Chapter Seventeen

I woke up feeling really excited. My mornings had been exciting these past few days but today was much more exciting than the rest.

I was starting a new job today.  I went to take a hot shower and after that had breakfast.

Laurie had been up earlier than now and had been sweet enough to make breakfast for me.

I ate my breakfast gently. I was to start work by 8 am. It was still 5 am. Laurie presented a beautiful polka dot top and a plain back skirt with black heels for me to wear to work on my first day.

"You know I can't wear heels"

"There is always a first-time bestie"

After many arguments, she allowed me to put on flats. She packed my hair up in a tight bun.

I took my handbag and off I went to work.
I came out of the house and stopped at a taxi. It took me 20 minutes to get there and it was already 7: 30 am. I was very early, but I could still see some staff coming in.

I walked into the reception but there was no Rosie in sight and so I sat down at the reception waiting for her to show up.

Rosie came in a few minutes later. She had a huge smile on her face the moment she saw me.

"Hey Arya... you came so early. That's a wonderful start. Come over"

"Good morning Rosie you look beautiful"

"Good morning you look beautiful too"

"Thank you, Rosie"

Rosie was a young woman but would be older than me by a few years. The wedding band on her finger indicated that she was married. She was so nice and cheerful.


"Here is your space," she said pointing to a table and chair beside hers.


I walked over and sat down. Rosie come over with some files and asked me to go through them.


"I'll explain all of them to you later, but dear my attention to anything that is giving you a thought time to understand"


"I will.  Thank you"

Rosie goes back to her desk and takes her seat while I concentrated on the files in front of me.

They were quite easy to understand and within an hour I was done with the files. I packed them up and sent them back to Rosie.

"Are you done already?"

"Yes I am"

"Do you need any explanations?"

"Not really, they were all self-explanatory. Is there anything you'll like me to do"

"Yes... here are the remaking files but this time you have to separate them based on their dates"

She handed the folders to me and I went back and concentrated on the work. I preferred this to the bookshop. I had to deal with a lot of grumpy and entitled customers from time to time but here I had to do just paperwork. Paperwork could be stressful but I preferred it.

It was time for lunch break already and I hadn't finished the second set of folders Rosie had given me but I was hungry.


Rosie came over to invite me out for lunch break.

"Like you knew I was as hungry"

"Oh really? Let's go before it gets crowded"


Rosie and I want to the restaurant right opposite the company.

"Most of the workers come here to have lunch"

A few minutes after we had gotten what we wanted, I noticed some other people coming in.

"Hey" Rosie greeted as she waved at a lady.

The lady came over to where we were seated and she introduced herself to me.

"Arya this is Martha she works in the accounts department and Martha, Arya the new staff"

"Welcome Arya.. hope you're enjoining your first day"

"Yes I  am thank you"

She chatted with Rosie for a while and then left. There were a couple of the other staffs Rosie introduced me to some I can't even remember their names.

The time for our lunch break was finally over and so we went back to the office.

I spent the remaining hours sorting the folders. While Rosie entertained the visitors.

I couldn't finish the folders and I asked Rosie if it was okay for me to complete them tomorrow and she approved of it.

She promised to teach me how to transfer calls to other departments in the company as that was part of my job description.


Our work hours had finally ended and we were leaving. On my way out of the office, I got a call from the vale.

He wanted us to meet up before I went home. We agreed to meet at our usual spot.

Since the first time, I saw him at fishie's pub that had been our spot.
I went over to meet up with him.

"Hope I didn't keep you waiting?"

"No. Just got here"

"That's good. How was your day?"


"It was good"

"How was your first day at work?"

"It was nice and Rosie was super helpful. I got to meet some other staff at the office. I want to say Thank you again."


"Come on, you've said that a million times and it's okay"

"Have you thought about the stuff with talked about the last time?"


"Please remind me I've had a little on my mind lately and I can't remember"

"About the singing. What is your answer regarding that?"

"I haven't thought much about it, but I promise to give you a feedback soon"


"Okay that's fine I'll be expecting your response"


We chilled out for a while and then I went back home.

I was the first to get home and so I made dinner then I called Jean to know what was happening.

The phone rang twice but there was no response and so I called again, this time she picked up.

"Hello, Arya how are you?"

"I'm good how are you and how's your family?"


"Mum isn't been feeling too good and as a matter of fact she's in the hospital."


"So sorry about that"

"Thank you. How was your first day at work? Hope it wasn't stressful?"


"It was good and stress-free. Please take care of yourself and don't fail to call me if you need my help"

"Yeah I will and I won't be coming back soon. Do take care of yourself and my regards to Laurie"

"I'll do just that" and then I ended the call.


I was wondering how she was feeling at this point was it as worse as not knowing your parents at all.
I would find them and I'd ask them why they let me go. I'd want to know why I was denied their love and affection.
