Chapter 56
Luara's POV
I began walking up the steps of the underground prison, happy to be away from the dark gloomy environment in the pack prison.
Making my way through the trees, I could hear the footsteps of Bryan trailing after me.
He quickly caught up and we silently walked back to the house both deep in our own thoughts.
I had many questions to ask, I wanted to know everything about what happened today plus we still needed to discuss our previous argument about birth control. And to be honest, it's a discussion that I'm dreading to have with him.
Bryan likes to believe that everything he does whether it's life-destroying or not, is justifiable. That he is able to do whatever he pleases and not have to apologize even when he's in the wrong.
I wondered what Bryan was going to do with Melinda and her mate. Bryan wasn't a forgiving person, and I may be his mate and his Luna, but he is the Alpha, and what he says goes and he always has the last word.
Once we made it to the house, Bryan opened the front door and gently placed his hand at the base of my spine guiding me to his office.
He guided me to his office even though I knew where I was but he still left his hand on my back, wanting to have some form of contact with me.
Even though I was furious with everything that had happened over the past week, I still missed him. I wanted to curse our mate bond and the need to be with him all the time, my wolf was forcing her emotions onto mine making it difficult to decipher if what I was feeling was from me or her.
Both having dominant Alpha genes didn't help either, our emotions are double the average wolf's.
The moment we got into his office, Bryan picked me up bridal style and carried me to his chair sitting me on his lap. He snaked his arm around my waist to keep me still and secure on his lap before he turned to open a drawer.
Grabbing a mobile from the drawer he dialed a number while I sat in silence, leaning my head on his shoulder as he put the phone to his ear waiting for the person to answer.
I could hear it ring a few times before the sound of Bryan's Beta Andrew's voice answered with a
"Hello?"
"Andrew? Why aren't you answering me through the mind link?" Bryan questioned in a demanding tone, clearly not appreciating his Beta ignoring him.
"Sorry, Alpha. I'm...um, slightly occupied at the moment." Andrew replied.
It was clear that he was talking about being in the company of an unmated wolf, maybe even a human.
"Well, I want you in my office in 30 minutes so make it quick." Bryan replied before cutting the phone off without even saying goodbye.
He chucked it onto his desk carelessly before turning his head to face me. "What happened this morning shouldn't have ever happened and I know I need to explain," His tone was serious and firm meaning that this conversation was going to be quick and direct.
"As I was telling you earlier, I've known Melinda for years since I was young. Her father was very close friends with mine and when I became a teenager they told us that once we both turned 18 and got our wolves we would mate. My father told me that Melinda was to be my Luna." Bryan had disgust riddled in his voice as he uttered the last sentence.
"Melinda has always had a crush on me and at one time we were close friends. I've used the nickname Mel since we were young and sometimes I still call her by it unintentionally. I know, it probably looked awful this morning when she opened the door in my shirt, but I promise you nothing happened, and deep down you know that. You would have felt the pain of me mating someone else."
His words sparked jealousy within me. I hated the idea of another female touching him, having the feeling of desire towards him. Bryan was my mate and my wolf and I were feeling more than possessive over him.
"She walked in on me in the shower. I don't know how she got into our home without me knowing but she did. My mind was in a completely different place. Anyway, she came here to try and sleep with me, she walked into our bathroom naked and I chucked my shirt at her. That's why she was wearing one of my shirts, I didn't want to sleep with her and I could smell the scent of another wolf being there before."
"But you were too angry to realize that she had slept with another man before she came round here and that the scent of sex was not from me."
After I sat in silence replaying everything that he had just said, analyzing every piece of information he had given me and Bryan sat there in silence allowing me time to think.
I was unsure about what to say to everything he had said. I didn't want to start an argument over something that I have now realized is minimal. I knew he wasn't lying because he was allowing me to read his thoughts and his emotions.
Melinda has always had a reputation for sleeping around, so I wasn't too surprised.
There were many more important things that we needed to discuss.
"I just want to forget everything that had happened earlier. What I really want to talk about is what happened last week." Bryan raised an eyebrow at me, waiting for me to continue. I could see in his eyes that this wasn't going to be an easy conversation.
"Deciding to have pups is a joint decision, we both have to agree. You can't try to force me to carry your children and you can't trick me into thinking that you're wearing protection when it has actually expired."
"It didn't work though, did it?" He shrugged.
I was taken aback by his cold answer and how carelessly he had regarded something that was so important and serious to me. His answer made my temper flare and I could slowly feel my blood boil.
I stood up, not wanting to be near him. Quickly moving to the other side of the desk before he could pull me back.
"What does it matter?" I repeated.
"Are you serious Bryan? You purposely tried to get me pregnant! You lied and pretended that you were wearing protection! Protection that had actually expired, and you knew it!" I shouted and pointed my finger accusingly at him.
He carelessly leaned back on his chair, while swiping his tongue across his teeth.
"You're not pregnant? It didn't work."
The more he spoke the more furious I got.
"How many pregnancy tests did you take? Are you sure you're not pregnant?" He kept asking questions, wanting quick answers. All the while, his tone was serious and demanding almost as if he didn't believe me when I told him I wasn't.
All the tests would tell him the truth which was all negative.
"I find it astounding that you think it's okay to do that to me, you couldn't give a damn about what you did and you even have the audacity to ask me questions while demanding answers."
"But I took enough to know I'm not." I added.
"You wouldn't mind taking another one then, would you." It sounded like a question, but it wasn't.
I laughed at the audacity of him not believing that I wasn't pregnant.
"You want me to prove to you that I'm not pregnant? Are you joking with me, Bryan? You need to prove to me that I can trust you, not the other way around."
"And I'm going on the pill." I stated. My tone was final.
He growled.
"Bryan, I don't know how many times I have to repeat myself. I'm not ready for a child yet." I felt myself beginning to become frustrated and aggravated with Bryan's persistence.
"Fine, I'll have to accept the fact that you're not ready for children yet and I will wait,"
I narrowed my eyes slightly at him, not sure whether to believe him or not.
"But I don't want you on the pill."
I rolled my eyes and was about to speak when a knock on the door sealed our conversation as Andrew walked through the door.
Andrew nodded at Bryan and he then looked at me and said "Luna" in respect for my rank title.
I decided to leave, allowing them to discuss the pack business in private as I wasn't interested in their conversation.
Deciding to completely ignore Bryan and his demands, I headed for the front door walking in the direction of the pack house.
I sent a message to Greg, the pack doctor and I requested he meet me in the infirmary but to keep our meeting secret.
I wasn't about to share my thoughts or my idea with Bryan, as he would disapprove and lose his temper with the situation especially if he found out I was meeting with his pack doctor.
The pack house was loud with boisterous teenagers fighting and shouting at the TV. Mated couples were occupying the couches and keeping watch as some young children raced around the house. I was hoping that nobody would take notice of me but that was clearly not going to happen.
"Luna, are you alright?" A pack member questioned as I walked through the maze of the mansion looking for the pack infirmary.
I stopped and looked up smiling at the wolf.
"Yes I'm fine, could you show me to the pack infirmary? I have forgotten where it is."
The man frowned deeply at me before assessing my whole body. He checked for any injuries as being his Alpha female meant that his wolf was guarded and protective of me.
Not wanting him to panic and call Bryan, I told him a lie.
"I'm fine, I heard my best friend was there and I wanted to make sure she was okay."
He nodded, seemingly believing me before directing me the way. I followed behind him in silence as he led me to the door of the pack infirmary.
"Thank you." I smiled before opening the door to the infirmary. I could hear the pack doctor's heartbeat pound in his chest as I walked towards him. He was clearly worried about why I was meeting him in secret.
He gestured for me to sit down and I did, I didn't want to waste time and wanted to get straight to the point.
"How can I help you, Luna?" Greg asked, a little nervously. Unhappy and worried that I told him not to mention our meeting to Bryan.
I felt a bit bad that I had ordered him not to tell Bryan, I wasn't surprised he was frightened as Bryan was a very ruthless Alpha and had no problem in twisting your neck causing your death.
"I want to go on the pill-" I began but before I could continue, the door of the infirmary was slammed open causing the whole building to shudder. The door rattled against the floor as it harshly fell off of its hinges, snapping into two.
Stood in the doorway was Bryan who was growling menacingly at me.
His eyes were hard and piercing into mine as he clenched his hands into tight fists. He was gripping them so tight that in the silence we could hear his fingers crack underneath his fists whilst he clenched and unclenched his jaw.
I sat there in shock as my mate punched a hole into the wall nearest to him. I jumped slightly and my heart began beating roughly against my chest as my dangerous and angry mate began stalking towards me with a dangerous look lurking in his eyes while fierce growls emitted from his chest.
