Chapter 235
Davyna's POV
l jolt awake suddenly, having dreamt of mom. I sit up and hold my face in my hands, trying not to cry. I did enough of that last night. I feel a set of hands on my left shoulder and back, and turn to look to see Vincent giving me concerned look, his blond hair messy from sleep. He sits up slowly beside me.
"You okay?" He says in a low voice.
"I will be, just a bad dream." I reply as I try to compose myself.
"Here." He says as he shuffles to sit behind me, trying not to wake Caleb, who is still sound asleep. He begins to massage my neck and shoulders, the warm tingles of the mate bond helping to relieve the massive tension I've been holding.
"He's a pretty heavy sleeper, that werewolf." l look at Caleb and take in his sleeping figure. His left arm is over his eyes, his black wavy hair splayed out. I honestly don't know how he slept comfortably, considering he takes up so much space. Thankfully my bed seemed to be big enough. I might have to look into a bigger one if this is going to be a regular occurrence.
I feel myself relax into Vincent, and he stops giving me a massage and, wraps both his arms around me. I feel safe, content. It's still mind, blowing how my entire being changes when him or Caleb are around,me. I'm calmer, my anger levelling out. I forget to put my defenses up, as if my body, no my entire being knows I'm safe. I still don't know why I'm,able to feel this way, considering I'm human, but I'll take it Vincent and I stay like that for a while, just taking in the calmness and peaceful feeling. Caleb then stirs slightly, and I look owner as his squinted eyes catch my gaze. He smiles at me and sits up, yawning.
"Well look at you two. Vincent, can I have a second with our beautiful mate?" I feel a slight blush warm my cheeks at the compliment. Just as Caleb says that, a phone rings. Vincent says, "Perfect timing, that's my phone." He slides out from behind me and answers it, and walks out of the room.
As I'm watching him leave, Caleb pulls me over to him and wraps one
arm around me, laying is back against my headboard. "So how's it feel having both of us here, knowing what you know now?" I snuggle into him, placing my hand on his chest.
"It's taking a bit of getting used to, but it's not bad. I feel better when you're both around."
"We're here whenever you need us, Davyna. Don't forget that. I'm
hoping once we accept these bonds, that you might get the ability to mind-link us." I look up at him.
"Really? You think I'll be able to do that?"
"l don't know for sure, but I am hoping, Mainly just so I can tease you without anyone hearing." I smack his chest with my hand. He laughs as I tell him,
"Don't start with that, it's ember tell him, "Don't start with that, it's embarrassing." her is being around you.
We won't pressure you for anything. Only once you're comfortable. So communicate with us as best you can okay?" I nod and continue to
snuggle with him for a few more minutes until Vincent comes back into the room.
"Sorry to break this up, but that was my parents. The council needs us for something Caleb."
"Of course they do. Way to ruin a great moment" Vincent looks at me.
"We shouldn't be longer, will you be okay here?" I nod and reply. "Yeah, I'm still feeling pretty tired so Ill rest for a bit
longer. Uhm, take my key card off the side table by my door to get back in once you're done." Vincent nods in acknowledgement.
I look at Caleb as he gets up off my bed.
"Workout later maybe?" He smiles at me,
"It's a date." I blush a little as he leans down for a quick
kiss. Vincent makes his way over and kisses me as well. My head swoons a bit, and as soon as l hear my bedroom door close, them having both left, I pull the covers over my head and try to get some more rest. Is this seriously my life right now?
Vincent's POV
I didn't want to leave her, but apparently there's some urgent issue at hand. I filled Caleb in on what my parents told me, and we're on our way to the council chambers at this moment.
"Why weren't we told sooner of an attack?" Caleb questions, obviously trying to wrap his head around the council's decision making.
"l don't know. I'm sure they had their reasons, but it is concerning."
"Think that there might be other things they're not telling us?" Caleb questions again. I can't blame him. Our parents have always kept us in the know of the inner circle of the council and internal matters in our families. It doesn't make much sense for us to not be told immediately of this, considering it was an attack.
"Let's just keep an open mind for now, we still don't know the full extent of this." I state as we head into the main floor, towards the back of the compound. I tap my wrist on the keypad near the large doors that lead into the council's meeting chambers. Caleb follows behind me as the doors open. We walk down the main hallway in silence and enter the council chambers. It's one of the more important areas in the compound, and I really do admire the way the room is structured.
It's similar to a large courtroom, with the council members seats at the back of the room, that are elevated on a small platform. On each side of the room, there are assortments of seats, benches and tables that can be arranged for visitors who have any business with the council. This is one of the original areas first built in the compound. Stone walls, floors, almost castle like. Everything is modernized in terms of technology and the room being integrated into the rest of the compound, but the room itself is one of the strongest and toughest to access. The feel of the grey stone floor under my feet definitely brings up some brutal, past memories for me from back home.
The entire council's seating area is composed of dark hardwood,
surfaces that shine with the reflection of the crimson drapes that cover the window in the room. Caleb's is of course a crescent moon, and the newest insignia for the humans, a shadow outline of a face. There are only a few doors in this room. the main one we just came through, the door behind the council seats that they enter and exit from, and the door to the dungeons that is in the far back left side of the room with two guards on it at The room is bare at the moment as Caleb and I approach.
Caleb and I glance at the council members in their seats, our own
parents being a few of the pairs of eyes we meet with our own. We both kneel onto one knee, lower our heads, acknowledging them with
respect, and rise to look at them again.
"We were summoned?" l ask. My father speaks first. "Yes. There's been an attack on a werewolf pack to the east." Caleb and I look at each other and then my father continues.
"We did an initial investigation when the attack first occurred. It was made to seem like no one survived." I catch on quickly. "But you don't think that's the case do you?" I lock
eyes with my father and he nods.
"Correct. We will be sending you both to those pack lands immediately. We need you both to see if there is any reasoning behind this attack and if it's of any importance or threat to
this council or the compound itself."
"When do we leave?" Caleb asks and I completely understand why:
We're going to have to leave Davyna. My father responds,
"You leave at nightfall. There has been files delivered to your suites with all the details we know as of now. A team is already there, and will brief you again once you arrive.
"Understood, father." I reply. As Caleb and I go to leave, I hear someone clear their throat. Matthias. I turn to face him as he starts to speak
"Be sure to keep an eye out for any possible human casualties. Since we don't know exactly why this happened or who did it, we need to have as much information as possible to keep things as calm as we can. Panic, tempers and accusations are not going to do any good here. Keep us posted much as you can.!"
"Yes sir, Councilman Blackmoon. We will keep in touch." He nods at me, and Caleb and I turn around and head out. Once we're back in the living quarters, I grab Davyna's keycard out my back pocket and use it to get back into her suite. I place her key card back on the table near her door and Caleb follows me as ye enter her room again.
Davyna is sprawled out on her bed, breathing softly as she sleeps. We were gone not even half an hour, but last night must have taken a lot out of her. I turn to Caleb and speak softly, "I don't want to wake her, but I think we should spend some time with her before we leave." Caleb nods in agreement and he goes to the left side of the bed and sits down on the edge, watching her. I follow suit and sit on the right side.
I smooth her hair out of her face. "Davyna." Her eyes flutter a little and she opens them slightly. She then opens her eyes wide and shoots up into a sitting position shaking her head.
"I fell back asleep! Oh please tell me I wasn't snoring." I laugh. "No love, you weren't. You were sleeping peacefully. l adjust my position. We're sorry to wake you, but Caleb and I got an assignment from the council and have to leave tonight. But we wanted to see if you were up to spending some time with us today."
She looks at me with a slight saddened expression.
"You guys have to leave? How long will you be gone?"
"We don't know, hopefully not too long. We would rather be here with you, but we have responsibilities." She nods and replies with her head down slightly, looking at her blankets. "No, that's reasonable. I understand that. I definitely want to spend some time with you both today, then. Come here." She looks at both Caleb and I and then holds out her ams towards us. I smile and climb in beside her as Caleb does the same.
