Chapter 130

David figured out why his grandpa was pissed and grinned, "Gavin, watch your mouth next time, alright?"

Gavin was caught off guard and had to take a few deep breaths to chill out.

With Alice out of the picture for a moment, Gavin sidled up to David and whispered, "Tell me the truth, are you still secretly talking to your ex?"

David was taken aback by the mention of Lila and froze for a second.

Gavin noticed his reaction and thought he hit a nerve. He started to get antsy.

"You..." Gavin pointed a shaky finger at David, "What am I supposed to do with you? What's so special about that woman that you're still in touch with her? What's wrong with Alice? Didn't you say you wanted to be with Alice? Do you... do you really want both?"

Gavin looked down at his hands, full of regret.

If he had known, he would've grabbed Lucas's cane. At least then he'd have something to whack this idiot David with!

"I just didn't expect you to bring her up out of nowhere," David calmly explained to the fuming Gavin. "I returned everything that had to do with her and made things clear. What she thinks now, I don't know, but I know where I stand."

"Really?" Gavin eyed David with suspicion and a hint of sarcasm. "When you broke up, you were practically a zombie over a woman. I almost couldn't stand to call you my grandson!"

Gavin leaned against the wall and sat on the bench in the hallway, hands on his knees, sighing like he was lost in thought. He slowly said, "I don't know whether to thank that accident. It changed you, but at least you're not the same as before."

Then, Gavin suddenly laughed, "You know, back then I even thought, I'd rather you be like James, partying all day and switching girlfriends constantly; it's better than risking your life!"

David stood with his hands in his pockets, leaning against the wall, and chuckled, "But if I really became like that, I wouldn't be who I am now."

"True, my three grandsons, besides sharing the same last name, have almost nothing in common," Gavin sighed.

Felix was weighed down by a strong sense of responsibility. Since the car accident, David had changed a lot and could handle things on his own now; as for James, while he might not be exceptionally outstanding, he definitely led the most exciting life.

Gavin glanced at David and said lightly, "Treat Alice right, or don't blame me for coming after you!"

"Got it." How could he not treat Alice right? He wished he could have her by his side every moment to take care of her, afraid she might run into trouble or get hurt. Sometimes, he missed her even after just a few hours apart.

At dinner time, the caretaker, Robert, brought Lucas his meal. Then Gavin stood up and knocked on the door to enter the room. "Done talking? Come and eat." Gavin gave Robert a look, and he placed the dinner on the table, along with some medication to be taken after the meal.

Lucas noticed right away and frowned.

"Grandpa." Alice's voice suddenly came from behind.

That snapped him back to reality, and Lucas quickly responded, "Of course, I'll take! After half an hour of rest, I'll take the medicine!"

Someone nearby couldn't help but chuckle.

Lucas's face changed instantly, raising his cane and glaring at Gavin angrily, "What are you doing here? This isn't a hotel! It's a nursing home! If you want to stay with me, that's fine, but if you're not sincere, please leave and don't bother me!"

"Quite a temper you have." Gavin seemed pleased on the surface but couldn't help but nitpick, "Staying with you is fine, but I'm afraid you'll be tormented by me. There's a pond here, so I can fish. I also can enjoy the sun, and walk the dog here."

As he spoke, he deliberately glanced at Lucas, "In any case, you definitely won't have the chance to participate in these activities!"

Lucas's dinner was very simple and light. After eating, they chatted for a while. When Robert reminded him it was time for his medication, he had to reluctantly drink water and swallow the pills in front of everyone.

"Alright, you've been with me long enough; you should go rest." Lucas patted Alice's head and made a final promise, "I will definitely take my medicine on time in the next few days!"

Gavin added, "Don't worry, Alice. I'll have someone keep an eye on your grandpa, and if he skips his meds again, I'll let you know immediately!"

Lucas's eyebrows twitched a few times, and he finally squeezed out a sentence, "Alright, you're right!"

Alice's puzzled gaze lingered between the two old men for a moment before she softly said, "You two aren't teaming up against me, are you?" After all, they were old friends.

"Nonsense!" The two almost simultaneously refuted.

Gavin quickly stated, "Alice, believe me. I absolutely support you! He and I are not on the same side at all!"

"Who wants to be on the same side with you?" Lucas snorted disdainfully, then comforted Alice, "Alice, be good; trust me one more time, okay? It's just a cold, no need to make such a fuss. It makes me uncomfortable so I don't want to take the medicine... Besides, I have to attend your birthday party soon; I can't show up feeling unwell and ruin your mood!"

Alice hesitated for a moment and replied, "Well... this time, I'll believe you."

Lucas sat in his wheelchair, pushed by a nurse, and watched everyone leave from the nursing home entrance. As the electric gate slowly closed, a cool breeze brought a slight chill.

The attending doctor, who was ready to go home, suddenly noticed Lucas and his expression became serious.

Lucas stared at him for a long time before speaking sternly, "You talk too much!"

The doctor was momentarily speechless.

Lucas continued to warn seriously, "If you keep talking recklessly, you won't be working here anymore."
