Chapter 268

Davyna's POV

"Ouch I say out loud as a branch scrapes my arm as I traverse

through the thick woods at the back of Caleb's house. My t-shirt

isn't doing much of a job protecting my bare arms, but at least my

jeans are covering my legs. Birds are chirping, and the sunlight is

trying to peek through the massive bushels of leaves on the trees

above me. I've been so stirred up since seeing those eyes last night, so I decided to come out and see if l could find any trace of who it was. I've found a few snapped branches in the area, but nothing definitive. No scent, no garbage, or any type of trace that someone was there. I know what I saw though. I didn't imagine them, did 1?

I stop as I hear Caleb yelling for me, his voice getting louder as he comes closer to my position.

"Mate is calling for you Freya chimes in"

"Davyna! You out here?" I step out of the tree line, and I'm greeted with a smile from Caleb.

"I'm here"

"What are you doing?" He asks, and I'm compelled to not tell him, considering, I have no idea of what or who remember his words from yesterday and I blurt it out.

"I saw a set of eyes out here last night. Hybrid eyes" Caleb's striking blue eyes widen at my words in complete disbelief.

"You saw what?" He asks, clearly confused.

"Hybrid eyes. White and silver. I swear I saw them. I came out last

night to get some air, hoping I would be able to settle for bed and I sensed something in this exact spot. I didn't see anything at first, but then I sensed it again and saw those eyes. The exact eyes that Vincent said you both saw on me before."

"Any trace of anyone?" I shake my head.

"No. I've been out here for an hour, and aside from some broken branches, there's nothing here. I swear I saw something. I'm not crazy" I hear the panic rising in my voice, and sigh as Caleb approaches me and pulls me into him, wrapping his arms around me as he hugs me lightly. you, baby. If we cant find any evidence, then we will just have to keep our minds open and eyes peeled to see if we notice them again.

I nod into his chest and look up and he pecks me on the lips.

"Vincent is coming by this evening before we leave to head back

with us. We're taking Asher's threat seriously, so we both want to be there when you walk through those doors at the Hollow"

"Okay. That eases my worries a bit. I cant help but think the worst"

"Both Vincent and I will not let anything happen to you. Plus you're a wolf and a vampire now. You can defend yourself if you need to. Don't hesitate."

"I don't want to hurt anyone.." I trail off and lower my gaze. Caleb grabs my chin and makes me look at him again.

"Don't. Hesitate. If you're alone, you need to defend yourself, okay?" I nod.

"Okay" Suddenly, l feel incredibly tired. I yawn and Caleb takes my hand and we start to walk back to the house.

"Tired? Sorry if I took a lot out of you last night when we." I cut him off.

"No, it's not that. Last night was lovely. I've just been feeling a bit off since we awakened Freya, that's all. Honestly, I think it's just fatigue from adjusting to the new awakened sides of me"

"You could be onto something there, baby. It's definitely been a big change for you."

We reach the back porch, and Caleb opens the back door for me

and I walk in, him close behind.

"You can go rest if you need to, I have to go do a few things to prepare for us leaving tonight."

I stretch my arms over my head. Yeah, I think I will go lay down for a bit. If I'm not awake after you're done, just nudge me okay? "l'd like to take a walk around the packlands before we go"

You got it, baby He kisses my forehead and follows me upstairs and I sigh in protest, but I give in when he pulls back the covers in

the bedroom and motions for me to get in. I climb in and he covers

me up, tucking me in lightly.

"Rest well, I'll see you in a little while." I nod and yawn again, and smile as Caleb gives me a small kiss. Darkness overtakes the room as Caleb closes the doors, and I can hardly keep my eyes open. I give in to the heaviness of my eyes and close them, hoping for a good sleep.

Caleb's POV

I sigh as I walk out of my office upstairs at the packhouse, having

just gone through the massive list of items with Michael, making

sure to take note of things my father will have to deal with

immediately upon his return. Honestly, it's exhausting work. There

has been no sign of Renee since she went rogue, and I gave her

father permission to search for her beyond the pack borders. I am

worried, but only in the sense that rogue wolves are not the most

welcoming, especially the ones who have been out there the

longest.

There are 5 rogue 'packs" in the areas around the Hollow, and they

have maintained contact with the Alpha's near them just in case of

any misunderstandings, but they mostly keep to themselves. I can

only hope that Renee was taken in by a rogue pack and can live out

her life peacefully. As much as I hate what she did to me; and how it fucked me up, I don't wish a rogue's life on any wolf.

I crack my neck as I head down to the kitchen area to inform my

grandmother that Davyna and I are leaving this evening, and she

kindly gave me another basket of goodies to take back with us. I

make a mental note to ask Davyna to come say goodbye to her.

They hit it off really well, and that makes me incredibly happy.

Overall our visit to my home went far better then I could have

imagined. My pack loves her, they love us together and it really

eases much of my worries when I have to take over from my father.

I inhale deeply as I walk out front of the pack house, and head to the guard station. A few of the warrior wolves acknowledge me as I

pass and stepping into the station, I inform the head warrior that

Vincent will be coming this evening and to allow him onto the

packlands. He nods and makes note of my request and I take my

leave

"Finally done" I say to myself as l emerge back outside.

"Go check on our mate. We've been gone too long" Kaius tells me,

and I can't help but agree. It's only been a few hours since we left as I reach the top of the stairs, I hear a loud scream coming from the bedroom and I burst in, only to see Davyna still laying in the bed, but she's twisting, tossing and turning all over the place. I go over to the bed and sit beside her and pull her into my arms. I feel her stir and her heart racing wildly as she fully wakes up.

"You okay?" l ask, rubbing her back as her breathing becomes more

even and steady.

"Yeah just a nightmare" She wraps her arms around my neck and

we stay like that for a period of time, until she's fully settled "Want to go for that walk?" She nods.

"Okay, let's bring our bags downstairs and then we can head out"

Davyna climbs off of me and rushes over to her bags.

"I can carry them myself: I laugh as she stands there with her arms

crossed, her hair disheveled from her uneasy sleep. She huffs when

I don't reply. "I mean it, Caleb. I'm not some damsel in distress. I can carry my own bags. I stand and walk over to her and I grab her smallest bag and place it in her hands with a light thump.

You can carry that one! I say and she tosses it at me. I catch it and she slaps me playfully on the arm.

"You're lucky you're good to look at" She says and I can't help but chuckle.

"Fine, take whatever ones you want, miss independent" She snickers at my statement, and grabs one of her larger bags and kisses me lightly before walking out the bedroom.

We get all of our things together downstairs, and the sun is just

starting to set as we step outside. Davyna grabs my hand and

squeezes it, and we start our last walk here at my home.

Davyna's POV

I admire the setting sun and the beautiful colours of the sky as I

walk with Caleb, hand-in-hand. We went and said goodbye to Caleb's grandmother and a few of the other back me is that were at the packhouse, and then headed out for our walk. We started past the lake, and now we are close to the tree line on the right side of Caleb's family home, just walking slowly, taking everything in.

"So, did you enjoy your time here?" Caleb asks me, and I'll look at him and nod.

"I loved it here. Seeing how your pack is, how they work together and treat each other was humbling. I'm happy to have

been here to see where you came from."

Caleb smiles at me widely.

"That makes me really happy to hear you enjoyed yourself.: I feel like l understand you so much more, and same goes for Vincent. You both come from such different worlds. These past two weeks have been nothing short of amazing."

We walk a little bit longer in comfortable silence as I reflect on my time. I mean, it sucked that there were some bumps in the road, but as uncomfortable as it was, I feel that Caleb, Vincent and I are so much closer. We've come out the other end of arguments and odd situations and I can honestly say I trust them with my life

completely. As they defend me, I will defend them. My mates, the men I have fallen in love with. Caleb brings me out of my reflection.

"Just got word that Vincent has arrived. Let's go meet him near the packhouse."

"Yes, lets I say and as we make our way to the packhouse", I see a

limo out front, a figure with the oh so familiar blond hair blowing i the slight wind. As we approach, Vincent turns around and I'm met with such a breathtaking smile from him. let go of Caleb's hand and run into his arms.

"Hello, love!" He says and I melt.

"Hello, love" He says and I melt.

"I missed you" I say, muffled into his chest and chuckles,

"I missed you too. Ready to go home?"

"You bet" I reply with a smile.

"But wait, I've gotta show you Freya."

"Your wolf?" He says and I nod excitedly.

"Take it easy, baby" Caleb laughs as he goes to stand beside Vincent, them hugging and patting each other on the back.

"Good to see you." You too, Caleb. Okay, love. Care to show me your wolf?' I nod and back up as Caleb stands in front of me. "She likes to show off. Caleb shakes his head and laces his hands together and nods at me. I take off on a sprint and leap, Caleb catching my feet and throwing me upwards with his strength. I push back into an and just as easy as the first time, I shift and land on all fours.

As l let Freya take over,I watch as she approaches Vincent and

nuzzles into him. He casually pets her, his eyes showing pure

excitement.

"Freya is it? You are one beautiful wolf. It's wonderful to meet you finally" Vincent says to Freya and she huffs and licks his

hands.

"Our other mate is beautiful Davyna" I hear her say to me, and I can't help but feel proud that Freya feels just as I do. She nuzzles into Caleb and then allows me to take back control, and Caleb takes off his shirt and pulls it over my naked frame.

"Oops. Damnit!" I keep forgetting about my clothes. Caleb and

Vincent burst out laughing.

Let's get back to the house so you can get changed, and we can

pack up and get out of here! Caleb says as he tries to compose

himself. After I've changed back at the house into some fitted sweats and a tank top and light sweater, I emerge from the house with the basket of goodies from the kitchen.

"Can't forget this" I state to my mates who are standing by the limo. Caleb looks at me and comes and takes the basket from my hands.

"No, we can't Good eye, baby:" He goes and places it in the back of

the car, as Vincent approaches me.

"I think we've gotten everything now. Are you ready?" I nod and

Vincent goes and opens the back door of the limo for me.

"We have a bit of a drive, so it might as well be in comfort" I smile.

"Can't disagree with you there" I climb in, followed by Vincent and then Caleb. They sit on either side of me. The car engine comes to life, and we pull away from Caleb's home.
