Chapter 91

The sound of steady breathing filled the room as the screen slowly dimmed. David stared at Alice's sleeping face, gripping his phone tightly, his expression a mix of emotions.

After a while, he deleted the message, blocked the number, put his phone away, and wrapped his arms around her again.

"Good night," he whispered.

The next morning, David woke Alice up. She stretched lazily, clearly not wanting to get up.

David gave her a gentle pat on the butt and coaxed, "Come on, get up. Breakfast is ready. Get dressed, I'll take you to school."

Alice looked confused. "Didn't you say we were going home?"

"I changed my mind," David said, helping her fix her hair. "Now, get up."

After enjoying breakfast at the hotel, David drove her to Ivywood University. Once she was inside the campus, he headed to the villa to handle some paperwork. Later, he drove to the apartment.

The apartment manager recognized him right away. Seeing David get out of the car, he hurried over and said, "Mr. Tudor, a lady came by this morning claiming to be the owner of the apartment."

"I know," David replied with a smile. "Where is she?"

"She hasn't come down yet. She should be upstairs." the manager pointed.

David nodded and took the elevator up. As the elevator doors opened, he unexpectedly ran into Lila, who was about to come down.

Even after three years, Lila was still as stunning as ever, wearing a brown trench coat and black high heels, her wavy hair adding to her mature and intellectual look.

But David had changed so much that Lila could barely recognize him.

Dragging a suitcase beside her, Lila's eyes lit up when she saw David. "David!" Her eyes welled up, and she rushed to hug him. "I missed you. I'm back!"

Before Lila could say more, David gently pushed her away. He walked to the door, opened it, and said, "Come in."

Lila's face lit up with joy, and she followed him inside. Seeing the familiar decor, Lila covered her mouth in surprise. "Did you renovate this place? According to my old design?" She asked in disbelief. "Have you been living here all this time?"

David handed her a property document. "This is the apartment's title deed."

Lila looked stunned, staring at David in confusion. "What do you mean?"

"This apartment is yours," David said, placing the document on the table and keeping his distance. "I thought about your message last night. This was the house you chose back then. After we broke up, you threw away everything related to me, including this property."

Lila became anxious. "David, I came back for this! Listen to me. I didn't really want to break up back then. I had no choice! I had my reasons!"

"What reasons?" David asked.

"I..." Lila hesitated, then smiled bitterly. "I was sick. At that time, the treatment options here were limited. I didn't know if I could be cured abroad, and I didn't want to burden you, so I chose to break up."

She went on, "But now I'm better, completely recovered! I want to start over. This time, let's design our future home together!"

Facing Lila again, David was unusually calm, without any emotions, not even a trace of pain.

"David, are you still mad at me for breaking up back then?" Lila approached, holding his hand, "I know I hurt you, but now that I'm back. I can make it up to you with my whole life. Can we start over?"

She continued, "Look, when I left, this house wasn't renovated yet, but you finished it the way I liked. You still like...."

Before she could finish, David's phone rang. He pulled his hand back and answered the call.

Dylan's roar came through instantly, "David! Can you come and take Alice away? I'm about to send my brother to jail! Hurry up! I'll send you the location!"

Dylan angrily hung up, and the image of the domineering CEO collapsed in an instant.

Simon pouted, leaning on a round stool. "Dylan, Alice isn't as bad as you say."

Alice nodded, simultaneously questioning, "Why did you call David?"

Dylan put his hands on his hips, looking displeased. "Isn't David your guardian? If I don't call him, should I call Mr. Bailey?"

Alice was speechless.

Dylan rubbed his forehead in frustration. "Alright, what's the fuss about this time? If I hadn't passed by, would you head to the police station again?"

"I just wanted to get a custom cake for Alice's birthday, but I ran into these troublemakers." Simon pointed at the group of men, looking helpless.

"Alice's birthday is coming up, and I wanted to surprise her, but they started giving me trouble." Esme walked out of the cake shop, came up to Alice, bumped her shoulder, and asked with a mischievous smile, "Guess what I found out?"

Alice looked at her expressionlessly. "I don't want to guess because David will be here soon."

Esme snorted and pointed at the group. "Elodie sent them."

"They were each bribed with five thousand dollars, intending to teach you a lesson, but..." Esme snorted disdainfully, glancing at the few sitting by the window with contempt, "But with the money in hand and unable to find you, they had to trouble unfortunate Simon instead."

Simon was slightly stunned.

"Who's the unfortunate one?" Dylan was unhappy, crossing his arms and walking up to Esme, "Watch your words."

Esme gave a mischievous smile, shaking her head at Dylan. "Alright, what do you want?"

Dylan thought, 'Are college students this arrogant nowadays?'

Esme snorted. She didn't think much of David, and naturally, she didn't have a good impression of Dylan, who was David's friend. Anyone who could be friends with David couldn't have good taste.

Dylan didn't understand Esme's thoughts, only feeling that girls nowadays needed discipline, especially those like Alice.

After about twenty minutes, David arrived in a hurry.

After listening to Dylan's account, David looked at Alice, examining her from head to toe. Once he confirmed she was unharmed, he finally relaxed.

Seeing this, Dylan felt a surge of frustration and disappointment in his chest.
