Chapter Thirteen
I was excited that I could make that much for him. He was so happy and I was happy too.
I can't remember the last time someone told me I was special. Mother Pamela, I had missed her so much. I needed to go and see her and know how she was fairing.
When I got home, Laurie and Jean were not home and I was thankful for that.
Laurie would have been offended that I didn't listen to her and took my rest and I didn't want her to be angry. But I was going to see mother Pamela today. I'd explain to her why I had to go.
I quickly had the remaining food I had prepared in the morning. After that, I left the house and took the subway to the bus station. I boarded a bus that took me to cattagana.
I got to the orphanage and went straight to look for mama. This was the first time I was visiting since I left the orphanage, everything still looked the same.
The moment mama saw me, she was so happy and excited. She was with ma'am Gina but she left the moment she saw me.
"My dear Arie... I have missed you greatly" she said as we hugged each other.
"I have missed you too mama. I had to come and see you today"
"How are Laurie and work?"
"Laurie is good and work is fine"
"That is great to hear, come let me get you something to eat.."
"No mama.. I didn't come for you to stress over food. I came to make sure you were okay"
"That is thoughtful of you... you look good and well fed. Salamanca suites you well my Arie"
I spent the renaming day with Mama and she filled me in on everything that had happened since I left.
"It is getting late, I should get going"
"Are you not spending the night? No mama didn't plan to. I'll do that some other time"
"Okay.. that's fine and take care"
"I will and you do the same Mama"
I left back for the city and when I got home I could see the worry on their faces.
"Where have you been? Why weren't you picking up your calls? I was worried sick" Laurie asked
"Oh.. I'm sorry. Didn't hear it ring"
"That doesn't answer it. I told you to rest because you needed rest"
"I did. I'm sorry I didn't tell you I went to visit mama"
And I saw the relief on her face.
"You should have texted me"
"My bad... I'll do that next time"
"Well I spoke to my boss about you"
"What did he say?" I asked
"Well he said he'll get back to me when he has an opportunity"
"Thanks a lot, Laurie. I love you" and then we hugged.
Jean was just in a corner watching us.
"I knew you'd be fine. How was your day?"
"It was good and how was yours?"
"Tiring"
"Let me guess Mr. Edwards gave you a lot of work"
"Yeah. I had to do the receptionist and bookkeeper"
"So sorry about that". "That's fine"
We had dinner together and went to bed.
It was morning again and as usual, they left me at home. I took the advice of resting and decided to stay in all day. I got a call from Vale. I really wasn't expecting his call but then I picked up.
"Hello"
"Hi Arya"
"How are you doing?"
"I'm doing good"
"Do you mind if we do lunch today"
"Well I'm not doing anything so yeah it's fine"
"Okay thank you.. I'll text you the address"
It was not up to five minutes when I got a text saying
Miles pub no. 4 Fishie street. I'll be waiting.
At least I was not going to be all by myself the whole day. It was not a bad idea to hang out with Vale and I noticed that he liked me. Jean was right. It was only a matter of time before he mentions it.
I got dressed and went out to meet with him. I got there and met him there. He was filled with smiles the moment he saw me.
"I'm glad you could make it"
He led me over to where he sat down and drew out a chair for me. I sat down and so did he.
"What would you have?"
"Smoothie is okay"
"It's lunch Arya, smoothie is never okay"
"Okay, I'll have Som.
Vale called a waiter and they came over to our table and took our order.
After a few minutes, our food was on the table and we started eating.
"You have a very lovely voice Arya and you can make good money from it"
"Jean and Laurie think so"
"And you don't?"
"Not really... I never thought to make money with it"
"Well you should put it into consideration"
"I'm trying to look for a job that would be a distraction"
"I have spoken to my friend and he is working on it"
"That's amazing. . I'm super grateful"
"I'll let you know what he says when I speak to him"
It was nice of Vale to think of looking for a job for me and I was so happy. He was a nice young man, but aside from friendship, I would not want to pursue anything else with him.
I spent a little more time with vale and then he walked me till I got close to my street and we said our good yes and then he left.
I rushed home. Laurie was already at home, she came home a little earlier than usual.
"Why are you home so early?"
"I am having a date so I decided to come home on time so ill prepare for my date"
"Who is the lucky guy Laurie?"
"You will meet him soon. . I'll make sure of that. He had cute friends too. I'll link you up with one of them."
"Not interested."
"Why?"
"I don't want any of that now. Besides I haven't seen a guy I like"
"That can be arranged... you don't need to stress, you know I got you anytime"
Honestly, I was not interested in being in a relationship now. The guy I saw at the bar the other time came to my mind. He had such lovely eyes, I wish I could see him again, maybe up close. I wanted to be close to him. Now that was who I wanted.
It was funny how I was daydreaming about a man I have never spoken to in my life.
