Chapter 93

Even though Dylan didn't really care for Alice, hanging out with her was way better than being around Lila.

Thinking back to college, Lila had it all—great family, sweet looks, and she was named the prettiest girl on campus her freshman year. Naturally, she ended up with David, the hottest guy around. Everyone thought they were perfect together, like they could read each other's minds.

Dylan used to visit David a lot, which meant he saw Lila often too. But Lila's holier-than-thou attitude really bugged him. She never worried about David leaving her because she thought they were the ultimate power couple, both in looks and background. It was like she had David on a leash.

This really ticked Dylan off. David was his own person with his own thoughts, but Lila always made decisions for him without asking. If she wasn't David's girlfriend, Dylan would've put her in her place a long time ago!

"Lila, if I were you, I'd get lost," Dylan said coldly, glancing at David and Alice. "Is it fun to stick around and embarrass yourself? David's doing just fine without you."

Lila snorted softly, giving David a loving look just as Alice turned her head, and their eyes met.

Lila was convinced no one could take her place in David's heart. She thought she was the best match for him in every way and believed it with all her heart.

She figured David was just mad because he hadn't gotten over the pain of her leaving years ago. Once he cooled down, he'd realize she was the one who truly got him.

"Dylan, I don't know what you told David to make him so against me, but time will show my sincerity. Even if he hates me now, I'll make him forgive me and love me again." Lila gave David a long look and walked away.

Dylan clicked his tongue in frustration, his eyes blazing with anger. Seeing this, Simon, cowering to one side, shrank back even more.

"I'm not gonna hit you. Why are you so scared of me?" Dylan snapped.

Simon mumbled, "…I'm scared you'll yell at me."

Just then, Esme crossed her arms and walked up to David, snorting. "Your ex is back. What about Alice? She doesn't even have a proper place by your side. Is her kid gonna take your last name or what?"

David tightened his arm around Alice's waist, looked at Esme calmly, and said seriously, "Esme, you should get a boyfriend. I think Dylan would be a good match."

Dylan, hearing this, instantly shouted along with Esme, "David, are you nuts?"

After exchanging glances, they both threatened in unison, "What are you looking at? Want me to smack you?"

David, Alice, and Simon were all stunned.

Simon said, "Dylan, I don't want a sister-in-law younger than me."

Dylan and Esme yelled together, "Shut up!"

Feeling wronged, Simon started to cry softly.

Dylan was so mad he felt like his whole body was aching. It was like he was hitting middle age early, and he didn't even have a wife yet. David was already driving him nuts. If David were his brother, Dylan would probably be in the hospital on a ventilator by now.

Thinking about this, he suddenly found Simon kind of cute. With that thought, Dylan reached out and ruffled Simon's hair, a warm smile spreading across his face.

Simon's scalp tingled, cold sweat trickled down his back, and his teeth started chattering. Oh no, Dylan was really pissed.

Esme gritted her teeth, hands on her hips. "David, what's so wrong with me that I have to be paired with an old man?"

Esme added, "And Alice? She only ended up with you because of bad luck. You two have a seven-year age gap!"

David didn't care about Esme's reaction because he didn't want her to upset Alice. So, before Esme could finish, he put Alice in the car and drove off, leaving a stunned Esme behind.

In the car, Alice fastened her seatbelt, facing away from David and staring out the window.

David gripped the steering wheel, wanting to explain but not knowing where to start. Any explanation seemed pointless, especially after he had just confessed his feelings to her last night and almost crossed the line.

His ex-girlfriend showing up the next day, with her perfume still lingering on him, was just bad timing. David sighed inwardly, thinking of a solution all the way to the villa.

As soon as the car stopped, Alice unbuckled her seatbelt to get out, but David was quicker. He grabbed her wrist, pulled her back into the seat, unbuckled his own seatbelt, and leaned in to kiss her, gently and lingeringly. "It's not that I don't want to explain; I just don't know where to start. If you want to hear it, I can tell you everything, but we just started yesterday. I don't want it to end today."

Alice pressed her lips together without speaking, but her eyes were full of disbelief. She had pursued David for so long and finally got together with him. How could she break up because of an ex-girlfriend? Break up? Give that woman a chance? No way!

Alice narrowed her eyes slightly, wrapped her arms around David's neck, and leaned in to peck his lips. Then she wrinkled her nose and said in a sweet, childlike voice, "You better go take a shower. I don't like the smell of another girl's perfume."

David smiled indulgently, kissed her several more times, then turned to open the door, and they entered the house one after the other. David went into the bathroom, while Alice naturally sat cross-legged on his big bed, taking up the whole thing.

Alice found herself lost in daydreams. Her guardian, who had now become her boyfriend, brought a whole new set of thoughts and possibilities.

Did that mean she could skip classes and even go in and out of the police station freely? The thought made her chuckle inwardly, but she knew better than to act on such whims. Just imagining it, she thought the consequences might be worse than before.

Previously, as her guardian, he had certain boundaries and responsibilities. Now, as her boyfriend, the ways he could discipline her seemed endless. What if it was like that time in the hotel? Alice shook her head lightly, her cheeks unknowingly turning red.
