Chapter 19

After hitting up the bar, Alice finally got why the dude on the phone sounded so desperate.

The floor was a mess of shattered glass. Tables and chairs were knocked over, and the place looked like a war zone. Not a single clean spot; everything was either covered in shards or soaked.

Simon was sprawled out on a sofa in a booth, with five or six empty liquor bottles on the table.

Alice picked up a bottle and checked it out, her eyes going wide. She kicked Simon's leg. "Simon, you really went all out. You bought a bottle worth thousands? Aren't you scared Dylan's gonna break your legs?"

Simon groaned, furrowing his brows, and slowly sat up, holding his head.

When he saw the mess and Alice standing there, he started to remember last night.

"What are you doing?" Alice asked, putting the bottle back on the table. She pulled out a hundred-dollar bill and handed it to the bartender who had been looking after Simon. "Hey, can you get me some hangover meds?"

"Sure thing!" The bartender took the money and disappeared through the back door.

The lighting in the hall was dim, and the booth was tucked in a corner.

Alice plopped down on the sofa, tilted her head, and stared at Simon.

Simon's scalp tingled under her gaze. He glanced at Alice, scratched his head, and said in a hoarse voice, "Just talk. Stop staring at me."

"Why'd you get wasted?" She wouldn't believe he wasn't drunk.

Given Simon's status and the fact that Dylan often did business in places like this, even if Simon trashed the bar, the owner wouldn't dare get mad, let alone ask for compensation.

Plus, Alice knew Simon wouldn't use his status to push people around, let alone buy several bottles worth thousands each. He'd rather hit up an arcade to vent his anger and grab a Coke.

"What do you mean? I was just in a bad mood." Simon straightened his clothes, put his feet on the ground, and avoided looking at Alice, his eyes darting around.

Alice burst out laughing. "Simon, do you think I just met you today?"

Hearing this, Simon felt even more irritated.

He didn't want to say it. Saying it might mean the end of their friendship, and he didn't want that.. But seeing her get into David's car made him angry. They had clearly made plans, so why did David's words break their agreement? He had been stood up by Alice before, but the situation was different then.

"I got dumped." Simon's sudden words left Alice stunned. Simon lowered his eyes, looking dejected.

"When did you start dating?" Alice exclaimed, her mouth wide open, "Why didn't I know about it?"

If Alice weren't the girl he had a crush on, he would have hit her with a bottle!

"There are a lot of things you don't know," Simon said.

"You can tell me!" Alice's eyes sparkled with curiosity as she sat next to Simon. "What's her name? How old is she? Is she pretty? Is she sweet and cute or fierce and independent? What's her figure like? Have you held hands? Kissed? Or have you already slept together?"

Simon quickly covered Alice's mouth, his face expressionless. "I said I got dumped. If I got dumped, it means it ended before it even started. You're really something. You stabbed my heart again and again. Are we still friends or not?"

Alice patted Simon's shoulder and then generously patted her own, "Come on, lean on me."

Simon glanced at her, and as soon as he slightly lifted his eyes, he saw Alice's neck. He immediately looked away, slapped her hand away, and stood up, putting on an angry look. "Forget it, I think you're just curious and want to hear my story. Dream on!"

Alice pouted.

Reeking of alcohol, Simon looked a bit unpleasant.

"Why are you still sitting there? Let's go, I need to go home and take a shower."
