Chapter 88

Alice was pacing around, covering her mouth and silently screaming with excitement. After a bit, she took a few deep breaths, jumped onto the bed, and rolled around like a giddy kitten.

Raising her hand, Alice stared at her palm. That touch, the slightly heaving abdomen with each breath, and the clearly visible abs were all pretty impressive. The feeling was even better than the look. Alice sighed and sprawled out on the bed.

David finished his shower, his robe hanging loosely off his shoulders, showing off his muscular chest and a hint of abs. He sat on the edge of the bed, drying his wet hair. Suddenly, he turned his head, his gaze landing on the other half of the bed. After a moment, a smile tugged at the corner of his mouth, and he looked away.

The next day, neither David nor Alice mentioned the previous night. He spread jam on a piece of bread and placed it on Alice's plate, then took the milk from the housekeeper and set it in front of her.

David said, "Drink up."

Alice never got what was so great about milk. She liked the sweet and sour taste of yogurt way more. She sneaked a glance at David, pouted, and reluctantly drank the milk.

Later at school, Alice told Esme about David insisting on her drinking milk. Esme stood in front of her with her arms crossed, snorted twice upon hearing it. She looked her up and down, finally stopping at her chest.

"Don't you get it? Guys think milk helps with... you know," Esme said, nodding towards Alice's chest. "It's just their way of trying to... enhance things."

Alice replied, "David wouldn't."

Esme gritted her teeth internally. What kind of spell did David cast on Alice to make her defend him like this? It was both enviable and annoying!

"David is still a guy, right? All guys have this common flaw. They want their women to have a good figure and feel good to the touch. And you..." Esme glanced at Alice's chest, which was rather modest. She didn't want to hurt her, so she stopped mid-sentence and just pouted.

Alice looked at Esme expressionlessly, and Esme guiltily looked away, subconsciously straightening her chest. In this regard, she was indeed better than Alice.

"Forget it, I don't care what you think." Alice thought Esme was just like those superficial men who only cared about a woman's appearance. Did qualities and inner beauty not matter at all? She hoped, in the future, men would only care about the outside and not the inside.

"If you don't like milk, just say so. Can David really force you?" Esme sat down next to Alice, propping her hands on the table. "If he insists, just turn against him!"

Alice took out a book and, hearing this, looked at Esme. "You seem quite excited."

Esme blinked and couldn't help but smile, shaking her head in denial. "No, I'm not excited. I'm just giving you some heartfelt advice."

Alice thought, 'Yeah, right. Your expression says otherwise.'

Midway through the class, Esme whispered in her ear, "When's your birthday?"

"Next month." Alice lowered her head, resting her left hand on her cheek and taking notes with her right. "What?"

"How are you planning to celebrate?" Esme asked.

Alice looked at Esme suspiciously. "What are you up to?"

"Just tell me!" Esme said.

"I'm going to the nursing home to stay with my grandpa." She had already agreed with David to spend her birthday at the nursing home with Lucas, keeping it simple and warm.

Esme almost forgot about this. She touched her nose and decided to drop the subject since Alice wanted to stay with Lucas. She had originally planned to take Alice out for her birthday, but thinking about Lucas being alone in the nursing home, she decided not to insist since it was Alice's wish.

Esme said, "Remember to call me when you go. I want to see Mr. Bailey too." If Isla knew she was going to see Lucas, she would definitely prepare some soup and food for her to take with.

"It's only a few days away," Esme continued after checking the calendar, "Is there anything you like? I'll get it for you."

Without looking up, Alice said, "You could find a boyfriend to keep you company. It would be the best birthday gift for me."

After school, the two walked side by side towards the school gate. Under the shade of a tree, a familiar car was already waiting.

Esme wished she could question David. Why was he keeping such a close eye on Alice? Was it wrong for them to have some fun together after school?

David made it clear through his actions that he wouldn't let Esme instill what he considered wrong ideas into Alice. Seeing them come out, he drove closer, rolled down the window, and called out to Alice, "Get in the car."
