Chapter Seventy Six

Mar's Pov

I woke up early and drove straight to the orphanage, it was not difficult to find it. I just had to deal with the bumpy and rough road.

I finally got to the orphanage. I walked through the front door but did not see anyone. I tried calling the number ma'am Gina had given to me but it was not reachable.

There was no way I was driving back to the city without getting any information. I was going to wait for her till she got back.

I walked out to the front door and fortunately for me, there was a seat by the front. I sat down and went through my phone. Mr. Erick did not fail to remind me to fix a date. He was bent on showing me gratitude for accepting to partner with his establishment and so far there has been an improvement.

Mera had given me updates in the company on the company at any chance she got while persuading me to eat. I was seated out there for a while when two little kids came running toward me.

"Hello, mister," one of them said and I replied

"Hi, little one"

"Are you here to take us home?" one of them asked.

"My name is Tinie and he is Jack. What is your name?"

"My name is Mar"

"Mar are you here to take us home," Tinie asked again.

I did not know what to say and so I nodded

"Yayy!" they both shouted. They were so excited

"But not today" and their faces changed immediately

"When would that be," Jack asked

"Soon but in the meantime, you both should have this" I handed to them a 100-dollar bill and they were both excited.

I could see how they both desperately wanted to leave here and I wondered if that was the way Arya felt while she was growing up. She must have been through a whole lot.

And looking at this place, it would not be a bad idea if I invested in a place like this. At least to help because the living condition here was terrible.

I was still chatting and playing with Tinie and Jack when ma'am Gina came in. She came over to where we were

"I'm so sorry for keeping you waiting," she said and the kids ran away.

I was surprised at how Tinie and Jack had run inside the moment they saw ma'am Gina, she must be a strict one.

"That is fine, you said you have information" I reminded her.

She pulled me to a different building from the one I had walked into the first time.

We got to a part of the compound that looked hidden. And she made seats available. We sat down and she offered to get me something but I declined. I was here for a lead and not to be entertained.

"The information you have on Arya."

"That is a very long story." That girl is a strange child and has a lot of bad omens surrounding her.

"Why do you say that?"

" I had always believed her to be strange and she seemed different to me." And she began to tell me the reason.

Arya was brought in by a blind woman. And that day it rained cats and dogs with a loud thunderstorm. There was a knock on the door and there stood a blind woman with a child in her arms. I asked her to come inside but she did not want to. I called mother Pamela and the woman handed the child over to her and left under the rain.

I tried to carry the child and she cried so hard. I noticed scales on her body and that scared me so much. Mother Pamela seemed to be her choice, she never smiled at me. Each time I touched her I got frightened.  And whenever she cried it came with thunder and lightning. She would stop crying the moment mother Pamela would carry her. Everyone seemed to like her but I didn't. I have always been indifferent to her and I made sure it stayed that way. She was so strange to me and I find everything about her creepy.

After hearing all of it, I just felt ma'am Gina was overthinking it all.

"It was just your thought ma'am," I said to her.

"No, it is something more, she cried mostly at night and had everyone else wrapped around her finger. She acted really strange and so after that encounter I tried to avoid her at all cost," she said.

I was already getting pissed. I felt like I had come all the way down to this place to listen to her thoughts and speculations. She must have noticed my displeasure from the way I changed my face, then she said.

"I know how you can get Arya to come back." She said

"I'm listening."

"Mother Pamela is the solution."

"How?" I asked.

"If Arya knows mother Pamela is in any sort of danger she would return immediately"

I wanted to tell her Arya did not run away but there was no need for that. I thanked ma'am Gina for the information and went back to my car.

I thought of what she said and decided to give it a try and so I sent another message to Arya and hoped she was going to respond this time.

Hey Arya this is Mar, mother Pamela has just been involved in an accident and has been rushed to memorial hospital. I thought you should know. Love Mar.

After sending the text I drove back to the city, I went to the office to check up on the ongoing projects we had and I was impressed at how Mera had managed without me. She had made sure everyone was handling their part properly: I was thinking of a raise for her and Jade.

There had not been a signal of the siren Caspian had mentioned. I was beginning to doubt it was ever around. Jade too could have been wrong.

I waited for a response from Arya. Then I called the doctor to set an appointment for the next day. I went home and moved to the bar and had some drinks. Then I went back to my room and took a rest.
