Chapter 140

Alice glanced down and responded to James with a blank expression, "You might not know, David seems to really like kissing there."

James was speechless, thinking, 'Why do I need to know this?'

So, the two fell into silence again.

They walked a few more laps, and the puppy was already too tired to move, sitting on the ground with its tongue out, looking at them eagerly. The puppy was still young, and its four short legs had to take several steps to keep up with one of theirs. After a few laps, its exercise was already several times theirs.

James suggested, "Let's take a break."

They moved to a shady spot, one standing coolly while the other squatted with their chin in their hand, looking utterly annoyed.

Alice didn't understand why she was out walking so many laps with James in the heat, barely saying a word the whole time.

The puppy, however, didn't understand any of this. Once it had rested enough, it started nudging James's pants, eventually using his shoe as a pillow.

James held back his anger, "If it weren't for the fact that this is the neighbor's dog, I would have kicked it away by now."

To break the awkwardness, he randomly picked a topic. "Hey, what do you want for your birthday? Given our history of racing together, I'll get you something."

Alice forced a smile. "Well, thank you very much."

James replied, "You're welcome."

Another silence ensued.

James irritably scratched his head and said self-deprecatingly, "Why did I agree to take you out shopping?"

Alice felt the same. "Why did I come out with you instead of staying home and sleeping?"

Before long, James stood up with the puppy. "Fuck! This is annoying! Let's go back!"

On the way, James suddenly said, "On your birthday, there might be a lot of friends who have worked with the Tudor family for years. If you mind, you can tell Grandpa. But I know Marcus will definitely want to make a big scene to satisfy his vanity."

He was right. Although James hadn't interacted much with Marcus, he knew him well. To Marcus, it was all about using Alice to enhance his status and gain recognition.

"Do you think Marcus will listen to me?" Alice asked, fixing her wind-tousled hair. Then she countered herself, "If he did, he wouldn't be Marcus."

She had already anticipated that Marcus would use her birthday for something, but with two elders present, he couldn't cause much trouble.

Back at the Tudor Mansion, Seraphina was picking out invitations. Seeing Alice come in, she called her over to help choose the colors. Then Alice suggested, "Why don't we use cream-colored invitations with gold edges? It's both understated and luxurious."

Seraphina clapped her hands in approval and started designing.

James, who had changed clothes, was scolded by Seraphina, "Dressed so flamboyantly, where are you going on a date?"

James helplessly replied, "Can't I just go out for some fresh air?"

Seraphina gave him a look, "You get this restless after just a few days at home?"

James drove his sports car to a bar and felt better after a drink of strong liquor.

He didn't expect to run into Lila and Ophelia on the street. Lila approached him, "James, you see me and don't even say hi? You used to be so enthusiastic."

Ophelia looked up in surprise, thinking, 'James? Could it be...'
