Chapter 250
Davyna's POV 35
Kassi was a normal girl lining in a normal to an until one day her
"How long until we get to Avern?" I ask Vincent as he starts the engine, the car roaring to life and begins to pull away from the front of the compound. I wave goodbye to Caleb quickly.
"It's about a 6 hour drive. We will make a few stops on the way there it needed."
"Okay, sounds good to me. Glad i packed a book then."i chuckle to
myself as I reach around into the backseat to grab my bag and pull out my book and my small flashlight I use for night reading. I place them in my lap and return my bag to the backseat, and then proceed to stare out the window, as we exit the large gates at the front of the compound and proceed on our little journey.
The ride is silent for the first little bit, as Vincent is focusing on driving and I've been too busy admiring the dark scenery outside. It's hard to believe that we're coming into Fall and I've been living at The Hollow for almost 5 months. So much has changed in such a short amount of time I look at the trees on the side of the road as we pass them, wishing it was more light out so I can see the colours that are starting to change.
It's still relatively warm outside, which should be really nice for these weeks with Vincent and Caleb.
I see Vincent adjust the rearview mirror from the corner of my eye and I look in his direction, deciding to steal a look at him while he's occupied with driving. My heart flutters as I take in the sight of him in his casual blue jeans and grey t-shirt. It's rare that he's actually wearing casual clothes, but he looks just as attractive no matter what he's wearing. His blond hair is down for once, flowing freely with from the wind coming through his slightly open window. God damn. I can never get enough of looking at him and Caleb. I'm definitely becoming more bold in my decisions when it comes to these two, and I'm finding it more and more difficult to not get so worked up around them. Or as Caleb said,
"aroused." I think back to how there are four outfits of lingerie in my bag, courtesy of Marcella. I blush a little.
"You keep staring like that, and I might just have to stop this car, love."
He says without even glancing my way. I inhale sharply at his remark. wasn't really incognito with my staring. Whoops.
"What made you decide to drive?" I ask, trying to deter from the clear sexual tension happening between us. "I got tired of Ruka driving me everywhere, and I wanted this trip to be just you and I.
"I'll If you need a break i can take over." I suggest to him and he smiles.
"love that you're thinking of my well-being love, but I'm sure I'll be good." He pauses.
"But if I do need one, I will be sure to let you know.!"
"You better. Don't push it." I say sternly.
"l will." He replies as he removes his right hand off the steering wheel and places it on my thigh, rubbing small circles with his thumb I place my hand over his and squeeze it tightly, feeling the ever so familiar warm tingles travel from my fingers all the way up my arm. I sigh in content and smile at the gesture.
He removes his hand and puts it back on the steering wheel and I decide to open up my book to read for a little bit, using my small flashlight to make it a bit easier.
"We're here." I jolt awake as I feel Vincent
"Huh?" I say sleepily. When did I fall asleep? hand on my shoulder.
Vincent laughs.
"We've arrived in Avern, love." I adjust myself and look
out the window. It's just starting to lighten up outside, the sun waking up from its slumber, and clearly I had the same idea. I see tons of houses lining the street we're currently driving on, all of them looking beautiful and pristine. I feel like I'm on a movie set or something. Every single house is perfectly preserved. Stepford housewife stuff. I don't see many people outside, but it must be to people outside, but it must be too early.
"Where are we staying?" l ask, followed by a large yawn.
"We are heading to my family's house, it's just outside the city. We should be there in about 10 minutes!"
"So you grew up here?" Vincent nods.
"Yes, this is my hometown, although I spent most of the time at my house and didn't venture too far past the town boundaries."
"Oh so you never rebelled?" I tease. He chuckles lightly.
"Oh l definitely did, once Caleb and I'll became good friends. He used to come by from the packlands, usually in wolf form. My parents only know some of what we got into when we were younger" I stifled laugh.
"It's hard to believe, you're so calm and collected most of the time.!"
"You haven't seen anything yet, love.!"
"Looking forward to seeing it." I reply quickly and I wink at him. I look out the window again and see us pull up to a large gate. It's similar to the one at The Hollow. It opens and we drive past and into the large area in front of the house. We pull into a parking spot off to the left and I get out of the car and stretch my legs.
My jaw drops as I take in the sight that is the "house." It's actually a large ctorian-like mansion. I see tons of beautiful greenery outside the front of it that lines the main front porch, with roses and other exotic like flowers blooming. The front porch of the house is encased in grey interlocking stone, that matches the colour of the shingles on the multiple heights of the roof. Looking past that, I notice the rest of the house is painted a dark navy blue, making a seamless blend with the stone, but keeping the stone the focal point. It's absolutely stunning.
There's a seemingly never-ending number of windows, and it is
ridiculously well preserved like the rest of the houses in Avern.
"Vincent, this isn't a house. This is a damn palace!" He laughs as he walks up beside me.
"l guess I can see how you came to that conclusion."
"You guess? This is like 5 times bigger then my old house!"
"Let's go in, the staff that I allowed to be here will grab our suitcases. I want to show you around." He takes my hand and I scoff loudly.
"My point. there's staffhere."
"Yes, yes I get it now Davyna." He chuckles as he pulls me along gently. We head up the main stairs of the porch, my jaw still pretty much at the floor as we enter. The entire interior has been completely modernized, with white and black accented marble floors and mahogany wood trim all over. I follow Vincent as he takes me up the black carpeted grand staircase in the middle of the foyer, and we head into a main hallway upstairs. At the end of the hallway on the right side, he opens a large set of double doors, which reveals a large master bedroom. There's a large canopy bed straight ahead of us, with a few dressers and armoires placed around on either side of the room. There's a door to the left of
the bed, which leads to what I can only assume as the master bathroom.
"This is where we will be staying. We can unpack later."
I try to hide my shock as I realize that we're staying in the same room, and the same bed?! Vincent has only ever slept in my bed back at the compound a handful of times and it was always over the covers. I fiddle with the hem of my shirt, trying to work past the nerves that have resurfaced for the time being.
I guess Vincent noticed my sudden quietness, and places himself in
front of me to get my attention. I look up at him, feigning a smile.
"Don't worry, love. There is no pressure for anything. I can even sleep in another room down the hall if you want. I scramble to collect my thoughts.
"N..no! Uh.. that's okay. I couldn't possibly ask you to do that. It's just a big change for me. Need to get used to it is all."
He pulls me into him, resting his chin on the top of my head. "Okay. You tell me" I know you'll love it in here" He opens them, and I gasp loudly. It's a huge library, with wall to wall shelves just stuffed with books. l inhale little and am immediately calmed by the familiar smell of printed books.
"This is amazing!" I exclaim as I walk further in. There is a designated reading area with lounge chairs on the farthest left side of the room, that allows you to view every single stocked bookshelf. I'm in heaven.
"This was my favourite room when I lived here."
"l can see why. It's stunning. I only wish I had a room like this!" I turn to him and see him smiling widely at my excitement. Suddenly, my stomach growls loudly.
"You hungry? Let's go down into the kitchen and get you something to eat." I tilt my head and smile.
"Okay, as long as we can come back up here later."
"Of course, love!" He smiles and reaches out for me, and I take his hand once again, heading out of the library and back down the main staircase again.
--
After eating, Vincent showed me around the rest of the mansion,
including the backyard which was lined with all the same flowers out front, with a winding path that leads to a gazebo near the back of the property. I made a mental note to make sure to read or do something out there. It was beautiful and shouldn't be ignored while I'm here It's starting to come into the evening and I'm currently snuggling with Vincent on one of the lounge chairs in the library, both of us reading and just taking time to get settled in. There's a knock and I look up.
"Vincent, all yours and Miss Blackmoon's belongings have been brought up into the master bedroom." Vincent looks towards the staff member and nods.
"Thank you, Erick, very much appreciated." He's gone as fast
as he arrived.
"Do you want to go unpack and get that done, love?" I nod.
"Sure, better now then later." I close my book and sit up. I feel Vincent's hand on my shoulder and I go to turn my head but I'm stopped by him placing his face into the crook of my neck from behind. I can feel his breath on me and I shiver slightly. He kisses my neck softly and I close my eyes, trying to keep a moan from escaping my lips.
"Vincent." I say breathlessly.
"Sorry, love. I know I'm teasing. You're just so tempting." Oh two can play at that game.
