Chapter 16
Rumors about Alice at Ivywood University were like, everywhere, and now there was another one. And the title was "The Unspoken Stories of Ivywood University: Alice and David from the Tudor Family."
Today, with Simon showing up, there's a fresh one: "Ivywood University Alice Falls for a Prince and Secretly Keeps a Gigolo."
Alice couldn't ditch her morning class, so she showed up like a good student. She jotted down some important stuff, but mostly, she was like a zoo exhibit, with everyone pointing and whispering about her.
Judging by the buzz, there had to be a new post about her. She couldn't care less.
At lunch, Alice spotted David waiting by the cafeteria entrance. David asked, "Got time for lunch? I'll take you out."
"Huh?" Alice was puzzled. She was about to say she planned to eat with Simon in the cafeteria, but David had already grabbed her backpack and her wrist, leading her towards the school gate.
Alice glanced at David's hand, then at the back of his head, and jogged a few steps to keep up.
David tossed her backpack in the back seat, and Alice walked around to the passenger side.
David took her to some fancy restaurant where the staff wore uniforms. They got led to a table that was already reserved.
There was a glass vase with a single rose in the middle of the table.
Alice slowly moved her gaze from the rose to David, not saying a word.
The waiter brought the menu, and David gestured for the waiter to hand it to Alice.
Alice glanced at the menu and was floored by the prices. Hundred was the minimum unit, and ten thousand was the maximum unit. Way out of her league.
She looked up and sneaked a peek at David, only to get caught.
David asked, "What's wrong? Can't find anything you like?"
She was now seriously worried she might have to foot the bill.
Her tiny bit of pocket money—was it all gonna be blown because she was looking at her phone while walking?
Alice glanced at the waiter standing nearby, slowly raised the menu to cover her face, leaned forward, and whispered, "David, am I supposed to pay for this?"
"You don't need to pay." David seemed a bit annoyed.
With David's assurance, Alice felt free to order, though she still didn't know what David was up to.
The food came, and Alice focused on eating, not noticing David's several attempts to speak.
By the end of the meal, Alice was stuffed, but David was not happy.
"Are you full? I'll take you back to school," David asked.
On the way, David tried to speak several times but couldn't get the words out.
David's eyebrows furrowed, and he pursed his lips. "Are you mad? Because of the message I sent this morning."
"Huh?" Alice had no clue why David thought she was mad.
David gripped the steering wheel tightly. "You didn't reply to my message."
The car fell silent.
"David, have you had a girlfriend before?" Alice asked.
David was startled and immediately looked at Alice.
Alice was playing with her phone, her hair covering her face, but she continued, "When you texted your girlfriend, did she reply to every message? If she missed one, did you think she was mad?"
David pursed his lips tightly, pulled the car over, and looked at Alice with a dark expression. "Who told you I had a girlfriend?"
Alice put her phone in her pocket and looked directly at David. "I figured it out myself. The apartment you took me to last time was your home with your girlfriend. There was a pair of women's slippers by the door. The living room curtains were sky blue, and there was a vase on the table. Lots of things indicated that you had a girlfriend and you had progressed to living together."
David's expression was complicated.
He didn't answer Alice's question, and Alice continued, "David, not replying to a message doesn't mean someone is mad."
"Replying to a message is basic courtesy," David interrupted coldly, "If you don't reply, I can't tell if you're mad, busy, or unable to reply."
David's face showed obvious anger as he gripped the steering wheel tightly. His demeanor instantly became sharp. He was no longer a patient, earnest elder, but an angry wolf.
"Here is not far from your school. You can walk from here."
Alice wanted to explain, but seeing David's expression, she gave up, unbuckled the seatbelt, and got out of the car.
