Chapter Fifty Three

It was a penthouse. Mar's penthouse.

Again the gates closed immediately. Mera stopped the car and came over to help me out of the car.

I was still in uncertain.

"You are protected now, Arya"

Jade and Mar drive into the compound and then he rushed over to my side instantly.

"Did they hurt you?"

"No, they didn't. They chased after us. I was so frightened"


"Logan is getting on my nerves"

"Who is that?" I asked

"Don't bother your head about him, I'll explain it to you later let's go inside"


We all went into the house. It was a lot different from the other house. Mar took me up to the room and laid me in bed.

He left for some minutes and came back with a cold glass of water. Like he was in my mind, my throat was dry from shouting.

"Can you recall there faces a baby"

"Yes.. but the hood they were putting on will make it a little difficult"

"It's okay my love. I want you to know that I'll do anything just to keep you safe"

I nodded in agreement. I believed him when he said that. He had shown me how true his words are.

He had defended and protected me for the past 7 months. And in these months he had won my heart. He was mine and I was his in all meaning of the word.


"I want you to stay indoors for a while. For our safety. The headquarters will not rest until they have me out of the way and they will stop at nothing to do that if that implies harming you and I can't take it."

"I will do as you've said but I need you by my side too"

"I'm right here my love"

"I adore you"

"I adore you too"

And he smooched me intensely like he wanted to seal the word.

"I have to go and figure out how to secure everyone. Mera will keep you company."
Then his phone rang and he picked it up. His expression altered and then the call ended.


"What is it?"

But he kept mute.

"Answer me what is the problem?"


"where is Laurie?"


"She maintained staying behind at the beach"

"What!?"

Mar rushed out of the room and I followed behind him.

"Jade! Jade!"

And Jade replied

"We need to get to the beach this minute"

"What is the matter Mar?"

"Mera take care of her and don't let her leave this room. You get it?" He ordered

"Yes, boss" Mera answered.


"What is going on? Can you explain why he left that way?"

"I think it is an emergency. He will be back"

I became so afraid. "What did the caller say?"

"What could have happened to Laurie.?"

I was restless, I kept striding from one need of the room to the other.

"Can you at least sit down?" Mera asked

I completely ignored her and picked up my phone and dialed Mar's number but there was no answer.

I called Laurie's phone but there was no response. That intensified my suspicion the more.

After several hours, I heard Mar's car drive-in and I rushed down to meet them and I saw his face. He was not looking happy at all.

I was anticipating seeing Laurie with them but she was not anywhere around.


"Where is Laurie?" I asked

Jade tried to his face but I didn't let him. I went over to him and turned his face with my hands.

"Where is my friend?" I shouted and then Mar came over and carried me but I kept kicking and shouting.

He managed to take me up to the room. And laid me down but I refused. I stood up immediately.

"Why are you not talking? Where is Laurie"


"Laurie... Laurie.."

He didn't finish his sentence. I was becoming too worried

"Speak up... tell me where Laurie is"


"Laurie is dead"


"That's a lie... Laurie can't be dead"


"We found her by the turn heading to your old apartment"


"Noo..... this can't be... Laurie no"

I cried. He tried to console me but I refused comfort. He held me while I cried.


Laurie my bestie and sister. She had been there through thick and thin and now she was gone. For what exactly.


"Who could have killed her?"

"I still have that under investigation. But I think it is the headquarters. They must have seen all of us together at the beach and this was a way of warning me"


"Why Laurie?" I asked as the tears kept flowing down my cheeks.

"Please calm down my sweetheart. I'll make sure they all pay"

I cried till I and no energy left in me. I had absolutely no idea how I slept off.


Mar served dinner and while we ate I noticed he glanced at me.

"I can see you," I said

"Let's leave town"

I looked at him and then went back to eating my food.

"It will help if we did this... and it will give me an opportunity to find Laurie's killers"

"I don't think so besides how safe do you think that is?"

"I know it is.. just say yes"

I looked at him and I knew he wanted this not just for himself but also for me too.



"If you say so. Then I'm in"


"Just you and I this time"


I agreed and we planned a trip. The next morning the jet came docked at the roof top of his penthouse and then we took off.

We went to Gaziba. It was a very beautiful and serene island. I learned a lot about it when I was still at the orphanage.


Though I was in a mourning mood. I was appreciative of this place he had brought me to. It was indeed beautiful. Pictures didn't do it any justice.

Mar had booked us an apartment close to the sea and it was so gorgeous. The view especially from the room.

I felt Mar come behind me and then he held me so close to him to him.

He dropped a peck on my forehead and on my neck too.

"I know losing your best friend is unbearable trust me I've suffered worse but I want you to be happy. And I'll do anything to make you happy"

"Because I love you very much."

"I love you too"

I wanted to get my mind if my pain and he was the only one capable of helping me. I went over to him and gave him a tight hug and he returned it. I went on my toes so I could reach him and dropped a light kiss on his lips.
