Chapter 281
Davyna's POV
I huff and puff as I try to catch my breath. It's been a week now since I've been here, and I've finished my physical training, but now Diaz has me working on switching between my vampire, hybrid, and werewolf states without needing to pause, and it's exhausting. I've been at it for what feels like ages, and my frustration has been getting the best of me.
I can't say I'm disappointed, though. I feel stronger, I look stronger. I've built more muscle then I thought I ever could. I'm a lean, toned machine. Diaz says I am lethal, and he's not mistaken. I've taken down every challenge he has thrown at me physically. Between hand-to-hand and even with weapons, I am unbeaten with the other warriors.
These switches are becoming a pain in my ass though. My hybrid state is proving to be the most difficult. It's an insane amount of raw power and there has been moments where I have almost lost it completely. I've held on, but it scares me that I'm still close to losing it., even with all the. I keep Vincent and Caleb in my mind, using them as my motivation.
"Focus on what makes each of your states different.. that will help you change faster. You only should have to think about it for a split second and once you make the decision, it will happen quickly" Diaz states and it's hard not to roll my eyes. You're not built like me, buddy!
sigh
I think about what makes my vampire side different, and then I realize. It's the same differences that Vincent and Caleb have. Why didn't I come to this conclusion before?
Vampire: Sleek, sophisticated, calculated silent predator.
Werewolf: Loud, brash, brute strength, power with a primal nature.
It's what I have always noticed between them. How they are complete
opposites, but work well together. I have to apply that to myself, and then the hybrid side is a mix of both. Understandably why it's harder for me to control.
Okay, I can do this.
I lock eyes with Diaz and I see his expression change and he smirks.
"Ready?" I nod
"Vampire." Silent predator. I feel my eyes change and my fangs elongate, and I haven't broken eye contact.
"Good. Werewolf." Strong, unstoppable being. I crouch, still not breaking eye contact and feel that raw power course through me. My canines sharpen and a snarl rips from my throat. It's nothing like I have ever heard come from me before. It's deeper, resonating, and I see Diaz' eyes change to mirror mine.
He kneels. "There she is. Come at me. Dana."
Caleb's POV
I startle awake from my nap on the couch as Sage barrels in.
"Davyna is fighting in the main yard! We can go see her!!" Vincent comes into view, and I pretty much leap off the couch and we all rush outside and to the grounds in front of the training center. I see a lineup of warriors, some I recognize from the time we've been here, some I don't only see a set of training sticks at the moment though. Her hair is braided behind her back, and her stance is screaming she's ready fora fight.
A good crowd has appeared around the edges of the grounds, and
can't help but burst with pride. They are all here to see her. Their abandoned kin, back home and training with a vengeance.
"Look at her!" Marcella exclaims and I smile in admiration. She's clearly stronger. I can see she's put on more muscle. but now that I've actually put my eyes on her, I can feel the power emanating from her through our bond.
Vincent comes and stands next to me. "Well, then."
I chuckle. "I'm speechless. She's only a week in, and she's already
looking like this?"
"She's clearly been putting hard work in."
"Clearly" I narrow my eyes as four of the warriors break their line and approach her. They surround her, but she doesn't flinch. Suddenly, they all strike at the same time. Davyna leaps above them and launches herself over them with a front flip. She lands crouched, and when she looks up, I see her wolf eyes and she smirks at me.
A low growl comes from her chest as spins around just in time to block every single strike from each of the four warriors. They continue to spar, and I'm amazed by her endurance. She doesn't seem to falter, and I continue to look on. She knocks out two of the warriors and she turns again and I'll see her eyes have shifted again, now crimson.
"She switched quickly." Vincent states, clear admiration in his voice. I know this is something she struggled with. She needed to put a lot of focus into getting into one state, and it took more effort on her part to keep within it. Many times she's gone into her vampire state, and was out of it just as quickly.
I turn my attention back to her and it's not long before the first four are on the ground, out cold. The rest of the warriors sprint towards her and a deep snarl echoes around the grounds. One I haven't heard from her before. It has an odd feeling, like a command. Opinions are confirmed when the rest of the warriors kneel in front of her, and her eyes are now glowing silver, signaling she's now using her hybrid abilities.
"She just commanded them to stop attacking." I state in shock,
completely bewildered at what l just witnessed. She snarls again, and the warriors stand, looking like they've just come out a trance. Diaz, her trainer comes up and embraces her, patting her on the back as the crowd dissipates around us. What was that?
Declan appears nears us and smiles.
"She's come a long way, but this is only the physical part. Next she has to train her mind."
"ls she allowed to see us now?" lask, and he nods
"Yes. She is in control of her power. But to keep maintaining that
control, her mind has to be sound. She's dealt with a lot of trauma and internal pain. She's going to need you both to help her work through that."
"Caleb? Vincent?" I hear her beautiful voice and I turn to see her
approaching us. She sprints into my arms first and kisses me
me deeply. I hold her tightly to me, and when we break away, I stroke her cheek with my thumb.
"You were amazing, baby."
"Yes, great work love." Vincent says and she walks into his arms and kisses him as well.
"Thank you. I worked really hard."
