Chapter 125

James was about to get cozy with his girlfriend when his phone buzzed. He glanced at the message and shook his head with a smirk.

Scratching his head, James asked, "Babe, how do you hide the hickeys I leave on your neck?"

She grinned, "No need to hide them! I want everyone to see how much my boyfriend loves me."

James chuckled.

He texted David back: [Try a band-aid!]

David replied: [A band-aid's too small; it won't cover it!]

James was taken aback. A hickey so big a band-aid couldn't cover it? David must've really gone to town! James had no idea what to suggest. Frustrated, he tossed his phone on the couch and lay back in his black boxers.

His girlfriend, in a silky nightgown, straddled him and traced her red nails over his chest. "Honey, aren't we gonna have some fun?"

"Not in the mood," James said lazily. "Pour me a drink."

"Okay, just a sec," she replied.

James couldn't resist checking his phone again to see if David had messaged back. No luck.

Taking the wine his girlfriend handed him, James swirled it around while scrolling through his phone, looking for clues in David's messages and Alice's posts.

Maybe David had left too many hickeys on Alice, and she was mad. Or maybe David had messed up somehow and was trying to make it right. Either way, it was David's problem now.

James rolled his eyes, put down his phone, and hugged his girlfriend, enjoying the night view outside.

Meanwhile, David, still clueless, turned to the internet for help. After a while, he gave up, grabbed his phone, and knocked on Alice's door.

When she opened it, David walked in and hugged her. "Sorry, I couldn't find a solution."

Alice was stunned.

After a moment, David thought she was going to be mad. But then she started laughing, tears streaming down her face.

When she finally calmed down, David asked, "What's so funny?"

Alice, still giggling, said, "David, you're just too cute!"

David's face fell.

She turned off her game, pulled David to sit on the bed, and said seriously, "Since we're dating, stop treating me like a kid, okay?"

David frowned. "I don't think of you that way."

"You do!" Alice insisted. "You knew I was being unreasonable about the hickeys, but you still went along with it. That's treating me like a child."

David was speechless.

To him, making up for what Marcus never gave her was worth a little pampering. He could be both a brother and a lover to her.

Maybe she used to envy other families for their love and protection, but all she had was Lucas. Now that David knew all this, he just wanted to make up for everything she missed out on.

Sometimes, words just couldn't capture feelings. The longer they built up, the stronger they got. And with that, the need for those feelings to be returned grew too.

He hoped she'd lean on him more. Whether she acted spoiled or threw tantrums, it didn't matter. The most important thing was to give each other a little more love.

"I'm just scared that one day you won't be able to handle my temper and leave," David said, burying his head in Alice's neck. "By always indulging you, I make you feel like no one else can put up with your personality, so you won't leave easily."

It was his last relationship that made him uneasy.

Alice gently patted David's head, comforting him like he usually did for her. "Do you think I'll become the next Lila?"

That question stirred up all sorts of feelings in her heart.

"Not exactly," David explained. "I still don't fully understand if our breakup was because of me."

David and Lila's relationship wasn't particularly close, and they never had those intimate moments like kissing when they couldn't bear to part. He once said that he and Lila were more like friends with a deep connection rather than lovers.

David added, "And you're completely different from her, making me worry that treating you the same way will make you leave one day because you can't stand me."

He had already taken that step and couldn't go back.

Their completely different personalities often left him at a loss. If he didn't go with the flow, Alice might feel wronged and not know how to express it. But if he indulged her, she'd complain that he treated her like a child.

David, somewhat annoyed, gently bit Alice's neck.

She immediately yelped in pain and quickly pulled her neck back, complaining, "You just left a noticeable hickey, and now you're adding another one?"

Alice thought, 'Isn't this just asking for my classmates to laugh at me?'

"Then let's make a deal," Alice said, sitting cross-legged and leaning on his shoulder. "No matter what happens in the future, I won't leave you unless it's absolutely necessary. You can't blame me or do anything harmful to yourself if I really do that. You must come and find me, no matter what!"

David could only smile wryly, gently pinching Alice's cheek and saying softly, "Isn't that unreasonable? Why do I have to find you, and you can't come to me?"

Alice raised her chin proudly and replied, "If I could come to you, we wouldn't have separated in the first place. So, you must come and find me, and make me happy!"

"As you wish... my princess," David said, then leaned down to kiss Alice's lips.

Alice wrapped her arms around his neck and gave him a kiss.

The next day, Alice went to school with hickeys on her neck. During class, as the teacher saw the hickeys on Alice's back, his expression changed, and he pointed at them, whispering, "Cover them up!"

Alice looked puzzled. "Why? It's not something to be ashamed of."
