Chapter Forty Nine
Mar's Pov
Caspian had to leave immediately. I didn't want him out here for long.
"I need the rest. I'll see you around Man. Do not overthink this. Just find the mole first".
And he hugged me. I was hurt that he was this sick for so long and I was just finding out today.
"I am fine don't you worry," he said
"Please don't forget to call me whenever you need me"
"I will and say hello to your woman for me," he said with a smirk on his face.
"I will do that"
"You should organize a meeting. I'd like to know what she used on you" he said and we laughed.
We said goodbye and he left. But I was wrapped up in my thoughts. I didn't want to leave immediately. I wanted to think about what he had just told me.
"Who could be the mole amongst us?"
Each one of them has shown a high level of competence and trust. Though I had my reservations about Keith, I never thought of him as a mole. He was one among us who was likely to sell his friend for money. And at this point, he was my biggest suspect.
I trusted Jade with my life, but yet anyone could be the mole and I had to find out.
"Arya!! They knew about her. How?"
I had to keep her safe from them. They might want to hurt her to get to me. I would never forgive myself if she got hurt because of me. I'd make sure she is secured at all times.
And was there a siren that I didn't know about? I had let Jade do the hunting of late because he was great at it. Now I had to go pick up my ring.
I never felt like Mera would betray me, Dole did whatever he was asked to do effectively although he kept to himself most of the time. He was calm and devoted. He didn't seem like someone who would be involved in the headquarters, since it took a lot for Jade to convince him to join us.
The siren was a rare specie and I needed to find out where it was. I'd the headquarters think I am keeping a siren then there is one around but I'm surprised why I or my people were not able to identify it on time.
My thoughts were everywhere.
"Was it possible for Jade and the rest to hide a siren from me? Maybe for the money. How was I supposed to find this mole?"
I needed to do something fast. I entered my car and drive off. On my way home, I called Jade. I needed to discuss this with him. There was no way he was the mole. That was what I wanted to believe. I called him to meet me at home.
I wanted to speak with him first before calling others. With him, finding the mole will be so much easier.
When I got to the house he was there already waiting for me. I wanted us to have privacy while discussing this. It was very sensitive and I did not want anyone listening to what we were talking about so we went over to the pool area and sat by the side.
"You sounded so serious over the phone. Hope there is no problem? And if there is why can I do to help?"
That didn't sound like someone who could betray me.
"There is a mole amongst us.. and we need to find out who it is"
"A mole.. that's not possible... how?"
"I asked the same question too. But it's not time to ask questions. We need to think of a way to find a solution"
"The thing is how do we go about it?"
"I do not have an idea but I think we need to keep an eye on the rest of the gang, and I want extra security on Arya. They have an eye on her too"
"I will do just that"
"There is a siren too. I got to find out that a siren is around us and I wonder why we were unable to identify it"
"About that.. yes there is," Jade said and I was alarmed that he knew about it and didn't bother to tell me.
"So you are the mole then" I gave him a hard punch on his face that sent him to the ground. He tried to seat up but I did not let him get up. I went over to where he was and continued punching him.
Jade tried to run away but he could not because I had a strong grip on him. I held him by the neck and hit him the more.
"No... I ... I'm" he tried to speak but the pressure I had on his neck prevented him from saying anything completely.
I pulled him by the shirt and threw him into the pool. He was trying to swim to the edge but I jumped right in after him and held his head down like I wanted to drown him. He was struggling to breathe but I was blinded by rage. He had put my life on the line and not just mine but Arya's.
I lifted his head up a little and then he spoke briefly.
"Let me explain please"
"Explain what exactly? that you betrayed me for what small change"
He tried to move away but I held him tight.
"I swear I did no such thing," he said in between breaths
"Then who did?"
"I do not know".
By this time, Arya had walked into the pool to see me fighting Jade.
"Let him go" she shouted but I was not listening to her and then she jumped into the water to stop me.
I did not notice it until she started drowning. I left Jade immediately and went over to save her.
I had no idea she didn't know how to swim. I went over to her and carried her out of the pool immediately. She was already gasping for breath because of the water she had taken in.
