Chapter 230

Caleb's POV

I feel terrible about leaving Davyna and leading her to get so angry that she hurt herself. Why does this have to be so hard? Vincent and I, we just want to be with her, make her happy, make her feel good, accepted. It's insane to think that just months ago, I was still reeling from my incident. Now I've finally had some life knocked back into me, and it's just as complicated.

She's worth it. She's my mate. I'm just getting impatient. Doesn't help that Kaius is dying to meet her. I can only assume he would terrify her right now though. I was actually quite surprised when I was trying to maintain control earlier, that she didn't bolt then. When she looked me straight in the eyes and held my face, I felt such an inner peace that I thought was lost.

I hear Vincent sigh and switch my attention back to the task at hand.

"Where should we start?" I ask vincent as we get to the central area of the archive building. It's on the opposite side of the compound from the living quarters, but it's only one large room with one upper level. Dark wooden bookshelves line every single wall, floor to ceiling, with small areas of seating dotted around for reading. Smaller shelves are arranged in a partial circle on the main floor, lined around the only large seating area in the centre of the entire room. Steel stairs are on either side at the

back of the room to access the upper level.

Documents and books from here are not to be taken out per the Council rules, so anything we find we need to either try to remember or take reference pictures or notes Vincent finally answers me after some thought.

"Let's research mate bonds first, then look into species abnormalities. From about Davyna being adopted, it's likely she may not be human."

"Alright. I' look for mate bond material, where should I go?"

"Back of the room, left side on this level!"

Of course he would know where to go. Such a bookworm vampire. I

head over and scan the book titles, left to right, shelf by shelf. One catches my eye.

"History of mate bonds, let's grab that one." I say to myself and pull it from the shelf. I don't see any other ones that could

give me the information I'm looking for, so l head back to that seating area and plop my ass down on a chair.

There has been only one instance ever recorded of there being a

multiple mate bond. It dates back to the early 12th century, between two vampires and a human. It was suspected that one vampire had used his talents to brainwash the human in believing there were two mates.

Unfortunately, it could never be proven or disproven due to the human taking their life shortly after accepting the bonds. It was again suspected that the emotional turmoil of both bonds, drove the human crazy and led to suicide, but could not be confirmed."

Damn, I close the book and rub my eyes.

Our instance is different, isn't it? We identified the bonds before Davyna even recognized we had an effect on her, plus we had never met her before she came to the Hollow. So there's no way she could have been influenced to feel a second bond. Finally, there's the fact that I'm a werewolf and Vincent is a vampire. It's different species, I take a picture of the entry to reference later, and place the book on the table in front of me Vincent comes back with three large books in his arm and places them

on that same table.

"Find anything?" He asks me. I show him the entry I found and he quickly skims over it. He furrows his brows as he reads.

"It's true to some extent. I mean Davyna has been getting more and more unstable as the bonds grow. I doubt she would get to the point of suicide, but we still want to avoid that."

"Well, yeah." I pause.

"Did you find anything?"

Vincent ties his hair back, signaling it's serious discussion time. He clears his throat.

"l did. Each of these books are about race abnormalities in some way or form. There were instances recorded in this first book here," He points to the first book on the pile.

"of there being a remote village that consisted entirely of...hybrids"

"Hybrids?

"Yes, hybrids that were part vampire. and part werewolf. It stated that these hybrids came about from a result of cross breeding between an Alpha wolf and a pure blooded vampire.!" l look at him wide eyed. What the fuck?

He continues.

"The hybrid village assisted in the first major war between

our species. Though it doesn't say which side. Apparently hybrids

inherit traits and abilities from both sides of the species, but it varied per person. Some could shift into a wolf like you, some couldn't but still had the strength. Some pulled more traits from the vampire side, with intense speed and mind control capabilities. There's not much more on that as it was quite a rare occurrence for hybrids to be identified or studied due to some ability to blend in among the different species." It's

an ability to make a vampire or werewolves genes dormant. It was used in extreme cases when a vampire or werewolf were a danger to their pack or clan, either due to losing control of their mind or having thybrid village."

"It still exists?" I question. He holds up a finger and points to the last book

"The last thing that caught my eye in the third book was about old wars and locations. It's suspected that the hybrid village still exists, but no one has been able to locate it since the initial first war between our species. It's possible they rotate locations as to not be discovered!" I try to wrap my head around all of this.

"So, are you saying she could be a hybrid from this village?"

"It's the only thing that fits, Caleb. One mate from each species, but she appears to be human, I suspect that her abilities may have been made dormant to protect her. If she isn't Matthias' daughter like Sage said, then it's likely she was dropped off to him and his wife as a baby, already been made dormant."

"I wonder if that's why her emotions are starting to rage out of control." I state

Vincent runs his head point. It's possible.

"If she's been dormant this long, the mate bonds hand over the top of his head and scratches it."

"Good between us three might be causing some issues on that front. She wants to respond to the bonds but the dormancy restricts her from doing so, or feeling it enough to identify what it is. This is a tricky situation."

"Does it say how to reverse her dormancy?" Vincent shakes his head.

"No, I didn't see anything on how to reverse it. We'll have to put our heads together and try to figure it out ourselves."

Vincent's phone blips and he picks it up, reading the text on screen.
