Chapter 94
David took a bunch of showers, using up a ton of body wash, worried that any scent might still be on him. After rinsing off really well, he sniffed himself and only caught the fresh smell of the body wash.
But he'd heard that women, especially girlfriends, have a super sharp sense of smell, so he showered a few more times before finally stepping out of the bathroom, feeling satisfied.
As soon as David came out, he scooped up Alice, who was lounging on the bed, and leaned in, asking, "Come on, check if there's any perfume smell left."
Alice rolled her eyes. "I'm not a sniffer dog; how would I know?"
David laughed and guided Alice's hand to his abs. "Wanna touch?"
Alice glanced at his well-defined muscles, thought for a second, and didn't pull her hand away. She confidently felt his muscles, even lightly touching his chest, finding it surprisingly pleasant to touch, not rock-hard.
David felt a bit turned on by her touch, but he had just managed to calm her down and didn't want to rile her up again.
Garrett was right; letting Alice do something she enjoyed did help her cool down. He figured he should consider giving Garrett a raise for his brilliant idea.
"I only found out she was back last night," David thought for a moment and decided to come clean to Alice.
Alice was stunned and looked up at him.
David continued, "I deleted the text message and blocked her number. After dropping you off at school today, I didn't go to the office. I went straight to the apartment with the property deed, planning to return it to her."
That apartment had been picked out by Lila, and its decor was all her taste. After their breakup, he only went there occasionally. Since Alice moved in, he spent most of his time at the villa.
Back then, he was still figuring out how to coexist with Alice, who was seven years younger. To avoid awkwardness, he sometimes went to the apartment but only stayed in his own room.
"Aren't you moved at all?" Alice gestured with her fingers to indicate a small distance.
"First of all," David put Alice back on the bed and put on a robe, "if I still had feelings for Lila, I wouldn't like you and I wouldn't have confessed to you. I wouldn't have taken you to a hotel, letting you wear my shirt."
Alice thought, 'What a shameless guy!'
"I know what I should and shouldn't do. As long as I have someone in my heart, I won't get tangled up with other women," David said seriously. "But if I have no one in my heart, then any action I take towards someone I like can't be considered unfaithful."
Alice gazed at David, his eyes reflecting two tiny versions of herself. She bit her lip, nodded slightly, and leaned closer to David, wrapping her arms around his waist and resting her head on his shoulder. "You won't get back together with her, right?"
Before David could answer, Alice said dejectedly, "If you do, I don't have the confidence to win you back. I'm not that confident."
David helplessly ruffled Alice's hair, kissed her forehead, and softly reassured her, "Don't worry. I won't." After comforting Alice, David left her in the room and went to the study to handle some work.
He understood why Alice lacked security but didn't want to explain too much. He could only prove with his actions that he wouldn't leave, wouldn't get back with Lila, and wouldn't easily let go of Alice. He wouldn't repeat past mistakes. However, Lila's return couldn't be kept secret for long.
Gavin found out about Lila's return pretty quickly, thanks to Dylan. Within a day, the whole Tudor family knew. That day, Gavin, Seraphina, and even James, who was always out and about, showed up at David's door.
David was taken aback by the crowd outside.
Gavin's face was like thunder. "Where's Alice?"
David replied, "Upstairs."
Gavin snorted, stormed into the house, paced around the living room, and then checked the kitchen. He turned to Seraphina and said, "Seraphina, go check on Alice. James, search every room in the villa for any uninvited guests."
"Got it!" James rolled up his sleeves and marched upstairs, looking like he was ready to break down doors.
David couldn't help but laugh.
Gavin glared at him. "Laugh? You can still laugh!" If it weren't for Dylan tipping him off, he would have almost been outsmarted by that woman again!
Back then, David ended up in the hospital. Now that he had healed, had he forgotten the pain and wanted to start over? There was no such easy thing in this world!
David went to the kitchen to pour Gavin some water, but Gavin didn't even look at it and said, "I want coffee."
David patiently made some coffee, and only then did Gavin take it and ask, "Where's that Lila? Don't try to fool me; Dylan already told me. Lila came to see you, and Alice was there too."
At this point, Gavin was even more indignant. "Alice was there, and you had the nerve to flirt with your ex-girlfriend? Even if you don't love Alice, she's still your fiancée in name! Flirting with another woman in front of your fiancée, do you have any dignity?"
Gavin's words were harsh, leaving James dumbfounded, and Alice, who had just come out of the room, was covering her mouth to stifle a laugh, her cheeks quickly turning red.
"Don't go around saying you're my grandson. I'm someone who cares about dignity! And don't go see Lucas. If Lucas finds out, he'll be so mad that he'll jump out of his wheelchair to beat you up!" After saying that, Gavin quietly waited for David's explanation.
Time seemed to freeze. Minutes passed, and David remained silent. Gavin couldn't help but look up, raising an eyebrow. "Don't you have anything to share?"
David lightly pointed to the cup on the table. "Gavin, how about a sip of coffee first?"
After talking so much, Gavin was indeed parched. He snorted lightly, picked up the cup, thinking David was still considerate.
However, before he could take a sip, David's words hit like a thunderclap. "Alice and I are now a couple."
Gavin's throat tightened, his eyes widened, and the coffee sprayed out uncontrollably as he bent over and coughed violently.
David quickly stepped forward, gently patting his back in comfort.
Catching his breath, Gavin sprang up from the couch, cursing and slapping David's shoulder hard. "You bastard! Is it true? You and Alice. I mean... are you really together? Since when?"
"Just yesterday," David replied calmly.
Gavin squinted his eyes with a smile. "Such good news, and you're only telling me now! We must celebrate... yes, celebrate!" His loud voice echoed in the hallway, "Seraphina, James, Alice, come down. Tonight, we're going to a fancy restaurant to celebrate!"
Everyone looked at each other, full of confusion. They thought, 'This plot twist is happening way too fast!'
