Chapter 100

Alice's mom wrecked her family, pitting her parents against each other and pushing her to the edge. And it was all because of Alice's mom; she should be the one to blame! But somehow, everyone saw Alice as the victim and Celeste as the villain.

She could've had a happy family, loving parents, and even Lucas's affection. But Alice snatched it all away! Even her feelings...

Celeste lay on the bed, crying her heart out, trying to let go of years of pent-up resentment and frustration.

After crying herself out, her voice was all raspy. She got up and dragged herself to the bathroom. Staring at her puffy eyes in the mirror, she forced a bitter smile.

She thought, 'See, this is what you get for fighting with Alice. She has everything. Lucas loves her, and David spoils her. And you? You’ve got nothing.'

When Alice woke up, she found David still beside her, the room dimly lit. She groggily reached for her phone to check the time, but David suddenly hugged her from behind. "Awake?"

Alice buried her face in David's chest and softly asked, "What time is it?"

David, with one arm around her, picked up the phone from the bedside table with the other hand, glanced at it, and put it back, gently saying, "It's still early. We have an hour before lunch at the Tudor Mansion."

Alice nodded. After a moment of silence, she suddenly lifted her head, her forehead against David's chin, looking at his prominent Adam's apple, squinting. "Why did you wake up before me?"

David chuckled, not answering right away. In her sleep, she was completely defenseless, either curled up in his arms like a kitten or rolling to the edge of the bed.

In his drowsiness, he felt her little foot somehow kick his private part, and he woke up. Although it didn't hurt, he couldn't fall asleep anymore.

David asked, "Are you hungry? Should I make something to eat?"

Hearing David say this, Alice indeed felt a bit hungry. "What can you make?"

"Sandwiches or pasta, which one do you want?" David asked, knowing the fridge was well-stocked thanks to the housekeeper's frequent replenishments.

"Sandwiches." Alice replied, worried that eating something heavier like pasta might ruin her appetite later.

"Wait a moment." David kissed her forehead, got out of bed, and walked to the kitchen.

Alice lay on his pillow, her legs wrapped around the blanket, staring at the doorway. Suddenly, she turned to look at the empty bed behind her, recalling the night when she shared the bed with David, feeling a mix of emotions.

David's bed was huge; she could roll around a bunch of times without falling off, let alone lying across it. The room was pretty bare, not like her room with its carpet, wall decorations, and pink bed net, all cozy and sweet.

Alice sat up cross-legged, wrapped in the blanket, and looked around the room. When David came back with the sandwiches, she immediately suggested, "David, let's decorate your room."

David was a bit surprised, walked over to the bedside, placed the sandwich on the nightstand, and then pulled Alice over to lean against him. Her face still had sleep marks, rosy and flushed.

David gently nuzzled her, asking with a smile, "Why the sudden idea?"

Alice dodged his hand and explained, "Don't you think this place is too empty? A big bed, but not much else. It doesn't feel like your personal space, more like a temporary spot."

Feeling a surge of dissatisfaction, Alice coldly glanced at David and said gloomily, "Don't tell me, your apartment with your ex-girlfriend is your real home."

"Don't be silly." David immediately said seriously, "I gave her the deed and the contract; that place was never my home, and even less so now. What are you thinking?"

Alice didn't want to admit her jealousy, so she wriggled out of David's embrace, crawled to the head of the bed, and started eating the sandwich. She glanced at David and beckoned him over with her finger.

David didn't move, raised an eyebrow, and smiled. "What do you mean?"

Alice threw another flirtatious glance at David and beckoned him again.

David moved to Alice's side. He was just about to ask her what was up, when he saw Alice holding the sandwich. She smiled as she brought it to his mouth. "You've been busy for a while. Here's a reward."

David, feeling a bit amused, gently wrapped his arm around Alice's waist, took a bite, and smiled. "Actually, I'm more looking forward to your cooking. Can you cook for me next time?"

"It depends on my mood." She wasn't always in the mood to cook.

Since David didn't make many sandwiches, they ate a little. After finishing their meal, they washed up and got dressed to head to the Tudor Mansion together.

As soon as they stepped into the living room, Alice saw two elderly men sitting face to face playing chess, with a chessboard between them. Lucas leaned back in his chair, looking disdainful. "Gavin, this isn't Go. It's chess. How can you play so badly?"

Gavin, his face red, threw the pieces back onto the board in a huff. "You practice with people at the nursing home all the time, of course, you're better. I fish every day; if you compete with me in fishing, I guarantee I'll win!"

Lucas snorted, "Brag all you want, I know your skills well enough."
