Chapter 122
Alice took a couple of sips of juice, glanced over at Esme, who was belting out a tune next to her, and replied: [Not sure yet. How late are you working? Maybe I can bring you some late-night snacks.]
Meanwhile, David saw the message and a small smile crept onto his face. Just as he was about to reply, he heard a loud cough from above, like a warning.
Without looking up, he kept typing and said to Garrett, "Almost done."
Garrett looked at David, puzzled, thinking, 'Even work updates get interrupted by this!' He didn't get the whole being-in-love thing, but he wished David would be a bit more aware.
After David finished speaking, he put down his phone, folded his hands on the table, looked up, and smiled at Garrett, saying, "Go on."
Garrett glanced at his tablet, feeling his throat dry up, but he tried to speed up his explanation to David.
"Lastly, there are some things that need your approval." Garrett paused, turned around, and brought in four or five documents from outside, placing them on the table. He continued, "Because of our partnership with Paragon Industries Group, those partners want us to sign these to make sure there are no issues with the tripartite agreement."
David frowned slightly but then relaxed. He picked up the top document and started flipping through it, asking, “Are they in a rush for this?”
Garrett nodded and replied, "It'd be best to get it done before work starts tomorrow morning. That way, we can buy ourselves some time."
David lightly licked the inside of his lips, looking a bit annoyed.
"You weren't like this before you started dating," Garrett couldn't help but complain, "Back then, you were all about work. Even if other staff had left, you'd stay and work overtime until everything was done."
"You'll get it once you're in a relationship," David looked up at Garrett. "It's like being hooked on alcohol, cigarettes, or even gambling. Once you're in, it's hard to quit. I'm in that state now, and your reaction is like someone in rehab, waiting to see what I'll become."
Garrett was speechless.
Then, David instructed, “Make me a cup of coffee and get some desserts on my desk.”
Hearing this, Garrett's face turned grim, thinking, 'I hope I don't have to wait all day.'
"I'll go take her here later," David said seriously, "I don't feel comfortable leaving her alone at home."
Garrett wanted to say something but decided to keep quiet. He obediently went to the coffee room, made the coffee, brought it to the office, then went out to buy some desserts and placed them on the desk. Finally, he sat at his own desk, mechanically organizing documents.
The three of them sang until nine o'clock in the evening.
By this time, Esme had sung so many high-pitched songs that her throat was hoarse, and she could barely speak, let alone continue singing.
It was getting pretty late, and they figured it wouldn't be safe for Ophelia to go home too late. So they decided to call it a night. Esme called a car to take Ophelia home.
Just before getting in the car, Alice got a new message from David asking her to wait for him at the entrance of the entertainment venue. So Alice immediately stepped back out of the car.
Seeing this, Esme looked puzzled.
Alice put away her phone and explained while standing by the roadside, "David's coming to pick me up. Esme, you go ahead and take Ophelia home."
Esme got in the car and left without hesitation.
After watching the taxi disappear into the distance, Alice found a noticeable spot to stand, leaning against a lamppost, scrolling through her feed while waiting for David.
When the car appeared, David saw Alice squatting by the roadside, the light above her forming a faint halo around her, with a long shadow stretching behind her.
After parking the car, David got out and walked over.
Alice sensed David approaching and pouted in dissatisfaction as she glanced at the time on her phone. "You're really late. I've been waiting forever."
Since she had been squatting for a while, her calves were slightly numb. He reached out to help her up. Taking the opportunity, he gently wrapped her in his arms, using his coat to tightly envelop her, his palm resting on the back of her head in a tender gesture.
David explained, "Sorry, babe. The traffic was terrible, so I got here a bit late."
Alice nestled into his warm embrace to escape the night chill, her long hair flying messily in the wind, yet exuding a unique charm.
"Are you hungry?" David asked softly.
Alice nodded vigorously, looking up at David and asked, "Can we get something to eat first?"
David naturally had no objections, holding her as they walked to the parked car. He opened the door for her, let her in, closed the door, and quickly got in himself before asking, "So, what do you want to eat? Have you decided?"
