Chapter 83

"It's a thank-you gift," Alice corrected. "The people who used to bully her probably had Clara backing them up. Now that Clara's gone, she came to thank me."

Esme clapped her hands. "You really did a good deed."

Ophelia walked out of the school building, grabbed her bike from the rack, and was ready to head to her part-time job.

Without Clara, no one in the freshman class dared to challenge Alice directly. Alice had been in and out of the dean's office several times without facing any consequences, not to mention her relationship with David—no one dared to mess with her now.

The desserts were a token of gratitude for Alice's help and, secretly, a hope to befriend her, ensuring that she could spend the next four years of college more peacefully. Ophelia also thought of the man she had met at the restaurant, wondering if she would see him again.

"Ophelia, a finance major, excellent grades, a favorite student among the teachers. Besides her major courses, she audits other classes when she has time, and if she doesn't, she takes leave. She's shy and seems to have no friends," Esme read aloud from the message she received from her friend to Alice.

"I heard she's not well-off. She doesn't live on campus. She works part-time while studying, and lives in a cheap and unsafe rental," Esme said in surprise.

Alice took a deep breath and asked patiently, "Why are you looking into her?"

"I was just curious," Esme said, flipping her phone face down on the table. "She had no friends because of Clara. She bought cream puffs to thank you. Does she want to be friends with you?"

Before Alice could respond, Esme suddenly sat next to her, tightly hugging her arm and pressing her face against it, showing strong possessiveness. "No way! You're mine! No one can take you away!" Including David!

"Alright, alright, I'm yours," Alice said, patting Esme's hand. She tried to pull her hand away but was held tightly, so she had no choice but to continue her homework with one hand held.

Esme pouted, silently complaining that Alice was fickle, and it was all David's fault!

At lunchtime, Esme dragged Alice out to eat. "There's a new place nearby called Starry Sky Restaurant. I heard it's good," Esme suggested while scrolling through her phone. "Wanna try it? I think they have a discount today."

Alice laughed. "You're so rich. Shouldn't you be taking me to a fancy restaurant?"

Esme's mouth twitched. "I'm not like those girls." While other rich girls were obsessed with designer bags and jewelry, she had a passion for food. It moved her more than bags and accessories.

Alice said, "Let's go, Starry Sky Restaurant it is!"

When they arrived at the restaurant, they were greeted by none other than Ophelia. Ophelia was momentarily stunned to see them but quickly smiled. "Hello, how many people?"

"Two."

Ophelia led them to a cozy table for two and handed over the menus.

Starry Sky Restaurant was new, and even though the prices were a bit higher than other places, the new store discount made it pretty affordable.

Ophelia stole a glance at Alice, her eyes full of longing and conflict. Alice couldn't ignore it and asked directly, "What's on your mind?"

Ophelia blushed and shyly asked, "Did you like the cream puffs?"

"They were pretty good," Alice nodded. "Where'd you get them?"

Ophelia's lips curved into a smile. "I made them myself. I'm glad you liked them!"

Alice was surprised. "You made them yourself?"

Ophelia nodded. "I work at a bakery. To thank you, I learned from the baker. It was my first try, and I thought they might not be good."

Esme held up the menu to cover her lower face and silently mouthed, "They were a bit too sweet!"

After Ophelia left, Esme rested her chin in her hands. "I think she really wants to be friends with you."

Alice responded indifferently, "I know."

Esme thought, 'Isn't one David enough? Now there's another rival? Why does everyone want to take Alice from me?'

The food at Starry Sky Restaurant was just Esme's style. Alice leaned back lazily in her chair, engrossed in something on her phone, while Esme noticed that Alice barely touched her utensils, and she ended up eating most of the food. Feeling a bit embarrassed, she piled some food onto Alice's plate while she was distracted by her phone.

The search box showed: [Which bug could bite the collarbone and leave red spots?]

The first reply: [It could be a skin disease or a food allergy. Better see a doctor. Don't self-medicate.]

The second reply: [Mosquitoes? Or some other bug.]

The third reply: [Mosquitoes don't bite collarbones! It's definitely a hickey!]

Alice raised an eyebrow and asked the third commenter.

Alice: [How can you tell if it's a mosquito bite or a hickey?]

Instantly, the third commenter replied: [Search for images with the keyword "hickey," and you'll see that modern guys don't spare the collarbone! Also, my boyfriend loves kissing my collarbone, saying it's a sign of love. It's fine in winter, but in summer, I can't cover it up!]

Alice couldn't resist searching for hickey images. They varied in size and depth, and some looked quite similar to the marks on her neck. So, if it was a hickey, who gave it to her? David? Alice chuckled softly, put down her phone, and started eating.

Meanwhile, David, who was fully focused on his work, suddenly sneezed. Garrett, who was reporting to him, asked with concern, "Mr. Tudor, do you need me to get you some medicine?"

David smiled and shook his head. "No need. Do I have any schedule tonight?"
