Chapter 121

"Of course I have," Esme said, looking a bit confused. "Did you think everyone was like you, single until you just got your first boyfriend?"

Alice kept gossiping, "So, what exactly went down before the breakup?"

Across from them, Ophelia quietly ate, but listening carefully.

When it came to her ex, Esme's memory was already hazy; she couldn't even remember his name. As Alice brought it up, only bad memories came flooding back.

"It was just one of those things," Esme said calmly, sipping her juice. She let out a couple of cold laughs. "As for my ex, he thought polygamy was the way to go. He cheated and didn't even think he was wrong."

Esme added, "He said men in ancient times were like that, so why can't modern men do the same? He believed he could marry multiple wives. I couldn't stand it, so I dumped him."

"Serves him right!" Alice said with disdain.

"Exactly!" Ophelia nodded in agreement.

"That's why I hate guys who are vague and don't express their feelings clearly," Esme said with a smile, thinking of David. But now that David had found his way back, as long as he treated Alice well, she could reluctantly accept it.

"I think Mr. Tudor is a good guy," Ophelia said cautiously, glancing at Alice and lowering her eyes to hide her emotions. "I'm really jealous you found such a great boyfriend."

'Is he really that great?' Alice silently asked herself. He was indeed awesome, but sometimes his demeanor was unmatched. She had been so blind before, not seeing through his other side, fooled by his cold and self-controlled image.

"My family's situation isn't so good and I don't know if I'll ever find a boyfriend," Ophelia said with a bitter smile, shaking her head.

"It's okay," Esme said, patting her chest. "I'll introduce you to someone. I have lots of friends. You can give it a try and you might find your Mr. Right."

Ophelia shook her head repeatedly, refusing. "I'm busy with my studies and part-time jobs, so I don't have time for a relationship."

Ophelia glanced at Alice in front of her, then looked down at herself, closing her lips tightly. A sense of inferiority surged up, along with a strong feeling of unwillingness and resentment. If she hadn't been adopted by her current family, maybe her parents would have been a young, wealthy couple, and she would have been a child from a privileged background.

As night fell, the streets started to come alive.

When they walked out of the restaurant, Lila and her friend had already taken off.

"So, what's the plan now?" Alice asked Esme and Ophelia.

"I don't have to work tonight," Ophelia replied.

Esme thought for a moment and suggested, "How about karaoke? Or maybe a movie?"

"Karaoke," Ophelia nodded. "I'm down for that."

Esme was a bit worried that Ophelia might still have some lingering issues, but since she seemed okay, Esme felt relieved. She called to book a private room and bought a bunch of snacks to bring along.

The three of them settled into a fancy private room, which was decorated warmly and comfortably like a living room. The sofa was piled with snacks, and the fridge was stocked with drinks, creating a chill and relaxed vibe.

The room was pretty spacious for just three people, but Esme didn't mind. She was enjoying the time with her two friends in a room that could fit over twenty people.

Esme, wearing disposable gloves, nibbled on some food while picking songs. Without turning her head, she asked, “What do you guys want to sing? Just name it, and I'll queue it up.”

"Anything," Alice said lazily.

"Yeah, anything's fine," Ophelia echoed.

Esme rolled her eyes and kept picking songs from the popular list.

Alice opened the fridge, grabbed a bottle of alcohol, checked the alcohol content, frowned, and put it back. She then took out a few bottles of chilled juice and three straws.

The sofa in the private room was huge, enough for the three of them to lie down comfortably. They sat shoulder to shoulder in front of the screen, with dynamic music filling the room. Esme picked a bunch of popular songs, holding one microphone herself and handing another to Ophelia. She noticed Alice was engrossed in a phone conversation, sipping on a cup of chilled fruit juice with no intention of joining the singing.

Esme didn't care who she was chatting with!

Actually, Alice was texting David, sending him her location and a photo of the fancy private room to show she was just hanging out with friends.

Alice felt a bit helpless. How many fights could there really be in this world? Not everyone was like Clara, eager to experience being hit.

David: [When are you planning to come back? I'll pick you up.]
