Chapter 273

Davyna's POV

I stand there, in complete shock of what this person just said I have a brother? He is my brother? I can see some resemblance, the

black hair, the grey eyes. My heart pounds as I stare at this strange but familiar presence. I feel Caleb and Vincent's emotions through our bonds. They are just as shocked as me. Vincent speaks first.

"You're her brother" He asks, the confusion in his tone clear.

The man nods.

"Yes. l am Davyna's older brother. My name is Declan." Upon hearing his name, my head hurts again. I rub my temples. Caleb

wraps his arm around me protectively.

"You okay, baby?" I nod.

"Just lingering pain, I'm okay" I feel incredibly weak, but I can't back down now. I need to know just who Declan is to me and why he has been watching me. How did I not even know he existed?

"It will only get worse, Davyna. You lack the proper training that allows you to harness your hybrid abilities without complications." Declan says softly

"If you think you can just waltz in here and shock her like this without answers..." Caleb starts, and Declan cuts him off.

"I will answer every single question I can. But right now, my sister needs to be attended to. We need to head to our village immediately." My eyes widen. The hybrid village? That is my home?

"That's not possible." Vincent states.

"We have obligations here, we can't just up and disappear. That would do much more harm than good if we left now"

Declan narrows his eyes.

"You would keep your mate in this state for the sake of appearances?" His tone changes to one of extreme disdain. Vincent growls in response.

"That is not what I am implying. Davyna is Butcher is to ever to come back here, we need to plan for our departure. The less shock it is to everyone here - majority the council- the better it will be for her and us upon our return." I feel incredibly unbalanced as I'm standing and Caleb grasps my arm to keep me from falling over. Caleb chimes in. "We can continue this conversation inside. She's weak and we will have more privacy to hash this out

Declan nods. "I agree. Lead the way."

Caleb picks me up in his arms, and I sigh as I rest against his chest. My body relaxes immediately, and the pain subsides to a dull throb as we make our way to our suite.

Once inside, Caleb places me on the couch and sits beside me. Vincent enters, followed by Declan, then Sage and Marcella. I lock eyes with Marcella and Sage, and tears immediately prick my eyes. "I'm so sorry!"

They both cross over to me and embrace me in a tight hug

"it's okay, you didn't know what you were doing. We're okay" Sage reassures me.

I sniffle.

"I didn't mean to..." She smooths my hair and hugs me.

"We know" Declan sits in one of the lounge chairs across from us and clears his throat

"Ask her your questions."

I blurt out.

"How do I not know of you?" He looks at me intently, pain evident in his eyes.

"You were too young to remember me. Any possible memories of me

were gone the moment you were made dormant." So l was made this way.

"Why was she made dormant?" Vincent questions next.

"There's a bit of back story to this. Okay.." He clears his throat and continues,

"Like turning tides of war" Caleb interjects and Declan nods. "That's only the tip of it. Anyways, usually when hybrids are born, they only have one form. Our hybrid form. The one with the silver eyes. We have abilities and traits from our vampire and wolf sides, but it varies. For example, some of us are able to shift into a wolf, some are not. It is completely random as to what we take from either of our sides."

Declan shifts in his chair as he continues, and I sense a great deal of discomfort coming off of him.

"I was 12 when Davyna was born. Immediately, she smelled different.

Like a hybrid, but not like any of us back home, something was off about her scent. Around a month old, her eyes shifted between vampire red and woven yellow and her hybrid silver. Never landing on just one. It was determined that she could access every single aspect of her vampire and wolf sides. Traits, abilities and even forms."

"She could isolate and choose which one she was." Vincent adds in, and Declan nods, confirming Vincent's observation. I lace my fingers together as I listen, feeling odd about hearing my story that I have no recollection of.

Declan continues.

"She was the only one in the village who could do this. Our family was so proud of her being such a strong being, but our elders had another train of thought completely. They were worried that she would be a huge risk and ordered her to be made dormant; locking

away her power since they had deemed her too hard to control, too

much of an unknown."

I gasp. "Family?" Declan nods at me.

"Mother and father miss you terribly, sister. I was given the task to watch over you when you left the village. I have always been here." My eyes widen as l realize where I recognized him from!

"You babysat me when I was 9.I thought you seemed familiar!" I say, the surprise of my revelation clearly evident. He nods and smiles.

"Yes. I inserted myself into your life with Klaire and Matthias. I babysat you until it became too risky, since I didn't age. Ultimately, Davyna was given to Klaire and Matthias at just over a month old. Her entire identity was sealed away, and to the regular person or supernatural, she would have looked, acted and smelled like any human."

"What is with the pain she is experiencing?" Marcella asks. Declan turns and replies to her.

"The pain is a result of the sheer amount of power she possesses. Her hybrid form came forward, but without the training that we all receive at the village to harness and use that power... she's a

ticking time bomb. Plus she is stronger then anyone else in the village, and that is why it is affecting her immensely."

Great. Still a freak of nature even in a hybrid village. I sigh and wince as my head throbs. I push past it and ask something that I'm not even sure I want to know the answer to.

"Were you there when... I pause, a lump forming in my throat.

"Were you there when Klaire was....killed?" My voice cracks on the last word and a tear runs down my cheek. I wipe it away and sniffle. Pain crosses his face once again.

"I was. I couldn't interfere, otherwise the vampire Elijah would have known of my presence as well. I couldn't risk being captured."

"His name... is Elijah?" I ask, my tone becoming hard.

"He is another reason why I have allowed you to continue on the path you're on. The initial plan was for you to live out your life as a human, not knowing of your true self. Elijah set plans in motion that no one could have predicted. The sheer anguish you felt over Klaire's death cracked the internal barrier keeping you dormant. I think back to that painful day and remember feeling something snapping inside of me."

"I felt it." I trail off.

"Where is Elijah now?" l lock eyes with Declan, fury vibrating through me.

"His location is unknown, but what I can tell you is that the disappearances and the situation that Caleb and Vincent ran into when they were at the parklands a while back... it's all connected. Our scouts have gathered information that leads us to believe he is experimenting"

Vincent snarls. "Experimenting with what?"

"l won't get into this now. As soon as we get to the village, you all can look over every piece of information we have and we can discuss it then. Now, you were saying something about obligations earlier?"

Caleb nods, but Marcella answers. "The coronation ball for these two," she points to Caleb and Vincent -

"is in a few days. Their attendance as well as Davyna's is expected." Declan leans back in his chair and his head falls back as he sighs loudly.

A few moments of silence pass and then he raises his head to look at me and speaks.

"l can keep Davyna stable until after the ball, but then we

have to leave."

Marcella clears her throat and looks between Caleb and Vincent. I feel myself start to fade, and I lean into Vincent as he wraps his arms around me.

"You all just got back from two weeks away, how are you going to

convince the council that you need to leave again?"

I see Caleb look back at Vincent, and I swear I saw a slight nod in

agreement of something.

"We've got it covered, don't worry" Caleb replies

"If you have it covered, then may l ask if there is a place I can stay until we leave?"

"You can crash in my suite." Sage says.

"No one aside from the people in this room have access."

"l appreciate that, Sage. I wanted to extend a large thank you for being such a good support for my sister in my families absence." Sage smiles at him,

"Not a problem."

I whimper as pain hits me again, but not as strong. Vincent holds me tighter, and Caleb rubs my legs in an attempt to soothe me "It hurts." Declan rises from his chair.

"May 12" He asks Caleb and he hesitates for a moment, but then moves so Declan can sit beside me.

"Come here, little sister." He instructs and Vincent releases his hold and Declan pulls me into him, cradling me in one arm,

"Take calm, slow breaths okay? I'm going to ease some of the pain. I'll do this everyday, morning and night to keep you stable enough until we go home." I nod, feeling a comfort I've never experienced. My own brother is soothing me, helping me when I'm hurt. My heart blooms with content.

Declan places his hand on my forehead and I feel intense warmth

coming from it, and a low hum in my mind.

"What's happening?" I ask.

"I'm putting up another barrier to keep you in control. It won't last end tell me when the pain returns.

Suddenly, I feel my strength coming back, the pain dissipating for the time being.

I blink my eyes a few times. "It's gone. The pain is gone."

"Sleep now." He says and everything goes black
