Chapter 99
A few days ago, they had just made it official, and she was already wearing his shirt! How was that slow?
David watched Alice closely, finally leaning back against the headboard, his collar a bit loose, showing off a hint of his firm chest.
He squinted, slightly parted his lips, and said, "In every way, it's slow. If I asked you to kiss me right now, would you?"
Alice was caught off guard and didn't answer right away.
David chuckled, wrapped his arms around her waist, and said, "See, you don't dare."
Alice asked, "Why does that matter?"
"It matters a lot." David sighed, lowered his head, buried his face in her neck, and said slowly, "I can't wait. Who can handle such a slow pace? I want to kiss you now, hold you while we sleep, and even go further. Do you get it?"
Alice's face got hotter as she leaned on David's shoulder. It wasn't her fault; he was her first love. Even though she had given advice to others before, she had no real experience. Facing someone she had secretly loved for years, she naturally wanted to be more reserved, right? Maybe David liked girls who took the initiative?
"How about this?" Alice gently pushed David, picked up her phone again, not daring to look at him, and waved her phone. "What about that uniform?"
David's eyes darkened, his voice a bit hoarse. "Uniform?"
"Yeah." Alice nodded, "Since we need to take it slow. Let's start with this."
David's Adam's apple bobbed as he swallowed, squinting his eyes, and said firmly, "Alright, but once the clothes arrive, no backing out or playing coy. Got it?"
Alice pouted in dissatisfaction. Men were such fickle creatures!
After placing the order, David waited for the delivery. He remembered seeing similar outfits on his roommate's computer back in college. He was curious at the time, as all guys had those moments. They even talked about their ideal girlfriends.
He couldn't remember the details, but he clearly remembered that he had no feelings for those images, and he was even questioned about whether he was normal.
Later, when he was with Lila, although they hugged and held hands, he didn't feel fulfilled inside.
David looked at Alice, her ears red, her profile tinged with shyness. She was seemingly a bit unconvinced, sitting in his lap with her legs together on the bed, playing on her phone intently.
Even so, without her saying a word, he couldn't help but want to get closer to her. Something inside him seemed to be surging, making him unable to control himself. This feeling was new and intense, even that kiss. Alice probably didn't know that it was his first kiss too.
David sighed quietly, propped himself up, and gently stroked Alice's head. "How about taking a nap?"
Alice looked at him puzzled. "Don't you work today?"
"Not today," David said firmly, pulling her down to lie beside him, covering them both with the blanket, head to head. "I'm a bit tired and just want to sleep holding you like this."
Alice's heart melted at his words. She put her phone away, snuggled closer, and wrapped her arms around his waist. "Then let's sleep."
David's lips curled into a smile as he slowly closed his eyes.
Love, at its core, was about mutual dependence, regardless of age, status, or experience, just because of love.
Meanwhile, Juniper yanked Celeste into the car, slamming the door shut with a hint of anger. Her face was grim as she sternly questioned, "Do you know what you just did? Haven't I told you over and over to keep quiet and stay silent? Why do you never listen to me?"
Celeste smirked, her tone mocking, "Mom, you always tell me to endure, to endure, but endurance has its limits, just like you couldn't endure Dad's betrayal back then. Can you keep enduring?"
"I..." Juniper was stunned.
"You can't, which is why Alice could become the second daughter of the Bailey Family and take everything that should have been mine!" Celeste angrily threw her bag onto the seat, her face twisted, her eyes filled with extreme pain and madness.
Celeste shouted, "If you could have endured back then, if that were the case, she wouldn't have intruded into our lives, and we would have nothing to do with her! But because of your impulsiveness, I've ended up like this! It's all your fault, your fault!"
Juniper looked at Celeste in disbelief, all the blame directed at herself.
"Do you think everything is my fault?" Juniper suppressed her anger, almost gritting her teeth as she said, "If I had chosen to endure back then, do you think your father would have stayed with me me? Would he have let that mistress out of our home? Would you still be the proud eldest daughter of the Bailey Family? Would you still enjoy a wealthy life?"
Juniper fastened her seatbelt, started the car, rolled down the window to let the breeze in, and said heavily, "I endured your father's betrayal for you, endured all kinds of injustices. I sacrificed so much for you, and this is how you repay me!"
After venting her emotions, Celeste gradually calmed down. Listening to Juniper's words, she felt a mix of emotions. She pursed her lips, not knowing how to argue, and silently fastened her seatbelt.
After dropping Celeste off at home, Juniper left quietly without mentioning where she was going.
Celeste returned to her room in a daze, sat on the edge of the bed, and eventually couldn't hold back her inner grievances, her tears falling silently.
She felt an unprecedented sense of defeat, both the humiliation at the party and Juniper's words deeply hurt her. She wondered, 'Why does everyone prefer Alice?'
