Chapter Seventy Eight

I told Jean about the man in the red hoodie and she insisted I stayed back at home for that day. Just to make sure I was safe enough.

"You should stay at home today," she said


"I want to help at this store"

"I noticed how cold you were yesterday. Like you had seen a ghost or something. So I thought it was best if you stayed home today."

"I am fine Jean. I can cope."

"No, I do not want to be a liability to you. I want to work for whatever I enjoy"

"Stop that. You are not any of that. I'm just asking you to stay home for your safety"

"Okay.." I agreed and she left.

I stayed home and did the chores in the house. After cleaning, I made Mac and cheese, took some out, and put the rest into the fridge. I was going to microwave it for Jean and her brother when they came back.
I sat down and watched the soap opera: it had been a long time. The soap opera reminded me of Laurie. It was her favorite show. I missed her so much and I wished I could have her here with me.

Jean was trying but it would have been great to have Laurie here as well. I noticed the light of my phone came on.

I walked to where it was and lifted it. It was a test message. I opened it, it was from Mar. He had not stopped leaving emails for me and messages and this one shocked the hell out of me.

Hey Arya this is Mar, mother Pamela has just been involved in an accident and has been rushed to memorial hospital. I thought you should know. Love Mar.

Mother Pamela was in an accident.

"How?"

"She rarely came out and so how did it happen?"


I was confused, I wanted to know how she was but I could not reach her and the only way was for me to go and find out for myself.  I went into the room and got dressed. I picked up a paper and left a message for Jean.

Got an emergency to attend to in the city, I'll call you when I get there. Please don't worry about me


I took the train to Salamanca. In about 30 minutes I got there. I had put on a hoodie and I felt covered up a bit.


I took a taxi to the hospital and when I got there I went straight to the reception and requested to see Mother Pamela and the nurses directed me to a ward. I entered the room, but there was no one inside. I think I was sent to the wrong ward.

I turned around to leave the room and that was when I saw him. Mar. He was standing by the door with his eyes fixed directly on me.

And then I realized I had been tricked. It was all a lie. Mother Pamela was not in any accident. It was a plot to bring me back.

"Was this all a setup?"

"I tried to...."

"Answer me" I shouted

"You went missing and you got everyone scared," mar said as he came closer.

I stood up and moved away. I didn't want him to come any close. He might detect what I was and I didn't want him to hate me.

He ignored my reaction and came closer to me. He hugged me so tight and I hugged him back.


"I missed you so much and I had to do something to bring you back."

I was quiet because I didn't know what to say. I missed him too.


"Why did you leave Arya?"

"I had to... I was scared"

"Scared? Of what? Of me?"

I couldn't answer any of his questions. And from the look of things he didn't know what I was yet but I know that when he finds out he would be mad with me.

As much as I want to leave at this minute, I didn't want to leave him. I wanted to be with him.

"I'm sorry but I was scared"

"I am here to protect you Arya, and I will do that till my last breath"

"Tell me what scares you..."

"I see the people chasing me and I think it's not safe" I lied

"I'll protect you, Arya. Please come home with me" he pleaded and I did.

When we got to the house, I met with Mera and Jade. They couldn't hide their shock. Mera didn't spare me a minute. She rushed and hugged me.

It was not the same now that I knew what I was. It felt like I was betraying them. They would find out one day and hate me for deceiving them.

"Come, baby," Mar said to me.

I went over to meet him and he held my hand as we walked into the house. He held me like I was going to disappear in the next second.

I wanted to enjoy being around him. In his arms kissing him.

I remembered to call Jean and then I excused myself. Mar didn't want to let me go but when I promised to return briefly he let me.

Jean picked up the call at the first ring.

"Hey! Arya... I've been worried sick about you. Are you okay?" She asked


"Yes, I am. I just wanted to let you know I am safe. Would speak to you later"

"That's fine. You can come back anytime my family will always welcome you"

"Thank you" and I ended the call and went to join Mar in the living room.

"You look really tired, a hot shower will be perfect," he said and he was right, that was all I needed.
I went up to the room and had a shower and when I came downstairs Mar had made dinner.

"Dinner is served," he said with a smile on his face.

Seeing him smiling made me realize how much I missed him. I walked to the chair he had pulled out for me and sat down. We had dinner and then he took me to the room and we laid down on the bed and cuddled. I knew what was next and I wanted it badly.
