Chapter 128
Alice felt a sudden warmth in her ear. She covered it and took a step back. "Got it, Mr. Tudor!"
After a busy day, David's teasing lightened Alice's mood considerably.
After finishing the soup, David urged Alice to go upstairs to sleep. Alice gave David a meaningful glance, tidied up, and went upstairs.
Just as she reached the door, a hand suddenly wrapped around her from behind. David kissed her earnestly until they were both out of breath, then he released her, saying, "Goodnight, my dear."
After David went into the room, Alice still stood dazedly against the wall, thinking, 'Maybe the kiss makes me oxygen-deprived.'
Ever since being with David, he seemed to love her a little more each day. Whether it was a kiss or a hug, he silently expressed his feelings.
Looking at the room door, Alice smiled. "Goodnight, Mr. Tudor."
In the hotel room, Lila sat on the sofa with a pillow on her lap and a laptop on top of it, with a small lamp illuminating the room.
After looking at some information, she sneered. "So, she's just a shameful illegitimate child."
Alice's photo was displayed on the screen. Lila mocked, "Where does an illegitimate child get the nerve to compete with me? David, really, how could you replace me with such a lowly woman just because I'm not around?"
As she saw "Celeste" listed in the family members section, Lila was slightly stunned, then sent an email. She closed the laptop, stretched, and walked to the window, lightly placing her hand on the glass.
Lila muttered, "Alice, just you wait... David will definitely come back to me!"
A few days later, just when Alice thought Celeste would be quiet for a while, she heard a piercing horn as soon as she stepped out of the school gate.
Alice instinctively turned around and saw a bright red Ferrari parked by the roadside. The window slowly rolled down, revealing Celeste's exquisite yet cold face.
"Impressive." Esme's mouth twitched as she forced a smile, "I have to give your stepsister some credit. Such perseverance is truly admirable. If it were me, I wouldn't have the patience to keep bothering you."
Alice raised an eyebrow slightly and grabbed Esme's shoulder, "Shall we go together?"
Esme raised an eyebrow in response. "Sure, let's go together."
After all, they had taken risks and caused trouble together. Even without those experiences, Alice had once saved her life. Esme's mom didn't mind Alice's background and even encouraged Esme to spend more time with her, hoping she could bring Alice home for a sleepover. Clearly, Esme's mom already saw Alice as a second daughter.
Celeste gripped the steering wheel, her face darkening as she saw Alice and Esme walking side by side. She immediately mocked, "What? Afraid I'll deal with you, so you brought someone to take the fall?"
Alice shrugged, "Maybe... So, what do you want this time?"
Esme glanced at Alice but said nothing, silently noting this in her mind.
Celeste glanced at Esme, her tone icy. "I didn't plan to take you."
The scene of Esme embarrassing her in the restaurant was still vivid in her mind. She would never forget that humiliation! Only Alice would be friends with someone so uncultured. What a bunch of lowlifes!
Alice sneered. "I never planned to get in your car anyway."
Celeste gripped the steering wheel tightly, her face pale, clearly trying to control her anger.
"My time is precious. If you have nothing to say, I'll leave now and you can come to me when you have something to discuss." Alice turned to leave but suddenly remembered something. She turned back and said, "If you need me, just come to the school."
"Stop right there!" Seeing Alice really about to leave, Celeste couldn't care less and unbuckled her seatbelt, getting out of the car.
"I'm here to talk about family matters, not something others should hear. Come closer so I can explain." Celeste, afraid Alice wouldn't believe her, added, "This is the front gate of your school, with so many people around. I will do nothing to you."
Ever since Alice came to the Bailey family, Celeste hadn't had a single comfortable day. Everything related to Alice rendered her impatient and infuriated. She thought anything involving Alice was never good.
Hearing this, Alice hesitated for a moment, lightly patted Esme's shoulder, and walked up to Celeste, asking, "What's the matter?"
Celeste got straight to the point, "Grandpa Lucas is not well. This morning, Dad received information from the nursing home saying Grandpa Lucas is not cooperating with treatment and doesn't want to tell you the specifics."
"What?" Alice's face changed.
Celeste explained, "Don't think I'm lying. Mom and Dad have already gone to the nursing home to try to persuade Grandpa Lucas, but they haven't succeeded. So Dad sent me to find you to help convince Lucas to accept treatment. Otherwise, do you think I'd come to you? I wish I never had to see you!"
This sudden news caught Alice off guard.
In a panic, she quickly called the nursing home, and the nurse in charge answered.
"Are you Mr. Bailey's granddaughter? Your parents are here trying to persuade Mr. Bailey to follow the doctor's advice, but Mr. Bailey still seems resistant," the nurse said.
Although the nurse couldn't directly criticize Lucas, she implied that Lucas had been ignoring medical advice and didn't want the family to know.
As Celeste opened the back door and got in, she said, "Either you take a cab and follow, or you ride with me."
Looking at the car and then at Celeste's arrogant face, Alice finally frowned and got into the car from the other side.
Esme, witnessing everything, was stunned. Just as she was about to chase after them, Celeste had already started the car and sped away.
"Fuck! What's going on?" To Esme, it seemed like taking advantage of the situation! She immediately ran to the roadside, hailed a cab, and reluctantly called David to inform him of the sudden situation.
On the way to the nursing home, Alice knew the route well. After confirming it, she sent a text to David, informing him that she had to deal with the matter about Lucas and might be back late.
Meanwhile, shortly after hanging up with Esme, David received Alice's message.
He read it while walking to the room. Inside were not only himself but also Gavin, Marcus, and Juniper.
Lucas sat expressionless in a chair, with Marcus beside him, trying to persuade him, but Marcus couldn't change Lucas's attitude.
"Dad! Why are you being so stubborn? If you're not well, you should follow the doctor's orders!" Marcus was almost faint with anger, "It's not even surgery; you just need to take medicine on time. What's so unsatisfactory about that?"
