Chapter 150
After the banquet ended, the guests seemed to tacitly leave behind the earlier awkwardness, smiling as they watched Alice make a wish and cut the cake, offering their blessings.
After seeing off the guests, Gavin and Lucas personally stood at the door, watching the last guest leave. The living room suddenly felt empty, the previously lively atmosphere turning cold and quiet in an instant.
Gavin sighed and sat on the sofa. The younger ones had gone upstairs, leaving only a few servants, Lucas, and the caregiver. This caregiver had been with Gavin's family for a long time, and he had long regarded him as family.
Not long after sitting down, Gavin couldn't sit still and grabbed Lucas's hand, "Have you really thought this through? We've kept this secret for so long, we could continue to keep it."
Hearing this, Lucas immediately pulled his hand back, glaring at Gavin, "Can we really keep it? It's been so many years, isn't that enough? Do you really plan to not let Alice return to her family?"
"That's not what I mean!" Gavin's face turned red, "I just can't bear it. If Alice goes back, she won't be able to marry David."
Compared to Gavin's unease, Lucas seemed much calmer. "That means David isn't capable enough to keep Alice. I don't think they should be together."
"Nonsense!" Gavin glared, "You were the one who insisted on finding a boyfriend for Alice and chose David. Now that Alice is going back to her real family, you say David isn't good enough for her?"
"Alright, I'll handle their side." Lucas didn't want to argue, and after a while, he spoke again, "I'll take care of this, but Alice might have a hard time in the next few days. Marcus will demand an explanation. How did I end up with such an ungrateful son like Marcus?"
Gavin patted his chest and promised, "If anything happens, just deal with it as you see fit. If he gets physical, I'll bring people over to help you. Even though we've been retired for so many years, we're still those old soldiers who fought for the country back then!"
"Alright, alright, I'll handle this myself."
the Bailey family.
As soon as Juniper entered the door, she angrily threw her bag on the ground and paced back and forth in the hall, her face dark.
"Look at Lucas's attitude! He raised Alice, an outsider, for twenty years, and he just brushed it off lightly? Without any explanation, could Alice really be his illegitimate daughter?"
"Shut up!" Marcus immediately got angry when he heard this, his eyes burning with rage, "Say that again?"
Juniper was stunned for a moment and didn't speak again, but her anger was evident. "Marcus, you need to give me an explanation for this, or I'll divorce you! I can't stay in this house anymore! First, Alice was your illegitimate daughter, and twenty years later, we find out Alice is an outsider! If this gets out, it will disgrace our entire family!"
As soon as she finished speaking, she saw Ophelia following Celeste in, and Juniper got even angrier, directly pushing her out. Ophelia, unprepared, fell to the ground.
"Get out! What right do you have to enter my house? Your mother is a whore, and you're no better! Get out!"
Before Ophelia could react, Juniper slammed the door shut with a "bang," and the sound of arguing came from inside, but the door never opened.
Ophelia sat dazed at the door, staring blankly at the closed door. After a long time, the light in her eyes gradually disappeared, and the door never opened for her.
After a while, Ophelia got up and walked away. In just a few hours, her fate had changed dramatically. She went from being a hardworking girl to an illegitimate daughter of a wealthy family, and then to being kicked out of the house. No one spoke up for her.
Esme mocked her for ruining Alice's birthday; Juniper hated her because her mother, Saskia, had ruined Juniper's family; even Lucas publicly refused to acknowledge her.
Ophelia walked to the side of the road, listening to the honking of cars, and suddenly felt her last bit of hope shatter. She stepped onto the curb and walked towards the road.
"Screech!" The piercing sound of a car horn got closer and closer. Ophelia closed her eyes, ready to embrace the pain, but at the last moment, someone pulled her back, causing her to fall to the ground. The burning pain in her palms made her open her eyes.
"Are you crazy?" Lila looked at Ophelia angrily, "I helped you, not for you to seek death! What happened?"
Hearing the familiar voice, Ophelia was in a daze. Seeing Lila, she finally couldn't hold back her tears and hugged her, crying.
Lila felt impatient, but for the sake of her plan, she comforted the distraught Ophelia and took her back to the hotel.
In the room, Lila poured Ophelia a cup of water, "Drink some hot water first, then we'll talk about everything else."
Ophelia, wrapped in a blanket, held the steaming cup with both hands, her face pale and her eyes red.
After a while, Lila glanced at Ophelia and asked, "What happened that made you want to commit suicide? You're not that kind of person. Tell me what's going on. I've always been by your side, remember?"
Ophelia was stunned for a moment and looked up at Lila.
Her voice was hoarse, "You've always been by my side?"
Lila nodded, "Yes! That's why I helped you find your family. Now that you've found them, why are you like this?"
Ophelia suddenly smiled, her vision blurred with tears, "They... they kicked me out of the house. No one helped me, no one stood by my side."
