Chapter Twenty Eight

After everything that is happening with Vale, I didn't want to start with the thought that Mar liked me or locked at me in a certain way.

Jade had told me about vale and his feelings for me and now I was trying my possible best to avoid him just so I can protect myself.


The possibility of Mar liking me was very slim and o perceived he was only helping me out of pity and I wouldn't want these thoughts to linger for long in my head so I don't hurt myself.

A knock came on the door and I went to get it. Laurie was so engrossed in the show she was watching.

"Hi Jade"

"Hi, Arya. Mar wants to speak with you?"


"Is there any problem?"

"No, not at all. He just wants to peak with you"

"Where is he then?"


"He is on the balcony"


"If you don't mind can you direct me to the balcony?"

"Sure, take the first turn by your left and walk straight, you'll find the balcony"

"Thank you... I'll go meet him at once"

"What about Laurie?"

"She's inside."

"I'll speak with her briefly while you are away"

"She will love it," I said with a smile on my face.

Then I went off in search of the balcony. I took the directions Jade had given me and in no time I got to the balcony. It wasn't so difficult to find it.

And there he was, in all his glory. I could see the hard broad shoulders. I thought of what it would feel like to be wrapped around in his arms.  I wanted to touch him and feel his skin against mine.

"What is wrong with you Arya," I said to myself.

He had been in my dreams several times and I wanted a repeat of all that happened in my dreams.


Mar coughs.

I was startled by that and that was when I realized he had caught me staring at him.

"When you are done staring you can come over and seat down"

I was so embarrassed.


"How rude of him?"

"What did he think of himself? A Greek god?"

But he was right to feel that way, he could actually be mistaken for one.

I quietly walked over to the empty seat beside him. I was glad that the position of the seat, it was not so close to him and it was not directly in front of him, so he doesn't get to see my every move.

"That man is pretty much obsessed with you why?"

"I have no idea"

"He will do anything to be with you and why are you denying him that?"

The question put me off. "How could he be asking me to be with such a monster?"

"I don't want him around me"

"The question is why?"

"He wants to make money off me. I mean from my sweat, he is going to turn me to his slave and he goes ahead to say he loves me"


"What if he does?"

"I do not believe that such a human is capable of love"

He didn't seem to be convinced by my explanation. "Was he always like this?"


"You don't believe me?"

"No, I don't"

"You know what, I don't care if you do but I'll ask you this question and I want you to answer it honestly"


"Would you let another man treat your sister that way?"

And then his countenance changed. I had gotten his attention but I was confused when he shouted at me.

"Never in your life ask me such questions. Now get out of my sight"


I wanted to ask why he was so upset but he didn't let me finish.

"Leave this minute" and I left quickly back to my room.

I met Laurie still engrossed in her show.

"Where did you go to?"

"Went to speak with Mar. thought jade would have told you that"


"Well, he didn't. So what is he calling you for?" Laurie asked anxiously


"He wanted to know what was going on between me and Vale"

"I knew it"


"Knew what exactly?  That man is rude and I can't stand him"

"That's love, my friend"

"Stop it. As a matter of fact, we are leaving here first thing tomorrow morning"



"I don't think that is a good idea, Arya.. vale is still out there waiting for you"

"I don't care, and you have a job you need to go back to"

"Well I'm on a short leave"

"And you didn't mention"

"The opportunity to do so didn't present itself"

"Well, it doesn't change anything. We are going back home tomorrow"

And she lay in bed. "Just sleep you'll feel better by tomorrow trust me," she said patting the bed.



"Why did he get angry?"

He was just a weird and rude person and at this point, I didn't feel comfortable here anymore. And by tomorrow I'll be out of here. Now that I had lost my job, I needed to find a new one. I joined Laurie in bed who was already asleep and tried to sleep but it wasn't forth coming.

I wanted water and so I decided to leave the room. I went downstairs to the kitchen to get water.

I was just done taking water when Mar came in. I was not expecting to see him soon, especially after the outburst he had earlier.

"I'm sorry didn't mean to come here unsupervised I just needed water"


"It's nothing"


"Thank you," I said and made my way to leave the kitchen.

"Can't sleep?" He asked and then I paused

"Yeah.. what about you?"

"Yeah.. having difficulty sleeping."


"Oh..."

"I shouldn't have yelled at you earlier. I apologize for that"

"I apologize too for getting you upset"

"I just wanted to know what really happened between you both"

"Vale got me a job at Latitude company when I lost my job at the bookshop because of my boss who was trying to take advantage of me and now he is trying to do the exact same thing to me"

"He forced my signature on some documents  and he wants me to sing at his bar and the money made will be his"


I gave him a detailed explanation of what happened between vale and me. From his reactions, he seemed to have understood this time. I noticed how he'd access me and act like he had his eyes elsewhere.

I was not going to be deceived by all of this sweetness. I had learned enough.


"I feel sleepy now"

"Oh...  good night then"

"Good night," Mar said

And then I went up to the room and within seconds I fell asleep.
