Chapter 77
The woman nodded, fully aware of the story about the illegitimate daughter. However, she was confused. Alice's mother had never tried to compete with Juniper for anything, and Alice only came to live with them after her mother passed away. Yet, Juniper acted as if Alice were a major threat, as if everyone were out to take her possessions.
Alice just shrugged. "Stepmoms and stepdaughters, they just naturally clash."
The woman was pretty ticked off at first when Alice barged in, but when she realized Alice wasn't going to spill the beans about her and Marcus, she started to warm up to her a bit.
She moved closer to Alice, her perfume lightly filling the air. She glanced at Alice's chest, then at her own, and thought to herself, "Yep, guys definitely go for the curvier ones."
"Marcus, she's really well-behaved," said the woman, who was named Anouk, one of Marcus's secretaries.
Marcus was head over heels for Anouk, even secretly buying her property. He'd often use the excuse of socializing to sneak off to her place. Anouk was super considerate; she never bothered him during work hours unless it was absolutely necessary. How could Marcus not fall for a woman who was both gorgeous and smart?
But when Anouk praised Alice for being obedient, Marcus couldn't help but smirk. Good thing Alice wasn't his responsibility; with all the chaos she caused, he would've had to punish her a million times over!
Anouk asked, "What do you need Marcus for?"
Alice glanced at the silent Marcus and grinned, "I had something, but now I don't."
Having their fun interrupted, Marcus and Anouk were already annoyed. Hearing Alice's words just made them angrier.
"If you have nothing, then get out! Are you skipping class again?" Marcus fumed. "Can't you just focus on your studies? Do you think getting into Ivywood University means you can slack off?"
Alice cracked the door open, turned back, and said softly, "Dad, I'm working with David now."
Marcus was stunned and didn't have time to ask more before Alice left.
With their clothes all messed up, they couldn't chase after her. Marcus thought about calling her, but Anouk clung to him, and his desire took over, making him forget the whole thing.
Alice went back to the hall, and Preston finally relaxed when he saw her. He asked, "Ms. Bailey, are we heading back to the Tudor Mansion or home?"
Alice was in a great mood, even humming a little tune as she got in the car. "Not home, back to the office. I'm feeling good and want to work overtime with David."
Alice returned, and David sat there quietly, watching her.
Alice closed the door, tossed her bag aside, and bounced over to David, whispering mysteriously, "I found out a secret. Wanna hear it?"
David pursed his lips and stayed silent.
Alice pretended not to notice and continued softly, "I just went to Paragon Industries Group."
As soon as she finished talking, David's head snapped up, his intense gaze locking onto Alice.
Alice froze, caught off guard by David's sudden serious expression.
David asked, "Who told you to go to Paragon Industries Group? What were you doing with Marcus?"
Alice pouted, trying to look innocent. "Hold on, just listen to me first! Can't you at least pretend to be interested? You're such a buzzkill!"
David took a deep breath, ignoring the "buzzkill" comment, and asked patiently, "Alright, what secret did you find out?"
Alice said, "Marcus is having an affair."
David raised an eyebrow, clearly surprised.
"A beautiful woman with a killer body," Alice gestured, then asked with a hint of jealousy, "Do all guys like that type?"
David quickly glanced at her figure and answered nonchalantly, "Depends on the guy."
Alice asked, "What?"
"For example, James likes that type. And Felix goes for mature yet innocent women."
"As for me..." David paused, his gaze lingering on Alice's face for a few seconds before continuing slowly, "I prefer the proactive type."
Alice and David locked eyes for a long moment before she suddenly smiled, like she just figured something out. "So you like dominant girls, huh? Never would've guessed, David, you're into that kind of thing."
David pressed his lips tightly, his face cold. Clearly, that wasn't what he meant.
Alice continued, "So you're secretly into girls who take charge, huh?"
"Alice," David suddenly interrupted.
Alice stopped talking and looked at him.
David said, "If I get angry, the consequences are severe. Do you dare to challenge me?"
At his words, Alice immediately shrank back into the sofa, not wanting to face the consequences of David's anger. She definitely didn't want to drink that oatmeal porridge again.
A week later, Alice was back on campus.
Oliver greeted her with concern, as did Declan. Faced with a mountain of assignments, Alice felt a headache coming on. Luckily, Esme was always by her side.
"Clara dropped out," Esme said, sipping her drink. "Her actions couldn't be hidden. Her parents personally brought her to withdraw. I don't know how the Tudor Family is handling it, but according to my mom's attitude, she's not too happy about it. I found out that Clara's actions weren't criminal, but that tattooed guy will definitely be sentenced. The Smith Family was forced to leave the country by Mr. Gavin Tudor and is not allowed to return."
Finishing her yogurt, Esme licked her lips and looked at Alice, who was buried in her books. Esme asked, "Are you satisfied with this outcome?"
Alice replied without looking up, "Does it matter if I'm satisfied? They're gone. If I'm not satisfied, should I ask Clara to come back and bother me?" She then glanced at Esme. "Besides, this has already implicated David. Now that it's settled, I don't want to pursue it further."
"Implicated David?" Esme recalled the cunning David and felt a surge of anger. "What happened to him?"
