Chapter 79
David remembered what Alice had told him, sighed, and said softly, "She went to Paragon Industries Group to 'seek justice' for me."
Felix's eyes narrowed a bit, but before he could say anything, David continued, "But she ended up finding out Marcus was cheating, and she came back all excited to work overtime with me." Felix thought David seemed a bit proud of that.
Meanwhile, Alice was sipping on some juice. Seeing David and Felix deep in conversation, she didn't bother them and instead started munching on desserts at the table.
"Isn't that Alice?"
Alice looked up at the sound.
Elodie, dressed in a red dress, walked over. She grabbed a plate and started picking at the food with tongs. She said with a sneer, "Never thought the little girl who used to trail behind Celeste and me like a lost puppy would get so successful she doesn't even recognize her old friends anymore."
Alice, holding her juice, leaned on the table and raised an eyebrow. Her expression was innocent yet slightly mocking. "I don't think I ever considered you worth noticing, Elodie. Are you maybe overestimating yourself?"
Elodie suddenly threw the tongs onto the plate, sneering. "Alice, you're becoming more like your mother, a real piece of work! Your mother ruined Celeste's family, and now you're here to destroy Celeste's happiness and take what belongs to her. Celeste and I really underestimated you. We should have dealt with you sooner!"
She grinned, her words dripping with venom. "Anyway, besides Lucas protecting you, who from the Bailey family would like you? But it doesn't matter, once Lucas is out of the picture, getting rid of you will be as easy as squashing a bug!"
Alice's body stiffened slightly.
Elodie's smile grew wider, but in the next moment, it froze. Juice was poured over her head, dripping down her cheeks onto the floor. Elodie's eyes widened in disbelief as she screamed and slapped Alice's hand away, roaring, "Alice! You crazy woman! What are you doing!"
The surrounding guests were drawn by Elodie's screams. David heard the commotion and turned to see Alice, biting a straw, holding an empty cup, and looking coldly at the disheveled woman in the red dress opposite her.
Elodie was wiping at the juice on her dress, but it had already soaked into the fabric. The once bright dress looked mottled and unsightly.
"Alice, you bitch!" Elodie yelled.
Elodie's parents pushed through the crowd. Elodie's mother, Thalia Rivera, seeing her daughter's state, quickly took off her shawl and draped it over her, glaring at Alice. "Alice? What are you doing here? Do you have an invitation? How could someone like you get in here? Where are the organizers? What's going on? How can just anyone sneak in?"
"Are you saying Alice sneaked in?" David's cold voice suddenly rang out. He walked through the crowd and stood right beside Alice.
"David?" Thalia looked at David in surprise, then glanced at Alice, unable to believe they had any connection.
Elodie was fuming, both for Celeste and herself. She stepped forward, her eyes red, and said, "Mr. Tudor, didn't you see? Alice poured juice on me!"
"You had it coming," Alice said, dropping the straw and placing the empty cup on the table without a hint of remorse. "You talk too dirty. I just helped clean it up a bit, isn't that better?"
"Alice, you!" Elodie snapped.
"You cursed my grandfather to die from the start, so should I respond by saying I hope you..." Alice paused, glanced at Thalia, and smiled faintly without finishing her sentence. But the meaning was clear to both Thalia and Elodie.
Thalia was livid and started cursing, "You ill-mannered brat! Without a mother to teach you, you've disgraced Lucas completely! You want to curse me to die, don't you? I bet you killed your mother! Now you're here to harm Lucas! Lucas's poor health is all your fault, you wretched girl!"
Alice's expression turned icy, her eyes fixed coldly on Thalia. Before David could react, she grabbed the empty cup from the table and hurled it at Thalia.
"Alice!" David's eyes widened, reaching out to stop her, but it was too late. The cup hit Thalia, who instinctively blocked it with her arm in terror. The cup shattered on the ground. The banquet hall fell silent.
Thalia's eyes widened, her face filled with undisguised fear.
David pressed his lips tightly together, his gaze filled with displeasure.
"Alright, it's just some trivial matters," Felix stepped in to mediate, smiling but with a cold gaze. He looked at Elodie and asked with a smile, "How about you both apologize to each other?"
"She has to apologize first!" Elodie refused to back down.
Alice sneered, "Not happening."
Elodie said mockingly, "Mr. Tudor, you see, it's not that I don't want to apologize, but someone is unwilling to cooperate. What can I do? Besides, I was the one who got soaked with juice first, and my mom got hit by a cup. If my mom hadn't blocked it, who knows where that cup would have hit!"
Even if Elodie had disrespected Lucas first, so what? No one but she and Alice heard it. A one-sided accusation, as long as she didn't admit it, what could they do?
Felix smiled helplessly. "Then forget it, no need to apologize."
Elodie was stunned, then Felix said, "Ms. Jones should know the whole story. I won't force you to apologize, but Alice was indeed insulted, and because your mother cursed her first. So, how about you apologize on her behalf?"
Elodie's eyes widened and she asked, "Why should I?"
Felix smiled. "Many people heard your mother's words. She called Alice a wretched girl. If you don't believe me, you can ask the people around if they heard it too."
Everyone knew the Tudor Family was protecting Alice. Elodie still wanted to bargain and gain something from this, which was naive!
Elodie heard the murmurs around, her face turning red with anger as she glared at Alice. "Apologize? Never! I will never apologize to Alice in my life!" Elodie shook off Thalia's hand and stepped closer. "Go ahead and protect her. Let's see how long you can keep it up!"
