won't forget you... I'll come back to see you" he said


Erick left after spending some time with me. But he promised to return and I believed him.


I had completely forgotten about the potion and its rules and my legs had begun to change to a tail, before I could get back to the water I completely changed.

I swam to meet with isla. and the minute o saw her o hugged her tight.

"It worked... It worked" I shouted

"Is he awake?"

"Yea he is just like you and said earlier"

"I'm glad we were able to save him."


"I have you to thank for that...and he has promised to see me again"


"No Yara... you and he are not of the same world and so anything your chasing can never come to pass"


"You had told me staying close to a full folk was impossible but I did it and it felt so wonderful. He even gave me his clothes" I said showing her the clothing he has given me.

"He likes me and I like him too"

"You can't have anything to do with him. You and he are of different species."

"Stop sounding this way Isla... is it a crime for me to be happy?"

"No, it's not. I just don't want you to get hurt and you need to be careful from now onwards"


"I am always careful" I whined

"Okay if you say so. Your mother came here in search of you." isla said

"What did you tell her?"

"I told her where you went to," isla said

"How could you betray me" I shouted and then she burst out laughing.

"I was only pulling your legs. Your mother never showed up here. I just wanted to torture you a bit"

And she got me there.

"Please no matter what happens do not tell anyone about this"

"I promise not to tell"

"Even my mama"

"I promise"

And I believed her. I knew I could count on her anytime any day.
