I hummed happily as I filled out Eden’s order. I was more than ready to go meet up with Leah, but I had a few things to do before I could. After four days of spending the nights at my office, Leah had opted to go home, having been roped into a girls’ night with Doc and Rosemary, who took every possible joy in rubbing it in my face that they were practically kidnapping her for the night. I had done as she asked, and shut the cameras off in her house so she could have privacy. I hated that she asked, but I also knew that if I didn’t, it would make her think that I was trying to control her, and I never wanted her to feel that way, so I shut them off.

I was just counting down the seconds until I was allowed to go to her house. Noon was definitely not coming fast enough, but that was okay. Having to wait gave my personal order time to arrive. I bought us more condoms along with some lube to help with the frequency of our lovemaking. “IS THAT R. H. M.?!” Rosemary yelled from the living room when Leah opened the door, making her giggle.

“YES!” She screamed back before stepping to the side to let me in.

“I hope I’m not interrupting,” I said as I followed Leah into the living room.

“You are, but it’s okay. Phoenix was counting down the seconds until she could go back to you,” Doc teased as she linked her arm with Rosemary’s. “Come on, Rose. I’ll walk you home.”

They stopped beside Leah to give her hugs before skipping out of the house. As soon as the door clicked shut, I pulled her into my arms.

“I am so happy right now,” I told her. “I missed you all night and just having you in my arms again is enough to make all the stress of the night go away. And now that I told you how I feel, I’m going to kiss you now, and I hope that you kiss me back.”

She wrapped her arms around my neck. “So, kiss me already.”

“I’m just making sure you don’t!”

I handed her the box before turning to start the water, taking special care to make sure it wasn’t too hot or too cold. “Can you open the box while I get your water situated?”

“Of course!”

After finding the perfect temperature for her, I got up to grab a washcloth for her, pausing when I saw her staring down at the 100 count box of condoms and liter of lube. I burst out laughing when she raised her panicked eyes to mine.

“Don’t you think this is too much?”
“Not with the way we’ve been making love. Don’t worry so much, Leah. I am not expecting to use them all today, tomorrow, or even in the next month. I just want to make sure that if we do keep making love like we have been, that we are prepared.” I reached up to rub the back of my neck. “I can’t help it. I am so enamored with you.” I leaned over to pull the small bottle of oil out, holding it up to her. “This is what I bought for you. Ramira said that it helped Maddie when her and Joey first started being intimate.”

Her mouth dropped open as she paled. “You told her that we were being intimate?”

“What?! No! I told her that one of the women in the community requested a product to help them, but I wasn’t sure what to get, and since she was a woman, I thought she would know. I did not tell her it was you.”

She eyed me for a moment before nodding. “Alright. I guess I’ll let that be okay.”

I grabbed the wash cloth along with the bottle of oil before going back over to the tub to pour some of the solution into it. When I turned around, my breath whooshed out when I saw she was already naked.

“Leah,” I whispered. “You are so beautiful!”

She blushed as she shifted nervously. “Do you want to bathe with me?”

“Yes!” I told her already starting to pull my clothes off.

I got in the large tub first before helping her into it, and having her lean back against my chest while I started to rub her down. I kissed her neck.

“Mhmmm, Brennan?” She answered.

“What’s a fear that you have about our relationship that you haven’t told me about yet?” I asked.

She sighed. “Ah. Question 10 on Ramira’s list of hard questions. I suppose my biggest fear would be you having someone else while you’re still with me. It would devastate me. I know I shouldn’t bring my baggage from my marriage into our relationship, but I can’t help it. It’s such a fresh wound still, and I’m sorry that I worry about that. I especially worry when you leave Eden without me and I can’t contact you. It makes my chest hurt and I want to cry.”

I wrapped my arms around her waist, cradling her against my body. “What can I do to make you comfortable when I leave Eden? Do you want to go with me? Or if you don’t want to go with me, do you want me to get you a phone so you can call me anytime you are worried or anxious?”

She tilted her head back so she could look into my eyes. “You would get me a phone to contact you?”

“Yes, baby. I will do whatever you need me to do to help you. All you have to do is tell me.”

“Oh, Brennan,” she whispered. “You are so good to me.”

I lowered my head to kiss her softly. “I will always take your feelings into account.”

“I’ll think about it and let you know what I think about it later on. Is that okay?”

“Of course, princess.”

She shifted so that she was straddling my lap. “And what about you? Do you have a fear that you haven’t told me about?’

I nodded. “I worry that one day, you’re going to ask me to express something verbally that I won’t be able to, and I’m terrified that it’s going to be the end of us. I don’t want that to happen, but it’s what I worry about.”

She kissed me softly before wrapping her arms around my shoulders. “You’re not going to lose me over not being able to say something out loud. I’m starting to be able to read your emotions through things you do for me. Only someone who really cares about someone else will do the things you do for me.” She brushed her fingers over my hair. “You are a dream come true, Brennan. You are more than I ever thought I would have. I just had to learn how to understand you.”

I searched her face for a moment before asking, “Do you understand me, Leah?”

She smiled widely at me. “I think I’m starting to. Even if I am wrong about what I think I know, I won’t stop trying.”

I tucked her face into my neck, not wanting her to see the strength of emotion in my eyes. “Thank you, Leah.”

She kissed the side of my neck. “Don’t thank me, Brennan. Just be present with me and we’ll be okay.”

“Yes, baby, we will be.”

And we would. I would make sure of it. She was everything that I ever wanted. Even more importantly, she was everything that I never knew I wanted. She was everything that I wanted Diadra to be. I sighed heavily, making her squeeze me a little.

“What’s wrong?” She asked softly.

I ran my hands down her back until I could rest them on her ass. “You’re not the only one bringing past relationship baggage into this one.”

“I know, Brennan. Just don’t let it destroy us,” she murmured.
“Never,” I promised. “I will always want you.”
